A fashionable visit
Who: Forrest and Orihime
When: July 19
Where: Orihime's Temple
What: A personalized mission
[With the help of Sakura and Nephenee, Forrest has come up with a good design and even a preliminary mock-up of the kimono he's decided to make for Amaterasu. All that's left now is to show it to Orihime, get her advice on it, and finish it together. So now that the aging shenanigans are over with and he's made sure everyone he knows is okay, he figures it's high time he pays his new teacher a visit. Quietly approaching her temple with some bags full of supplies, he sets them down and calls inside.]
Lady Orihime? It's Forrest. I've brought the design mock-up we discussed before.

Have you now? I should hardly be surprised. You have such an eye for the art, after all...
[Then she beckons him inside.]
I will be delighted to see your hard work take shape.

I had some help from two friends of mine. I think the design turned out beautifully.
[He looks around for a moment.]
Is there a space where I can lay everything out at once?
no subject
[Instead of her low table.]
That way I will be able to see your design in full while I am assembling it. This should not take very long, if your design as detailed as I hope.

[Forrest heads over to the desk, slowly and methodically setting everything out. The kimono itself will be made of silk, with silk brocade for the actual pattern, which is a magnificent rising sun motif. The colors are all appropriately bright as befits a sun goddess. The overall effect will look something like this except with finer details and a somewhat more vibrant palette.]
This is what we came up with after a discussion about the design. Sakura and Nephenee were a big help with ideas and how to put all the colors together.
[Credit where credit is due, of course.]

Sakura and... oh but I met Nephenee, did I not? Yes, hmm... let me see... I have a dye method in mind that you might enjoy.
[She puts her hands out in front of herself and pushes her sleeves up to her elbows - not at all something she does in front of the public at large. Then she pulls out a bolt of white fabric - or rather, she gestures towards the fabric and it rises into the air. She has the ability to telekinetically control her sewing supplies, but as a pair of sheers appear alongside some heavy needles and thread, it is clear that there is still a manual process to the creation that Forrest can follow.
She first creates the kimono segments - long narrow columns of the cloth independent of one another. Then, buckets of water appear and she has to move closer to them so that she can observe the dye colors getting added and in what quantities. After that, a million tiny bands burst up into the ceiling like snow that doesn't want to fall. The bands move onto the columns of fabric, pinching in all of the various places that would eventually produce a design like Forrest imagined.
Once the dye is applied, some dabs of water are applied as well to help the dye take. Then it's dunked in another solution to hold the dye in place. Finally, she pulls out a... hair dryer? Well, it's certainly not a personal dryer, but it's meant to dry clothes.]
This I only barely managed to make work.
[She lets go of it, and it starts to hover like the rest of her tools - moving near the fabric. It dries and then the bands all snap off. The finished effect is in the style of a watercolor painting, but uses Forrest's intended design.]

[Forrest nods, smiling excitedly as she gets started. He pays rapt attention to her methods, eyes wide and mouth literally agape in wonder at certain points during the process. The steps are easy enough to follow despite the fact that she's controlling her tools magically, and it's clear that he's taking copious mental notes and memorizing every move.]
Oh, how pretty! I can't even imagine how long that would take without your magic.
[Well, he can, since that's how he's done it all his life. But still, he's very impressed.]
It's exactly how I envisioned it looking, right down to the texture. I'd love to be able to learn how to do that.
Sorry for my stupid hiatus augh
You were able to follow along with the way I assembled the garment? What a proud teacher I am today.
[She lowers the finished product onto a display hook - a very large pole that shoots the sleeves out to the side - before turning back to Forrest with her hands at her side, no more magical creations required of her at this time.]
Shall we summon Fuujin to see the work now? Or was there some additional enhancement you had in mind, my student?
/patpat
Yes... it was faster than I'm used to being able to work, but many of the steps were familiar.
[He looks even more impressed with it once it's hanging up and he can view it in its full splendor.]
Now that I'm seeing it like this, I do have an idea.
<3
[She smiles and prepares to listen to his idea, with enough detail to reproduce whatever he's considering. Regardless, she's sure that it'll be something Amaterasu will enjoy.]
no subject
[Of course, that does mean it would eventually set at night, which gets in the way of the whole Unconquered Sun theme she's got going on as a solar goddess, but maybe the effect would be impressive enough not to matter.]
no subject
Why... how wonderful an idea that is, especially for our lady, Amaterasu!
[She moves to open a pantry screen door that unveils many wooden boxes with kanji written on the front of them. She finds and tucks into her palm: the top of a carrot that seems to be re-sprouting, a vial of salmon-colored liquid and shredded pieces of similar color, a tuft of fur, a candle, and some sand.]
This is an old one, but they tend to last the longest...
[With a mortar and pestle, she grinds the ingredients together... Then stands back. With both hands, she draws them all upwards... in a straight line suspended mid-air. Then, she slowly presses forward, until all of it lingers just an inch above the finished kimono. Orihime steps forward to wave her hand gently up and down, seeming to press the combination into the fabric of the... fabric. When it connects with the fabric, there's a soft glow - an orange-red glow that then subdues.]
And now to see...
[She stands back, waiting, and like a Chameleon the kimono starts to shift just slightly. The overall pattern remains, but the colors match the outside sky a lot better in a soft gradient.]
no subject
...It worked! It looks just like a real setting sun.
[They've been at this for a while by now, after all.]
How soon can we show it to Fuujin? I'm eager to see what he'll think of it.
no subject
[She steps back just enough to collect her BBS device from its place on her desk, since she's not the sort to keep it on her at all times like more modern beings might.]
Will you still be available in an hour? I thought I would offer him that much preparation in case he is busy. It will also give us time to carefully maneuver the gift towards his temple - in a way that will keep its true nature hidden until your reveal.
no subject
[Forrest smiles, letting out a small relieved sigh. He's confident in his ability, of course, but he knows how much is at stake here.]
Of course. I've kept the whole day open just for this.
no subject
[She does know how to text, so she goes ahead and writes out a short letter to Fuujin explaining that she would like to get his approval before presenting a gift to Lady Amaterasu - and that creator of the gift will be joining her as her guest.]
There, that should get passed along to Fuujin - if he is not busy - or Kaede - if he is.
[He'll mostly be following her lead when it's time to go.]
[1/2]
Kaede greeted them at the entrance and lead them through Fuujin's large shrine. She holds open the door to Fuujin's room for Orihime and her guest. There's a small smile pulling at the corners of her lips as she ducks her head a bit. While she is going to keep to the background it's evident she wants to see the gift as well as how Fuujin will react to it. It's hard to guess the result.
Fuujin lazily glances over to them from his comfortable seat on the window sill, one leg propped up and the other dangling out over the side of the open window. He doesn't bother moving from his spot and instead nods to Orihime. When his eyes shift to Forrest however, it's evident he's not over pleased with his company.]
You know an hour really is that much of a notice for a busy and well-known God of Fortune....but I made time for you---and your friend. This better be good.
[Is Goldilocks her friend? He's hoping maybe he's assuming too much here but whatever. They are here for business. While everything Orihime makes is outstanding her message did say the creator would be joining her. So if she didn't make it then he really isn't expecting much. Forrest continues to get dry stares from Fuujin. Orihime is always welcomed to his shrine but her tag-a-long is just an added annoyance that he's tolerating for Orihime. But there's only so long that will last.]
no subject
He inspects the fabric and even reaches out to gently touch it. It's soft and it feels like fabric...which is weird considering the pattern. He doesn't know the first thing about clothing but he knows quality and this is just...]
...This is really your doing?
[The question is directed to Forrest, obviously suspicious that a newbie godling could even think up such a kimono. However, Orihime isn't one to let others take credit for her work either.]
You really made this for Ammy--Amaterasu?
no subject
Yes, that's right. Lady Orihime helped me with the enchantment, but the fabric choice, pattern, design elements, and the effect you're seeing now were all my own idea.
[He won't take credit where it isn't due, of course, but he's absolutely going to be honest about which elements of the finished work were his.]
no subject
Of course Orihime had to help you. There's no way a godling could make something like this solo...
[His eyes softens as he glances back to the enchanted kimono. There's the faintest smile that pulls on the corners of his lips as he imagines Amaterasu's reaction when she see it.]
But.....that being said, good work. Amaterasu could use a pick me up after everything that has happened to her. I think she'll love it.
no subject
Thank you. It means a lot to hear that from one of the old gods.
[With a grateful smile, Forrest bows his head respectfully.]
no subject
I must also reiterate to you, Lord Fuujin, that I did not envision this on my own. I would not have crafted a gift for our lady of this quality on my own, for I have been so uninspired.
[She gestures to Forrest.]
Meanwhile, the new gods are immensely creative in this regard. I therefore implore you to keep him in your esteem. We will thus be allowed to present the gift to Lady Amaterasu, I take it?
no subject
....One godling having creativity doesn't mean the rest do.
[He gives a dismissive way, clearly trying not to seem too impressed with the gift.]
But...like I said, good work. I look forward to seeing what else you can do so don't slack off, alright?
[That's the best Forrest is going to get out of him. He nods to Orihime]
Yeah, give it to her. She'll like it.
no subject
[He'll show you, Fuujin. Show you with pretty clothes.]
Thank you again. I'll be sure to let you know what she says.
no subject
Thank you, Lord Fuujin.
[She turns to walk out and places a hand on Forrest's shoulder.]
Come, my apprentice.
