open.
Who: Slaine Troyard
adept and you.
What: -1 goddess
When: March 18th
Where: Library at Elsa's School
Warnings: Angst.
[When Slaine couldn't locate Dal Dal, that had been concerning, but it wasn't the first time. As it got later, he tried looking for her only to find that he couldn't. Nowhere he looked and nowhere he tried gave him any indication of where she was...that is, until he finds his kitten batting a crumpled piece of paper around.
And, once he does...
Well. Maybe it's fortunate that he's by himself, because it feels like his insides twist into knots. His throat feels tight, his eyes burn, and in the end he just sits there crying for a time. The note's a half-smudged mess by the time all's said and done, and he doesn't know where to go - or what to do. He's not even sure who he should ask about something like this.
If she's gone, what then? Does he get reassigned - is he already reassigned?
Eventually though, he makes his way to the library in Elsa's school, hoping the red around his eyes isn't as noticeable to anybody else as it is to him. He takes up a seat in the corner as he usually does, and simply buries his face in a book, hoping it's easier not to worry about what happens next if he's focused on something...though that doesn't seem to work as the page in front of him blurs and he winds up wiping his face with his sleeve]
[ooc: Rolling with Dal Dal having left him a note as per her drop message. At this point he's figured out she must be gone but hasn't woken up in his new god's temple. Good stuff? Good stuff]

[His concerns seem further away when discussing matters like this, a part of him acknowledges that even without focusing on it. There's nothing he can do about the absence of his goddess, but there might be something to understand about their situation.
Possibility over futility]

[Hakkai smiles encouragingly at the younger man, and takes another sip of his tea. It's cooled enough to drink.]
Why not try it? We might learn something.
no subject
[He can only speculate, pausing to take another sip of his tea]
Though you're right, there's only one way to know.
no subject
[At least Slaine isn't crying anymore, Hakkai thinks. Having a goal, even if it's a banal one about information gathering, does help.]
no subject
[Or...when they came from, if Hakkai's theory is correct]
no subject
[Ah, perhaps that's not a good subject to bring up just now.]
no subject
But he focuses on the question that comes to mind, rather than the baggage that accompanies it]
...Does that mean you think some gods knew their shinki before all this?
no subject
[Hakkai looks over at the man, shaking his head.] I don't know how much, but Killua told me his god seems to know much more about him than he knows about himself.
I don't know why.
no subject
[Slaine remembers Killua from his first day acting as a shinki. Even if they haven't spoken or seen one another since, he has a distinct recollection of the boy who tested others by seeing what he could get past them - from their plates]
Dal Dal, she...she always seemed to worry about me. Almost insistently.
[He doesn't know what that says about how much she knew, but...]
I could never understand what cause I'd given her to be so concerned.
no subject
[Hakkai smiles wryly at his tea.]
Elsa seems rather worried about me, too, sometimes. It may simply be that they feel responsible for us.
no subject
[He doesn't know the individual personally, and hasn't heard their voice, but the statement was fairly pointed]
no subject
[Hakkai's uncomfortable, at his age, with being someone else's responsibility. But then there are shinki like Goku, who does very much need to be taken care of....
At least he can try not to be a burdensome responsibility. And, perhaps, take care of his goddess in return.]
no subject
[Slaine felt that he and Dal Dal looked after one another in different ways, for the brief time in which he'd known her.
As for his next god...who was to say? But he hopes he won't trouble them]
no subject
[Hakkai glances up, compassion flickering over his face.]
Hopefully, your next god is a good one.
no subject
[Not just for that thought.
He holds up his half-finished cup of tea, briefly, to indicate he means for all of this]
no subject
[Hakkai smiles, just a little, looking down at his own cup.]
Please feel free to stay here tonight, if you'd rather wait to find your new god in the morning.
no subject
...Is there something I could do to help out then, in the meantime?
no subject
[They don't particularly need anything done, Hakkai thinks, but -- well, he knows himself that sometimes the hardest thing about being emotionally distressed is trying to find a way to stop thinking long enough to sleep.
He can probably set Slaine to sweeping the courtyard, or organizing the library, if he needs to tire himself out.]
no subject
[He thinks, at least, that it'd be better to be able to do something in return. It's kind of Hakkai to offer to let him stick around until he knows where he's supposed to be, but he'd just be taking up space if he didn't try to help.
Hopefully, there's something that could use a hand or two around here]
no subject
[He finishes his tea, and gets up to take the mug to the sink and rinse the pot.]
I'll show you where we keep the unshelved ones.
no subject
[And in the interests of not delaying, he finishes his tea quickly and gets up to follow. He should clean up after himself too, after Hakkai so kindly made the tea in the first place]
I've gotten good use out of the books here.
no subject
[In a tone of absent puzzlement, as if at himself, Hakkai adds:] I ... like having people here to read them.
While you're doing that, I'll get a room ready for you. Ah -- it'll be the third on the left past the library.
no subject
[It's an interesting tone Hakkai had just then, something he'll ponder when he's putting books away. Maybe it's something he's learned about himself, from experience here]
The room sounds easy to find.
no subject
[He smiles, and bows slightly to Slaine as he pauses at the door of the library.]
Thank you for the help.
no subject
Please- it's the least I can do. You've both done a great deal for me.
[Elsa always pointed out useful books for his studies, even arranged for supplies... All things she didn't need to do. And here Hakkai was, taking time out of his day on his behalf again]
