016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

A. (Before) What time war?

( Urashima can't explain it but there's something really bothering him. Of course, he isn't the only one feeling this way. He's noticed others stopping as if trying to catch bearings and make sense of whatever it is they're feeling in the air-- he can feel that too. But there's something else bothering him. It sure would be easier to express himself if he could remember the fact he was a time traveling sword boy but without the right memories, he's left bothering others for their words, )

What do you think is going on...?

B. (7/16) I NEED AN ADULT

( He hadn't been able to sleep the night before, too nerved by the strange feeling in the air.
With the burst of energy, he'd been quick to investigate and it hadn't taken him long to realize something had happened. Look, even Urashima can acknowledge that Oona is a little different from others and maybe possibly on the strange side but she definitely wasn't like that the last time he saw her?! And how does he even deal with that?!

He'd been too confused to go back to sleep and by the time morning comes, he's quick to try to find someone who has the answers. But all he's found so far are children, children, children! He likes children but this isn't what he's looking for. He's looking for an adult and when he can't take it anymore, he settles for yelling out into the air, )

Are there any grown-ups here?!

( Yells the 500 year old sword spirit. )

[ And lucky for the sword, this witch has remained unchanged. Her god's busy, her fellow shinki's keeping to himself as usual so she's decided to go see if she can investigate anything herself.

And that involves overhearing Urashima's outburst. ]

There are but I imagine they're just as clueless as the children are, unfortunately.

( He can't help but look at her in disbelief. Can you really blame him? It's hard to imagine that the heavens would struggle to have some babysitters or something! If they can't even take care of some wild kids, how are they supposed to take care of the earthly world? )

No way... ( No. Way. ) Do you know anything?

In terms of the hows and whys, I'm afraid not. But I do know one thing: some of these children happen to be the adults you're looking for.

[ Man, what a morning it's been, too. ]

I'm a grown up!

[Says the tiny child of around 8, with two swords on his shoulder.]

You look pretty grown down to me.

( He's an honest soul. )

.... I shrunk.

[Because that's obviously what happened.]

But I can remember everything and I'm still an adult on the inside!

( Looking at the swords. At Zoro. )

... Are you sure? ( This isn't just a kid claiming ot be an adult, is it... ) How do I know you're telling the truth?

I can remember being an adult?

[He frowns, not really knowing what to say.]

Until this morning I was happily old and sleeping with my boyfriend.

Chinatsu| 6 years old

[She had no idea where she was, she was alone, and she was getting hungry. Chinatsu hated this. More specifically, she hated being scared. Prideful as she was, she kept her head held high as she walked through this mysterious place. She didn't even know how she got there. All she knew was that yesterday, she was here, with nothing but what she was wearing and her name. Oh no, she was starting to tear up again. Chinatsu glared down at the ground, thinking if she glared hard enough, the tears would retreat. Suddenly, it was no longer the ground she was glaring at, but a pair of tiny eyes.]

Uwah!!

[She stepped backwards, surprised by the appearance of the creature. It was...a turtle? What was a turtle doing out here? Chintasu tilted her head in confusion, crossing her arms as she stared at the mysterious turtle. Was that a fluffy tail? Did turtles have tails like that?]

.....C...Cute..!!!

[Immediately she squatted down on the floor, eyes sparkling at the tiny little sea creature]

( He can't find Oona. Oona is somewhere? He isn't sure if she's turned to dust or suddenly become a baby somewhere and if she's a baby, then where is she??? What if she's fallen into a laundry machine somewhere?! He can't find Kamekichi either but that's nothing unusual for the most responsible pet owner. All things combined, it's no surprise that he'd stumble upon another girl, )

Himechan, where'd you go--? ( Without thinking, he's already kneeled down to scoop her up but stops just short. Crouched down at Chinatsu's level, he tilts his head to the side for a half second. Is she actually a kid or another one of those new kids? Either way, he doesn't recognize her and he gives her a friendly smile, ) Did you find Himechan? Thanks!

[Chinatsu was just reaching out for the turtle, when suddenly another creature popped up. A man? She pulled her hand back, eyeing him cautiously.]

Himechan... So she's yours?

( Did he scare her? He didn't mean to and he smiles sheepishy, )

Mm, she's my best friend. ( And he reachs down to rub her shell. Though she appears to be sleeping,
her tail flicks to and fro happily and she opens her mouth in a wide and content yawn. ) Ah... she says nice to meet you, I think!

Heh heh, I don't really speak turtle...

[she watches him rub the turtle, eyes widening at its reaction. So..so cute!! Its tail was wagging, its tail was wagging! Ahhh she wanted to touch her too! ]

Heh heh! ( He notices and he beckons for her to come closer, ) Do you want to pet her? It's okay. She doesn't bite!

... Usually, heh heh.

[Did she ever!! Having the owner's permission, she reaches out slowly, gently tapping the top of the turtle's head]

I touched her..!!!

[Oh boy was she excited right now. She continues stroking her heard, feeling very satisfied]

Nice turtle, nice turtle..

( While Chinatsu is distracted and starting to relax, Urashima gives her some time. He's a patient soul and doesn't mind giving her a moment with Kamekichi, )

Her name's Himechan. ( He explains, ) I'm Urashima. What about you?

Himechan~

[Someone who has such a cute pet can't be too bad right?

Chinatsu glances up at him, but doesn't stop petting the turtle]

I'm Chinatsu Hiyama.

( Kamekichi has been good to Urashima with all of these children running around. She's probably going to be tired later (isn't she always sleeping to begin with, though?) and he'll make sure to give her some sweet strawberries later. )

Chinatsu-chan? ( Yes? No? ) Are you new? Or are you just small? I've never seen you before.

[Chinatsu nods. She didn't mind. He was nice enough to let her pet his turtle and all.]

I'm new..and no, I'm not this small. AH! Do you know why I'm like this?

[Her head snapped up to look at Urashima. Maybe this guy had answers!]
