Oooh, I'm not sure I've found ones that look like castles yet. I may have to go looking for those. I do like the hill one you have, though. It's very cozy, isn't it? There's so many different and interesting ones to see. And new ones keep popping up all over!

[Shun nods eagerly.] They were both really amazing, you should definitely see them. And I like my hill...but I didn't know you'd been there too. It would've been here longer than this morning, right?

[Those two adults he met in there would at least have to have lived there before he got here...]

Yes, it's been here for a little while now.

[ Oh, people not having memories at the moment is making everything difficult. ]

I found it not long after I first arrived here, actually. One day I'm going to figure out how to befriend the grumpy birds.

Okay. I thought it had to be, but I didn't really know. [Fubuki had said it was a temple, so it must've been around for a long time...

Shun seems satisfied with that explanation, and he laughs at the mention of the grumpy birds.] One of the people in the place I woke up was scared of them. It was really funny, and he was trying to get me not to pet one of them that was the most friendly of them all.

I think they like you a lot. I'm not sure about anyone else though.

[ Nanako laughs at that. ]

I'm glad it still let you pet it, though.

I don't think it'd make much sense for them to like me and nobody else. [Shun taps his cheek a bit as if he's considering the idea, though. And...no, still seems silly, so he moves on.]

I think it was used to it. It seemed kinda curious.

Maybe you're just very likable?

[ She grins, because part of her is trying to imagine this conversation with the Shun she knows and how much he probably wouldn't appreciate that sentiment at all. ]

I dunno. At least a bird can't be mean about me being too responsible or nerdy or something.

[It's not his fault he's a big brother. It doesn't seem weird to him at all that she thinks that, though, because he does try to be most of the time.]

No, just about being hungry, maybe. [ She laughs softly as she reaches out to rest a hand atop his head. ] I think the birds know how friendly you can be, sometimes they can sense things like that. Especially ones around here.

The guy who was scared of them already fed them, though, so they can't be hungry. [At least not until later. While he seems momentarily surprised by the hand on his head, Shun mostly reserves his reaction to a brief blink.]

So they can do that for everyone? They must be smart birds.

A lot of the animals here are very smart. [ At least from what she's seen. Not that she's been everywhere yet, but a good many of the pets she's encountered have been more than just mere animals. ] Maybe because most of the ones that live here are special.

How many animals are there here? I've only seen the big birds so far. [There have to be more than just those, but he hasn't found them yet, which is a little sad.] Why are they special?

Mmm, I think it's because most of them live at the temples and belong to the gods. So they're a little more special than normal animals who live elsewhere. Does that make sense? [ She actually hadn't thought about it much before now. ]

Oh, I guess so. So the big birds are owned by a god too? [...Shun still isn't aware of his status here despite having had to change Fubuki into vessel form earlier.] Do you have animals as well?

[ Yes, but she's not explaining that to you right now when she suspects it would just confuse things further. So instead she nods at the second question. ]

I do. I have a lake full of fish, although those are mostly normal. There are pelicans that stand guard around it, though. And they seem much smarter than a normal bird. They were sacred to the goddess I'm here to represent.

[Thankfully, the answer to the second question is thorough enough that Shun pretty much misses her having dodged the first one and just goes along with it.]

Oh, that sounds really cool. I like that this place sounds like it has a lot of smart birds. But isn't it weird for pelicans to guard a fish pond when they eat fish?

Maybe that's why they're guarding it? But there's plenty of fish in the lake for them and whoever else wants to come fish anyway.

Maybe...if there's other animals that wanted to eat the fish, I guess it would make sense.

[Speaking of eating, though, he's forgotten about doing that himself in all the excitement of the conversation, and he looks down at the box in his hands before laughing a little.]

Ah, I should eat so I can keep looking around. This place is so big and cool I dunno if I'll be able to see it all just today.
