In anticipation of the latest round of new arrivals, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. In that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a hall near the dojo for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline as well as offering a lecture on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.

Targets have been hung up just outside the dojo for people practicing borderlines of both the defensive and cutting variety. They've clearly been made by kids: they're big, crayon-colored butcher paper cutouts of ayakashi, carefully detailed. Some of Bishamon's child shinki are working on more towards the side of the practice area, with crayons scattered all around. They could use some help from anyone with an artistic bent.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Bishamon's shinki have gone all out this time and created an obstacle course for physical training as well. Climb walls, crawl through mud, jump across randomly spaced stumps, find your way through a maze and collect one of each of five different-colored ribbons being handed out by shinki attendants for completing each section within the allotted time.

Rest and Refreshments

Since the obstacle course is even messier than the usual training session, one of Bishamon's shinki will show anyone who asks the way to the showers to get cleaned up afterwards. There are hydrating drinks and light snacks available outside the dojo, along with fresh, lemon-scented towels.

In Bishamon's garden, a proper English tea has been laid, with a long table containing sweet and savory nibbles, and small wicker tables with two or three chairs set out all over the lawn. Gods and shinki can sit down for a talk here, get to know each other, and adjust to their new situation.

Bishamon's shinki do seem a little overworked, though, trying to serve tea all around. They'd welcome anyone, new or old, willing to put on one of the crisp white aprons and help serve some tea.

[Yamanbagiri is helping out with making the targets when he overheard what's going on. Looking up with a blink, he frowns and get up onto his feet. He walks over towards them and stops, placing a hand on his hip.]

... Let him draw whatever he wants. Does it matter if it's blue or not?

Have you ever seen a blue cow?

[ Hibiki does not appear to have gotten the point. ]

[He answers that bluntly. Because well, how would he know anyway. BUT.]

That doesn't mean they can't make blue cows as targets. If they want to, let them.

Their education has clearly been neglected!

[ Yes that is

absolutely the conclusion one should draw from a small dead kid drawing a blue cow

[He just gives her the most baffled look.]

... So? If you're that concerned, take it up with their God or whoever is teaching them.

I intend to.

[ A glance around. No god presents themselves.

How inconvenient. ]

....Locate them.

[ The kid's hand slips and they color outside the lines.

They at least have the good sense to look dismayed about this, and hunch over the paper in the hopes the yelling big "brother" won't notice. ]

Right. You'll do that...

[Yamanbagiri glances down to see how the kid's feeling. And see the colour outside of the lines. He crouches down next to them, and trying to use a more softer tone.]

That's an accident, right? But we can still use it.

[priforprince]

Me?

[ She just told you to. Perhaps you misunderstood....

...and now you're drawing. Sort of. Hibiki will refrain from interrupting since you do appear to be assisting with the picture. Is there hope for this image yet???

The shinki seems open to hearing how even an accident can be used. ]

[He seems to be thinking for a moment, before he picks up... a black crayon! And uses it to draw a new outline around the mistake.

Now it's a cow monster with... some kind of appendages? Horns? Wings? Well, it's something.]

... How's this?

[priforprince]

[ Oh! It's more like a monster now! The shinki curls their fingers more tightly around their blue crayon and nods.

Hibiki sticks a hand in her pockets, observing. ] I see. Recasting it as the ayakashi it's supposed to be excuses the palette.

[He looks up at Hibiki.]

Yeah. If someone makes a mistake, salvage it if it's not impossible.

[Better than wasting time scolding a poor kid.]

[priforprince]

You're an optimist.

[ Said in English. For no reason. ]

[replicatedform]

Optim... what?

[Speak in Japanese, will you.]

Is that a bad thing?

[priforprince]

...there may not be a point to continuing with this audience.

[ She will speak whatever language she pleases and expect you to know what she says, thank you very much. ]

[replicatedform]

... If that's what you think.

[He stands back up again.]

Just don't scold him again about this.

[priforprince]

If he's clever, once will suffice.

[ Look, mister! The shinki tugs on both their clothes. And, um, scary mister. The monster is done. ]

[replicatedform]

["Scary mister"...

Blinking, he looks down and nods. Yamanbagiri bends down a little to have a better look, before he gives... a hint of a smile.]

You did great. You can put this up now, if you want.

[priforprince]

[ Scary mister remains unimpressed even as the kid breaks into a smile at being complimented by the other mister. Then off they run to display their masterpiece.

Hibiki sighs. Eloquently. ]

[replicatedform]

[Now the kid's gone, he can drop the smile and glances over at Hibiki.]

That's that. I'm going now.

[The only reason he's saying it instead of leaving immediately is to see if Hibiki have any other objections. He turns to leave.]

[priforprince]

As you will.

[ One point in his favor: that seems to have almost been asking permission. Hibiki enjoys being deferred to. ]

It was a hopeless case, anyway.

I disagree.

[And that's all he said, before walking away. Later, "scary mister".]
