we are in the story, back again [CLOSED]
Who: Yuri, Yuuri and Viktor
What: Bastet welcomes his shinki home
When: June 6, morning
Where: Bastet's temple
Summary: Everything is more complicated that Yuri wants to be, but at least he has aneyesore of a awesome temple
[The initial lecture about shinki had shaken Yuri a little. It shook him even more when he started to see familiar faces at the beach party. It wasn't like him to avoid a problem, but he was in over his head here and facing the situation head on could do actual harm, so what could he do? He'd managed to meet up with Viktor and Otabek without screwing up, but with as drunk as everyone was getting by the end, he hadn't even made eye contact with Katsudon until the last possible minute. It was just to pass on the message that Viktor and Yuuri were expected bright and early at the Temple of Bastet and if they were at all late or too hungover to function, they were going to get their asses kicked.
And that's where Yuri is waiting for the two of them right now, sitting on an outcropping of the outrageous, gaudy structure that he guesses he's now calling home and petting an actual leopard. An actual leopard. He must look freaking awesome right now. It helps take away some of the dread over how this mess is going to go when his shinki actually show up.]

He could only gaze in awe at the temple, falling completely in love with the architecture! Such an unusual style, but he was completely enamored with it.
And when he saw Yuri on the outcropping petting a leopard, of all things, his grin just got bigger.
"Good morning! Should I bow?"
Hey. He didn't know how this worked, okay. Give him a break.
Also, he wants to pet the kitty. Very much.

[Well, besides Bastet and the leopard. (Oh, god, there's a leopard. When Hakkai mentioned cats, he thought he'd just meant cute little housecats...) Maybe it shouldn't surprise him that he'd seen the other shinki yesterday, since everyone did seem to be at the beach, but it IS a little surprising that of all the people he talked to yesterday, it's the one who he's pretty sure was flirting with him the whole time that he runs into here. That's not embarrassing at all or anything...]
[For his part, at least, Yuuri isn't hung over in the slightest. He'd nursed a single drink that was more pineapple juice than anything, for a while, but as anxious as he'd been half the day, his stomach felt too upset for him to want to drink heavily and make himsef sick. He's thankful for it now, in a way, because he isn't sure how he'd know what to make of the temple's bizarre design if he was half-drunk and aching and dizzy. He's a little confused by it now, frankly, but not enough to get sidetracked by it. (He's a little sidetracked by the leopard. Is it going to eat his face off? Probably, with the luck he is beginning to suspect he has.)]
G... Good morning.
[He doesn't ask about the bowing, he just does it, bending low at the waist, sort of wondering if maybe he should throw himself on the floor or something. He IS meeting a god, after all. A god with a potentially face-eating leopard.]

Yuri takes a deep breath to steady himself and hops down to the ground. He probably would have worried about breaking a leg or at least spraining an ankle before, but not only can he pull this off now without hurting himself, he wouldn't have to worry about his upcoming competition schedule even if he did.
He shoves his hands in his pockets and glowers at Yuuri and Viktor. It's about as friendly a greeting as he ever gives them, really. They might as well get used to it again.]
Morning.
[He has an amazing ability to make that sound like an insult somehow.]
You both got the explanation of what your job is, right? I'm not gonna repeat it. Just know that you're my shinki now.
[He draws himself up to his (not terribly impressive height) and stares them down.]
Professionally, people are gonna call me "Bastet," I guess, but my name is Yuri Plisetsky. Come up with a stupid nickname and I'll kick your ass. I know your names already, so we don't need to make a big deal about it, but I've gotta give you your vessel names to make this official.
[So one of you pick who's going first so he can get this over with.]
Just going to assume Viktor knows Yuuri's name since their thread is leading up to it
Yep. Viktor volunteers.
"Could it have something to do with how handsome I am?"
He wasn't asking for vanity reasons, of course. He just knew so little about himself! But he'd seen his reflection and it was better than he'd expected, so why not?
"Yuri - oh!"
It was an exclamation of surprise, not meant to come out like Yurio. Except that it did anyway. Viktor, however, had turned his attention to the Yuuri he'd met last night, smile softening when it turned his way.
"This should be fun! But you pronounce the r sound a little more softly, right?"
Sorry, Yuri, he's absolutely smitten. Already. Who'd have guessed?
/thumbs up
Really? That's what you're concerned about?
[Not that you're not handsome, Viktor, but how is that among your priorities right now??]
[Yuri's name catches him by surprise, though. He blinks at him, surprise apparent on his features, and doesn't manage to react until Viktor's already said something.]
Um... s-something like that, I think, yes? Or... something about the vowels is a little different, I guess...
[At least they don't look the same or act very much the same, from what he can tell. That should clear up some potential confusion.]
[He looks at Yuri again, shaking his head and drawing his attention back to the topic at hand.]
Whenever you're ready, I am.
[It sounds more confident than he feels. (Good.)]
no subject
And since Viktor is being an idiot, he looks pointedly away from him and directs his attention to Yuuri instead.]
Fine.
[He takes a breath and tries to remember the ritual phrasing. He spent a lot of time last night agonizing over names and, while they aren't exactly complimentary, they're certainly fitting. After a few stumbles over the fancy words, he pronounces Yuuri to be "Donki" and waits for the result.
The result is a pair of glasses and a nice clear picture of how Yuuri died.
Neither of these are things he wants.]
Are you fucking serious?
[He looks down at Yuuri's vessel form like it personally offends him. It's almost enough to counteract the pain in his chest over having to see a fr-- an acquaintance die.]
no subject
[Then quite suddenly, he doesn't have hips anymore, he's got a frame and lenses and...]
[He can feel Yuri holding him in his hands, and even though he doesn't physically have eyes right now, can see how... disappointed he looks. So the first thing Yuri's going to feel through that newly minted god-shinki bond is embarrassment that borders on outright guilt.]
[Of course he wouldn't be something useful. It figures.]
I'm... I'm sorry?
no subject
I guess it could be worse.
[It feels beyond weird to try the glasses on, but at least they fit. He doesn't really know how to apologize or make things better, but at least he can make a show of putting the glasses to use. He keeps his voice low, confidential.]
Probably more useful than whatever that idiot is.
[He can only imagine how Viktor is going to end up. Probably something he can't even take out in public.]
no subject
That's not very fair. He's... um.... Well, he's certainly a little vain, but he was very helpful when I couldn't find my glasses yesterday. I'm sure he'll be something at least a little more useful than me.
[He pauses a moment, then adds:]
I think there's... something I can do, at least, now that I'm like this. Would you mind if I tried it...?
no subject
[He can't help but feel a little excited about that. After all, he's supposed to get cool powers out of this deal, right? It feels kind of like a small consolation at the moment, but at least it's something to take his mind off of dealing with Viktor when he's done with Katsudon.
Viktor is probably vibrating with excitement by now. He can wait.]
no subject
Because it was super amazing. It really, really was. If this was what being dead and in the service of a god with a leopard and a gorgeous temple was like, please sign him up!
no subject
[Yuuri takes a moment to figure out what exactly his instinct is even trying to suggest he do, and then...]
[Then he makes Yuri spellbinding.]
[Nothing changes, not physically. But all of a sudden, Yuri Plisetsky is undeniably the most fascinating thing that has ever existed. There's a tangible sense around him of energy, of an indefinable power, of a hypnotic sort of magnetism.]
[It's impossible to take your eyes off of him. It's impossible not to hang on his every word, on his every motion.]
...Did it work?
no subject
Something happened.
[Nothing immediately noticeable, but something where he can feel the potential almost burning under his skin. How incredibly appropriate, considering where the power came from.]
I think it needs someone to use it on.
[He looks over at Viktor, who's still jumping up and down like a moron, and sighs.]
Someone who could actually explain what happened.
[So not Viktor. Who he's going to have to repeat this whole process with.]
WOULD YOU KNOCK IT OFF, YOU IDIOT?! Get over here so I can get this shit over with.
[He leaves the glasses on. He doesn't want to think too hard about why.]
this icon is hilariously perfect for this
Viktor stopped jumping immediately and walked over, completely unable to disobey or to take his eyes off his god. Or the glasses themselves. Was that what this was? Sure, the whole thing was incredible, but he couldn't make himself stop looking and feeling completely mesmerized. He liked the feeling. Quite a bit.
He decided not to focus on it too much and to simply obey, not even blinking as he made his way in front of Yuri.
"Sorry," he said in close to a whisper, finally taking his eyes off Yuri to hang his head in something close to shame.
no subject
If he still needed proof that Viktor had lost his memory, that would do it right there.]
Whatever.
[He takes a deep breath and lets it out before beginning the ritual a second time. It isn't any easier than the first time. He manages to keep his voice steady when he proclaims Viktor to be "Funki," but it's almost completely impossible to keep his calm when the visions flash through his head and he sees how Viktor died. It's awful, it's heartbreaking, but at the same time, it's almost Final Destination levels of absurd and he wants to scream his head off at him about it. To ask how the hell he could let that happen.
But he can't. He can only hold it in and wait and see just what Viktor's vessel form is.
And when he does...it really doesn't help the need to scream his head off.
Viktor, are you for fucking real?]
I'm putting you in a freaking box and mailing you back.
no subject
He was a medal. A gold one, and for some reason he could still see and hear? He had no idea what was happening but this was undoubtedly amazing.
Yuri's reaction hadn't been the best, but from the very little Viktor knew about him that seemed like the usual way he reacted to things. Still, he tried to communicate through the newly formed bond anyway.
That bad? I think it looks pretty great! And now you can say you're a gold medalist!
That whole lack of memories thing is really...not the best thing in the universe right now. He'd be sorry if he knew to be, he really would. But instead...
I'm not sure it'll be as amazing as Yuuri's, but I feel like I can do something too? If you hold me up above your head a little. Just make sure you have me high enough!
Because hitting your god in the face when you start spinning and pulling him off the ground would probably be bad for everyone.
no subject
[His pride can't allow him to keep that one in. After all, he can talk about himself as long as neither of these idiots figure out that he knew them before. And Viktor better not get any ideas about being a freaking gold medal.
Yuri does, at least, hold the medal up over his head like instructed. This had better be good.]
Well?
no subject
Congratulations, Yuri, you have your shinki's approval. For whatever that's worth. Probably nothing, but hey.
Hmmm, let me see...I think if you spin me around a little, it might work? I'm not too sure, never done this before!
But there was only one way to find out, right?
no subject
So what's supposed to happen?
no subject
After a moment or two of intense concentration, Viktor felt the wind start to pick up and a second later, Yuri was standing in the middle of a tornado. It was extremely powerful, but not a hair on Yuri's head was disturbed by the force of the wind.
And no, Viktor wasn't dizzy! Instead all he felt was undeniably good. He could feel himself spinning, but the sensation was...sort of detached? He'd probably tell Yuri about it soon, knowing him, but for now...
Really hold on, okay? I feel like I can do something more fun!
And with that, he lifted Yuri a couple feet into the air. It didn't seem like holding on meant much, and Viktor was fairly sure he could control it if he needed to, but still. Safety first!
no subject
Okay, so you're not completely useless.
[That's as much as he's willing to admit.]
Now knock it off.
[He waits until they've returned to the ground to return Viktor to his human form. He takes the glasses off after that and returns Yuuri as well.]
Well, that's over with.
[He hopes he doesn't sound too relieved about that...]
