016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[ The easiest people for Yona to check up on were, obviously, the shinki she had in the temple. Which is weird to think of, how they went from just the two of them (and some cats) over to doubling the amount of people. Yesterday it was Yona who was 4, and while Shizuo was affected, he was still almost a teenager.

Today, Shizuo's a wee bit younger. Also less blond, and with a few new accessories fixed onto him. Though Yona will hear the small voice before getting to his room. ]

Ow. Fucking shit, this hurts.

[ With the brace, sling and everything else, Shizuo's realizing how much of his body he uses when trying to get up. As well as being aware of how heavy a head can be when your neck is broken and you're trying to rise up. ]

[ She'd woken up herself again and for a moment, thought that maybe the events of the past couple of crazy days had been a dream.

But no, not all of it had, at least, because she can still feel three distinct shinki attached to her, which she takes as both a relief and an ache. Getting up and getting dressed, she moves out through her Temple to see how much havoc had happened yesterday while she'd been... indisposed?

Only she hears that young voice before she gets very far down the hallway, turning instead towards the room Shizuo uses as his own. She taps her fingertips lightly against the frame before peering tentatively inside. ]

Shizuo? What's wrong?

[ And then she catches sight of him, her eyes flying wide. ] What happened??

[ He's still swearing through the pain when getting himself upright when Yona reaches the doorway. The deep breaths he's forcing could either be from how hard the task was, or an attempt to manage the pain. Honestly, he's not completely sure himself.

But as he looks up to see Yona, there's at least a small relief. ]

... Good. You're back to normal.

[ Answer the question, you goober. Maybe he would, but he's still getting his breathing back to normal. ]

But you're not! Have we switched?

[ Leaving the doorway, she comes in to carefully sink down beside him, hands reaching out before pausing to hover, now sure where is safe to touch. ]

You're hurt. You woke up like this?

I wasn't exactly normal yesterday, either. How much do you remember?

[ Well, after managing to sit up, at this point Shizuo's using his one free hand to carefully feel around his neck ]

But yeah, this is how I woke up. I guess this is just how I was as a kid.

... I think my neck is broken.

[ That's his guess with how tough the brace is. ]

[ She casts him a sheepish look. ]

All of it, I'm afraid. I'm sorry if I was a handful. Although if you're looking like this today, I think I'm glad I'm back to normal.

[ A suspicion that only grows at his announcement, eyes widening. ] Broken? I didn't think that was possible... [ Except she knew it was, since she had seen it, once. But everything else he'd tried since arriving here... ]

Maybe one of the gods with healing abilities can come assist us. [ She's already reaching for her phone. ]

It's not like you were so bad. I'm glad you're normal today, too.

[ You are a climber and he could not handle that today. He's glancing over to see what her hands are doing, and as nice as it'd be to not be broken, there's a different thought coming to mind. ]

Can you say, for sure, that they aren't children or so old that they can't do it? Because I was out there yesterday and there were a lot of people who were kids.

[ Honestly, he's in a lot of pain. It's a feeling and situation he has no memory of having gone through, so this was completely new. ]

[ She hesitates because no, she has no idea actually. She hadn't made it any farther than his room just yet. ]

Ahh... You might have a point. I'll go see who I can find personally, then. Can I get you anything in the meantime?

Ah- a glass of milk. Thanks. I'll be on the way.

[ Though he's starting to get an idea. Which is why he slides out of bed and carefully moves over to his bedside table to get the phone resting on it. ]

I think I can get something from Izumo that'll help.

Wh-what?! [ Have a very flailing Yona, still not sure where to touch, but very determined that you shouldn't be getting out of bed! ]

Shizuo, no! You should stay here and rest! What does Izumo have, I can go and fetch it for you.

[ For some reason, Shizuo can't help but blink at the redhead's insistence. Sure, he was in a lot of pain- almost more than he can handle- but he couldn't just stay in a bed all day. ]

I'm not bedridden. The brace, cast and everything is so I can heal and still do things. As long as I don't move my head around or mess with my other arm, it'll be fine.

And Izumo has pills that'll help with the pain.

You have broken bones! [ She looks rather irate about this - not at him, but her shinki is hurt and this is not okay. She doesn't like seeing anyone hurt, but especially him. ] Lay down, you're not going to move around. Especially because I can tell that it hurts when you do. I'll go ask Izumo for these pills that will help with the pain and you can have those and some milk and then take it easy until we figure out how to fix this.

I've obviously lived through it before.

[ Otherwise he wouldn't have woken up like this. There's something else that's just as important, which is why he couldn't just stay in bed. ]

Besides... What about those other two you brought back? If they're kids too, I can't look after them. I can walk, though.

I'll look after them. [ That's easy enough. ] Jae-Ha never changed yesterday, so maybe he's still the same. And Hak... [ Hak was a handful no matter what age he happened to be. ] It's only fair since you looked after me yesterday.

But stop moving until we do something about this!

I wasn't the only one looking after you. You know that.

[ Because she'd remember that he left, to check on other people, after making sure she wasn't left on her own. ]

Look, go check on the others before deciding anything else. You can't go assuming things are the same as yesterday. I'm not really going anywhere.

[ He's gotta send those texts over to Izumo first. ]

[ Which is true, but that's also when she'd escaped the house to go exploring for herself, so... ]

Alright, I'll go see how the others are. But please take it easy today. For my sake, if not your own? I hate seeing you in pain.

Well, it's a good thing that this is probably the only time you'll ever see that.

[ Because it'd take a shock of lightning to his system to feel anything as an adult, or so he figures. ]

Don't worry. I'll be fine.

[ She pauses, reaching out to carefully brush her fingers over his brow. ]

I'll try not to. But please promise me you'll be careful today? You're hurt. It's alright to be gentle with yourself until we figure out how to fix this.

[ He doesn't flinch away- his brace makes it hard to do even if he wanted to- but there's a series of blinks and he looks up to see Yona's arm. But he doesn't really need to see what she's doing, because Shizuo can actually feel it. ]

Yeah. It's not like I'm going to get in fights. This is just the most I've been able to feel things. It'd suck if I spent the last of that time stuck in bed, you know?

[ She bends slightly to meet his gaze, considering his words before nodding. ]

That would be a shame. But I'm still going to look for someone who can help with the broken bones, if I can find someone. I think you'd enjoy yourself more if you weren't limited by pain and bandage, don't you?

Ah... As long as it doesn't cause them problems for doing it. Either way, I'll be back later.

[ Back and moderately healed. Not fully, but it was in a way that Shizuo would rather not remember. He'll certainly never divulge the details. ]
