[About half an hour after Ren and Hibari disappeared, Eric will be getting this text:]

Hello, Eric-kun,

I'd like to start by saying I'm sorry for Hibari's behavior. I spoke to him earlier about you because I knew he would be upset about this and I didn't want it to be a surprise, but I also underestimated just how upset he was and thought he wouldn't be feeling well enough to do anything but sulk. Obviously, that was a mistake, and I'm really sorry. I hope he didn't hurt you too much before I found you.

I understand if you'd rather not have anything to do with either of us, but you're still my shinki so I'm not going to just abandon you. My other name is Inanna, and if you need a place to stay, all you need to do is go to my shrine and wish for it. You'll appear at my home and there are plenty of extra rooms. You're free to pick any one you like.

Hibari will be staying elsewhere for the time being. Also please be aware that we have several kittens and ducks and they all like to get underfoot.

I'm sorry I couldn't give you the better welcome you deserved.

[ He was surprised that the two just...disappeared. He stayed where he was for a few moments, before figuring out it was best to just leave. Where, he had no idea.

He's also surprised his phone buzzes and out comes a text from Ren. Damn it's long and formal... ]

I'm fine.

[ There's a small pause before the next text comes in. ]

where's your shrine? Guess i'm not welcome when he's around, so until i find another place and he's gone, i'll stay there then.

If that's okay.

[Ren's next text has a link to Inanna's Shrine on Google Maps! And now that the formal part is over, he goes back to his usual style of texting.]

i'm glad you're fine!

as far as i'm concerned, you're welcome all the time. it's your home now too. but i didn't think you'd want to stay there if you were worried about being attacked all the time.

[ Oh, that's good. He'll probably start heading over there, he was kinda done with today.

And why is this guy this nice to him when the other just wanted him dead? ]

He's not the most friendly. Don't feel like getting in the way.

[ As much as Ren kept saying he was welcome, he felt like he was in between these two, it wasn't the greatest feeling of being welcomed. ]

oh he's getting in his own way. he doesn't deal well with surprises and it takes him a while to warm up to new things. he attacked me when we first met too. he'll calm down eventually.

[Of course, there isn't a whole lot of difference between Hibari's "calm" and "not calm," but at least when he's calmer, he's more likely to use insults than his fists.]

in the meantime, please don't be afraid to ask me for anything. i want to do what i can for both of you.

[ That doesn't sound as good as Ren probably wanted it to be. ]

hibari brought them home with him a while ago. he has a soft spot for cute animals. he's the one who brought home the kittens too.

[It's not like they can or would want to just get rid of them if they're a problem, but it's still a good thing to know.]

[ He shakes his head, before realizing that he reply via text instead. ]

[Oh good, at least they all have one thing in common.]

oh it's what i'm supposed to be responsible for, like wind or wisdom. Inanna was a goddess of war, love, and fertility so those are the domains i've taken over for her. (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و✧

[He's so glad Eric is halfway across the park and not right in front of him so he can sigh and make faces at his phone all he wants. He probably should have expected that, but that doesn't mean he has to like it.]

that's a matter of perspective. i can't imagine anything else i'd rather have.

[...Well, maybe darkness. Or games. But he'll rather just add those on than swap them.]

How can you be in charge of those anyway?

[Welp, have fun with that, Eric, because your god is still sitting on a bench with his knees tucked under his chin while he's doing this.]

i wouldn't say i'm "in charge". i'm not the only one who has them.

[At the very least, there's Bishamon around and he's pretty sure he's seen Aphrodite's name on the BBS and even Elsa had war as one of hers and they can't possibly be the only ones.]

anyway, i get a lot of people at my shrine wishing for luck in finding a partner or because their relationship is or isn't working out...things like that. and i've gotten a few gang members praying they win their fights...oh and some people hoping for a baby or that they won't kill their garden. and there's the ayakashi to deal with too.

most of them don't actually need me to do anything, but i've tried to help a few people.

[ He's probably close to the bench area but not much paying attention wise since well, he's looking at his phone. ]

What a waste, doing stuff like that. Spending time wishing could be spent trying to accomplish that wish. Doesn't seem to do much good.

most people do both! they're just hoping for some extra luck or to bolster their own confidence or to reassure themselves that they can keep going. action goes a long way, but you have to keep your morale up too.

[There is a waving emoji here...and a waving Ren over there, whether Eric looks up to see him or not.]

[ He jumps a bit and looks around, that didn't sound creepy at all. Finally he spots the waving hand but he doesn't stop looking. Ren looked alone but if that guy was still around he didn't feel like being around either.

With the coast looking clear, Eric slightly raises and lowers his hand and heads over. Though he's still plenty wary ]

Am I allowed to be in your presence or is your dog going to come after me again?

[Ren waves a little more when it's clear he's been spotted, and then goes back to cradling his phone on his feet and leaves his legs folded up in front of him.

At the mention of Hibari's little stunt, he can't quite keep himself from glancing to the side in irritation.]

If he tries that again, I'll just take him away again. Or you. But I don't think he will for a while.

Must come in handy, that power.

[ He takes a seat and actually sits the same as Ren, legs up and knees to his chin because well, it's a pretty comfy way of sitting. ]

If it's that much trouble, why work so hard to have us two as your shinki?

[ Wouldn't it be easier to get rid of one or the other? He seemed to be in the way since well, Hibari seemed a bit on the possessive side. ]

[Ren nods a little--heck yes it comes in handy, he loves being able to do that--and smiles behind his knees as Eric sits next to him in the same position. It nice to see he isn't the only one who likes sitting that way.

He's quiet for a while after Eric asks his question, mulling over all his reasons and possible answers. Because this is a good opportunity for Hibari to learn how to put up with something he doesn't like? Because he thinks both of them can be better people if given the chance? Because he's used to being part of team of more than just two people? Because Hibari so rarely around as it is that he's lonely? Because he admires both of their fighting skills? Because they're his responsibility until they ask not to be?]

Because I see a lot of potential in both of you and I want to be there to help you realize it.
