With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

NOTE: Please report any wishes your characters answers to the first comment on this post along with a link to where the wish is answered. There will be small bonuses awarded for answered wishes.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

Stalls

[ It's been so long since Yona's gotten to attend a festival that she almost can't recall the last time. And the ones she'd been to had been nothing like this. After having lent a helping hand to Orihime beforehand, she arrives at today's festivities in a brand new outfit gifted to her by the goddess. It's a gift she treasures and will be careful of throughout the entire event.

But the festival itself is something of a fascination for her and she'll wander among the stalls and games, sampling food and browsing wares and pretty much drinking in the sights and sounds and experiences to be found here. She's got the wide-eyed awe of a person who's never seen such a celebration before and, in a way, she hasn't - not quite like this. It's obvious she's enjoying every moment of it from the bright smile on her face and laughter that seems to come so easily.

Feel free to bump into her as she explores or notice her when something new and strange has caught her eye or as she ponders which food to try next (or what, for that matter, it might actually be.) ]

Wishes

[ The tradition of writing down a wish or a prayer on the brightly-colored slips of paper pull at Yona and she spends some time browsing them, reading to see if there are any that catch her eye or that she might easily be able to fulfil, since she is here as a goddess.

But when she thinks no one is watching her, she might take a slip of paper of her own and scribble down a prayer to tuck it amongst the others, even though she's not sure there's any god here who could answer it for her.

The paper, tucked in amongst hundreds of others, simply reads: Please keep my loved ones who are far away safe. ]

The Bridge

[ While Yona hadn't come to the Bridge with any intention of crossing it herself, she can still be found lurking nearby a little before the appointed time when Orihime is supposed to cross to finally reunite with her lover. Having met the goddess herself, she feels far more invested in seeing this particular meeting play out and she lingers nearby in anticipation, hoping that nothing spoils the long-awaited reunion for the other goddess who had put so much work into everything here. ]

[Tsuna is also at the stalls. There's a lot of food he's familiar with back home, but there are also new variants he hasn't seen at home. He notices that Yona is eying one of the weird combinations. This particular stand has the usual taiyaki with standard filings: red bean paste, custard or chocolate. However it seems that stand is taking a step forward with taiyaki ice cream. It looks really tasty and interesting!]

T-that looks really good! I would never think to put ice cream inside.

[ Yona has been eyeing them herself with considerable curiosity, although the simple descriptions weren't clearing up much for her either. When someone slips up beside her to exclaim over them, she glances over, questioning. ]

What is ice cream? Is it good? [ She's going to assume yes, considering how excited he seems. ]

You've never had ice cream? [Tsuna is surprised, but this world is somewhat different from his own. Maybe there are people who's never had such a delicious treat. All the more reason to encourage Yona to try some.]

It's really good! It's soft, cold, sweet and creamy. Believe me, it makes more sense when you eat it.

Do you want to try one?

[He's getting more food for his currently missing companion.]

[ She startles a little at the offer, glancing up at the man beside her....

And then she stops short and outright stares because the resemblance is downright eerie. ]

Ahh! You are...?

[Her reaction has Izumo look at her curiously.

Did he startle her?]

I'm Izumo Kusanagi. I apologize for startling you.

[ There's a difference between being a bodyguard that keeps you save, a stalker, and someone that's overbearingly protective. Totally. Which is why Shizuo made that promise, but knew better than to follow Yona to every single place, and figured that it'd be healthier for them both if he let his God find things out and meet people on her own.

He was able to give some information about these types of festivals before they went to this one. Shizuo even accompanied her to a couple of the stalls to get started before he excused himself to get an idea of what was happening. Ever since he came back from a walk earlier that day, finding out about the dead bodies, maybe part of his mind wanted to patrol around to make sure nothing was glaringly suspicious or dangerous.

It's been a good while, meaning about half an hour or so, before Shizuo comes back with a small plate of bright yellow blobs covered in powder. Knowing how much the guy could eat, it was no surprise that there were a couple of pointedly blank spots on the plate. ]

Here, you wanna try some of this? I dunno if they have mochi where you come from, but this has ice cream inside it. Ah, it's yuzu flavored. It's pretty good in summer.

[ Or. Anytime really. The word he wanted was refreshing, not good. ]

[ She perks up when he reappears at her side, smiling up at him brightly when he offers her a plate of... ]

Mochi? [ She echoes him while eyeing the little balls curiously. Willing to try just about anything here - since almost all of it had been interesting and delicious so far - she reaches out to carefully pluck one up and carefully take a bite. Then her eyes go wide in delight and she hums in approval. ] This is amazing! No wonder there is so much of this ice cream here. It's wonderful!

[ So far, it's been her favorite discovery when it comes to the food of this world. Although Zeno's chocolate had been a close second. ]

[ The best part about mochi ice cream is that each serving is self-contained. Sure, they'll melt inside and get mushy, but it's a mess that stays together. It's really heartening to see Yona so happy about the snack.

Don't worry Yona, you've got a sweet tooth master at your side. ]

Yeah, they use it in a bunch of things. Remind me to take you and get milkshakes sometime.

[If there's anyone who Yona might benefit from talking to about what foods to try, it's probably the guy who just got a small box of takoyaki... and is tucking it into a bag that already seems to be bulging.]

[Listen. He has a family to feed, or something.]

[There's a polite nod to Yona as he steps away from the stall, but he doesn't seem to be really paying her any mind much.]

[ She hadn't realized who was in line in front of her until he turned around and nodded to her and then she gives a small start of surprised recognition. ]

Oh, it's you! Hello.

[He actually pauses, like he'd forgotten what greetings were.]

....Hey. [#NailedIt] I guess most people did come to this festival...

Bridge

[Forrest is waiting by the bridge for a different reason, but he's not too preoccupied to offer Yona a smile as he sees her approaching.]

It's very romantic, isn't it?

[ At the sight of Forrest there, she gives him a bright smile in greeting as she approaches and pauses beside him. ]

It is! This tale of Orihime is new to me, but I hope she can meet her loved one. [ She casts a wistful glance at the bridge, where everything is ready and waiting for the couple. ] She is looking forward to it so much.

Wishes

[ It seemed a little unfair for gods and shinki to write down wishes, didn't it? And admittedly, Lux isn't sure what to do with this, really. So instead, she's settled on reading a few herself, seeing if maybe there was something she could manage.

Yes, it felt a little nosy, but at the same time, wasn't that their job? To make sure that these wishes (they were a little like prayers) were answered? Still...

"I hope he notices me."

"Please let me get into Tokyo University."

"I want to get married."

How was she supposed to help with that?

Seeing a familiar face, however, Lux blinks a few times, offering Yona a wave as—wait, was she tying a wish onto a bit of bamboo? Her expression softens, the older girl smiling warmly. ]

I didn't realize that gods had wishes like this as well.

[ Yona gives a small start before glancing over at the other girl, expression softening when she recognizes Lux. Giving a soft laugh, she turns to face her, hands clasped loosely in front of her. ]

Is it so surprising? That gods might have something they hope for as well?

Bridge

[declamando]

It's a fascinating legend, isn't it?

[Maria's voice is very soft as she steps up alongside Yona, as if making an effort not to disturb the meeting in any way. Her main focus is on the spot where the reunion is meant to happen, but after a moment, she turns her head to Yona and smiles a little.]

I think we might be a bit early, though.

[ Yona returns the smile with a warm one of her own, hands clasped loosely in front of her as she tears her eyes away from the bridge to greet the other young woman at her side. ]

It truly is. I've only just learned of it, but Orihime was very kind. I hope everything tonight goes well for her. She's worked so hard in anticipation of tonight.

I don't mind waiting. [ She confesses with a self-conscious laugh. ] I wanted to make sure not to miss any of it.

[He's a bit in awe. She's... well, she's pretty cute, right? Bright red hair, she's something else. There's something about the color red that makes him happy. He's not sure why... But she seems so interested in the food stalls, and he wants to get to know her a bit better.]

Ah, are you trying to pick?

[He's got a light red tint to his face. Not from blushing. But he's definitely stable enough to have a nice conversation with someone.]

The takoyaki is really good!

[ She looks surprised when a voice speaks from beside her, but then turns rather sheepish as she smiles at him. ]

I am! I'm afraid I don't know very much about these foods. We have nothing like them where I come from. Which one is the takoyaki?

[Seeing Yona by the bridge and the way she's looking at it, Yato can't help but be interested in having a little conversation with her.

Unfortunately, he's all about grand entrances. So she'll find him next to her, holding out a business card and winking.]

The Great Yato-sama, at your service!

[FOR WHAT, YATO?!]

[ The sudden entrance has her jolting a little, turning with wide eyes to see the unknown god addressing her and offering her... a card? Yona's eyes are a little wide as she accepts it, peering at the writing on it as she wonders if she's... supposed to have heard of him already?

Sorry, Yato. At least you sound very impressive? ]

Oh! Hello! [ Considering that illustrious introduction, she dips into a polite bow of greeting. ] I'm Yona. Is there... something you needed? [ Even if that sounded like the exact opposite of what he'd come here for, but she wasn't sure what he could be offering. ]

[ Her excitement is pretty similar as his excitement. He's never been to a festival like this at all, so (after getting hold of cigarettes and smoking some until he burned his fingers) he's all wide eyes and grins.

He is pretty good at keeping track of his feet and the people around him though, it comes with the watchfulness one develop after almost a lifetime on the outlaw trail. This excitement (particularly about all the food, because it's been a while since he saw proper food not biscuits or dried meat or things in cans) makes him a little less watchful and does result in back into her when he tries to get a broader scope on the food.

He turns around and tries to look apologetic but he's a bit too excited about this situation. ]

Sorry, miss, seems I ain't lookin' where I'm goin' or ain't goin'.

[ Getting bumped into so suddenly has her almost losing her balance, but she's quick to right it again after a slight wince. When he turns to apologize though, she waves it away with a sheepish smile of her own. ]

It's alright, I wasn't watching very closely either. Everything here is very distracting, isn't it?
