The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[There is absolutely no mistaking that red hair and smile, even if he looks closer to Yukine in age now. And just like with the adult version, there’s really no point in trying to turn away his friendly advance.
At the question Yukine can only shake his head and grin ruefully.]

You too, huh, Suzugamori-sama? I’m Yukine, I’m not new, and something weird has happened to you today. Heh- but you look like you’re enjoying it anyway…
Hey, even though you forgot stuff I hope you fed the cats and the puppy and the fish before you left your place. [Priorities.]

[Congrats, Yukine, you're actually older than Ren now because when Ren was your age he'd already descended into villainy.

A lot of what Yukine is saying is kind of weird and he doesn't have enough context to really comment on it (wasn't the weird thing that he came here? but this guy already knows him...). But he definitely has one thing to look confused about and comment on.]

My name isn't "Sama"... [He just told you his name, gosh, Yukine. But there's an even more pressing concern here, which has him looking confused and a little worried.] That's my place? There isn't someone else there who's going to feed them?

[Sigh. If he doesn't get -sama, there's no point in saying it.
But priorities, man!]

It sure is. I ...guess your shinki but- if they're in the same situation as you, then no one has fed them yet today? Man, that's bad. Let's go back and take care of them! [Come to think of it, who is Suzugamori's shinki now? Has it changed? The new guys change so frequently. Well, he'll just wrack his brain on the way.]

[So, he doesn't really get how it's his place, since he'd never seen it before...but if the animals are really counting on him to take care of them, then understand it it doesn't really matter.

Ren nods hastily and clenches his fist in determination as he prepares to set off.]

Yes! I'm really glad you told me, Yukine-kun. I wouldn't have left if I knew that...

[And then he just. keeps looking around.]

...Umm...

[He has no idea which way to go to get back there.]

[Yukine was kind of expecting the god to be able to teleport them both back to his temple but… … sigh.]

I guess you can’t teleport there if you don’t remember either. Fine, let’s just walk. [And he starts walking in that direction. He’s been there often enough.]

Seriously though, you don’t remember which way you came from? Have you always been so bad with directions? [It’s kind of amusing, finding out something new about the god he knows.]

[Oh good, at least his new friend knows the way! Ren cheerfully follows after him, only looking a little sheepish about not knowing where to go.]

I'm okay with them if I pay attention, but I guess I was too excited to go out and explore today. This place is amazing. I want to see everything.

[Okay, but there was definitely a thing Yukine said that is way more interesting than his issues with direction.]

By the way, what did you mean by "teleport"?

I suppose it’s pretty amazing, being heaven and all.

And I mean just what it sounds like? Gods can teleport themselves from one place – poof – to another. …Uh, if no one else has filled you in on the whole god thing yet, I don’t think it really matters for now. You being younger than before and missing a bunch of memories is way more of a thing.
