The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[ Now that is one incredibly cool kid. Still younger than she is though but still a pretty cool kid.

There is a raccoon over her shoulder, peering curiously at Dave though. Head tilted, eyes wide. She hasn't brought him out much but she figured now was as good a time as any. ]

I don't think you'd like the hard way very much. But I can tell you I'm just as clueless as the rest of you are.

I mean, the hard way has its merits, but it's an exercise in fuck pointless if--okay is that a goddamn raccoon on your shoulder, are you shitting me right now.

[He changes tack seamlessly, to the point it would almost seem like one long sentence if not for the shortest pause possible to indicate the separation. He also remains deadpan the entire time, so it's kind of hard to tell whether he's actually at all offended by the presence of the raccoon or whether it's just a talking point.]

It is. I don't bring him out very often but he wanted to take a walk and I thought I'd like a little company.

[ But she does chuckle slightly though. Yup, she knows that speech pattern anywhere. ]

You know, I wasn't sure if it was you but now I'm sure. Is this what you look like de-birdified, Davesprite?

Okay, that doesn't really do anything to explain why you have a raccoon in the first place, but sure, we'll roll with that like it's one-hundred percent normal pet material.

[At her second comment, though, he quirks a brow before tilting his head a little to survey her over his glasses.]

Don't know what kind of telephone game you were playing with someone who knows me, but it's Dave Strider, not Davesprite. And any birds trying to involve themselves with me can fly right back into the asscrack of hell where those satanic motherfuckers are birthed from.

He's a memento... from a friend.

[ And there's the smallest nostalgic smile at that. Nagisa was a good kid and kept way too many raccoons at his temple for some reason. But hey, this one decided to stick around her instead of disappearing.

There's a tilt of her head though. She's trying to figure this out. ]

If you aren't Davesprite and just Dave... Strider... Can we at least chalk it up to an innocent mistake? I take it you know him.

Okay, so we're going the vague-ass Chekov's gun route here where we drop a hint now that pays off later, right.

[Because yeah, that's a really unspecific way to describe it. Not that Dave really expects her to if it's something incredibly personal, but he can still throw shade about it.

When she asks if he knows the guy she mistook him for, he shakes his head.] Wouldn't know him from any other Dave or Dave-related entry in whatever social network is flavour of the month right now. But I don't remember anything back past yesterday morning, either, so maybe it has something to do with this place apparently going Memento on my woefully unprepared ass.

I'd thought to spare you the details but if you'd rather get a more concrete answer... a friend of mine used to have raccoons at his temple. When he disappeared, I found this one had shown up where I had been staying at the time.

[ She'd even named the little rodent after him. But there's a hum of thought though. ]

I doubt anyone was prepared for whatever had happened here. Do you remember anything at all though about why you're here?

Okay, fair, probably shouldn't have pried like an asshole but it was asking to be a comedic non-sequitur at least. [Dave raises his hands briefly before putting them back in his pockets.

Kuroyukihime's remark gets a shake of the head, though he's also a bit more attentive given what she says.] You make it sound like you know your shit, but as it is, I've only got the details I could pry out of that outdated excuse for a chatroom the Heavens have happening, so I'm gonna figure the story so far is that I woke up in the temple of whichever lucky god owns this piece of sweet-ass real estate.

[It feels...wrong to show his eyes, but after a moment of mulling on it, he tilts his shades up for about the barest possible second. Visible in the iris of his left eye is the kanji for "bequeath".]

Fucked if I know what it says, but it's pretty hard to miss when the shades come down. Which is one of the signs of the impending apocalypse, so you should probably watch out for that now.

No, it's fine. Nagi's a nice reminder every now and then, after all. As for the 'story', so to speak... I think you have it half right.

[ Random Kanji? She's got you covered though. There's a pause as she lifts the hem of her shirt just barely to show what seems to be an obscured kanji character just by her hip. Not high enough to be scandalous, just enough to show she's got one too. ]

If it's enough to bring the apocalypse, then you should probably save that for bigger ayakashi.

[It is kind of reassuring to see the weird kanji thing isn't just him, even if it is a different weird kanji. Just the concept of having been named by someone else is bizarre to him.]

Half right works for me, I think the world might detonate from sheer accuracy shock if I was dead on the money about it, best to put that off as long as possible.

[And...that's a word he read today, wasn't it.] Those are the fucked-up demon things we're supposed to fight, right.

That's right.

[ Man, there's still so much to go over with these newbies. ]

Things may look relatively safe but I doubt it'll last very long. There's always something.

I'm pretty fucking sure the something is some of the thing that's happening right now, because whatever this is, there's something messed up about the way time's running here.

[If he was asked, he couldn't say how he knows. But somehow, he can sense time here is off its rocker, and it's putting him off as well.]
