Maybe not desperate, but things that toy with their prey don't like having it taken away. [Even just the tone of Shun's voice expresses an unsettlingly deep familiarity with that concept, and without even realising it himself, his movements speed up just a fraction. His eyes are everywhere, calculating everything, a certain recurring single-mindedness returning to him - where are the escape routes, where are the signs of the enemy, how do they ensure they stay alive.

He hadn't been that far from the edges of the forest when he ran into Fubuki in the first place, and that had been at a far slower speed than this. While he has much more to spare for glancing back than Fubuki does, he can't see anything pursuing them, so maybe it's not too much to hope that they'll cross the borders of the forest before encountering whatever this is on its own turf. On his own, he might've chanced the fight, but he has another life to consider in this case.]
