Who: Everyone!
What: Training
When: Morning June 16
Where: Bishamon's temple
Summary: Training sessions for everyone to learn more about their abilities and jobs!

Many people have been wanting to know more about their abilities and what they are required to do here in the Far Shore. So, in conjunction with Bishamonten, the Heavens have seen fit to offer an open training session for everyone to participate in. Here you will be able to learn anything and everything about what you should be able to do and what is expected of you in your new positions.

Bishamon's temple is sweeping and gorgeous, having previously been home to hundreds of shinki. She has graciously offered to hold this training session and will be available to help anyone who needs it.

Equipment

Various kinds of mannequins and dummies have been provided for practice, as well as targets that are either stationary or move, depending on your will. Punching bags, jumping blocks, and a large pool area have also been provided for your use, so that you can find a tool for pretty much anything that you might need to practice. Plenty of practice weapons of various weights, sizes, and shapes are also available upon request from any of the many white-clad shinki that are also attending today.

God Training

Bishamon herself will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of you. It is also encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Shinki Training

Various shinki are available to help with shinki training, including Kazuma and all of Bishamon's shinki. Additionally, the white-clad shinki will be more than happy to train you on using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is also encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Refreshments

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're even just taking a quick break to cool down. The Heavens want you to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Use the state of the art equipment
  • Learn about your job
  • Form groups to practice
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

Well, Davesprite has to give this guy credit for rolling with the joke, because that's surprisingly rare here in his experience. As for the compliment, he hesitates very briefly as if unused to the sentiment, before brushing it off and smoothing it over with the shadow of a casual smile.

"Yeah, guess that's true enough. If you're still getting to know that thing, I can show you the ropes before we go full mano a mano, or if you want to just jump straight in I can do that too. Just don't want to go full bore on a newbie, I'm not your standard sword partner for more than the obvious reasons."

He's just going to roll with sword partner now, because on closer inspection, Davesprite is very sure he and this guy aren't remotely in the same age group and it kind of messes with the joke on his end. Not that the guy looks bad regardless, but Davesprite shunts that thought out of his mind basically as soon as it gets there.

One of the things Viktor was good at was rolling with jokes. It was one of his most longstanding character traits, actually, so this situation simply rolled off his back. He definitely wouldn't pursue it, though. A sword partner was more than enough for him at the moment, and should he learn of the age difference...well. He would definitely need to rethink his life choices and his ability to work with jokes.

"I'd really appreciate you showing me the ropes. I don't even know how to hold this thing properly."

Which should have been obvious, since his grip on the hilt was shaky at best.

It's probably telling enough that Davesprite doesn't look at all surprised that Viktor doesn't know how to hold the sword properly, because basically as soon as he laid eyes on that sword grip, it was pretty clear. Rather than keeping the sword in one hand as he has been, Davesprite moves his own into a proper two-handed grip, turning his hands a little so he can show Viktor from a few angles.

"It's not that hard once you're used to it, it's just getting used to it that's kind of a motherfucker. When you're in the middle of a fight, you want to be able to go straight to this grip, not spend time your opponent might be trying to stab you correcting it."

For all the seriousness that statement should have, Davesprite sounds awfully casual.

"That makes sense! Thanks!"

And with that, he did his best to correct the grip, casting glances at Davesprite to check that he was holding the sword correctly. It was certainly different, but he thought he could probably get used to it the more he practiced.

Well, if Davesprite's giving this guy anything, he has to admit he's pretty fast on the uptake. And also not fucking around about this, which is always helpful when so many people here don't seem to take even the things that warrant being taken seriously that seriously.

"Yeah, that's a fuckload better than what you had before. You want to be able to strike from as many angles as you can without sacrificing the integrity of your grip."

To demonstrate, Davesprite does a few slow strikes into the air, first bringing the sword down from above, then upwards in a diagonal motion, both using the same grip.

Oh, Viktor was always keen to learn new things. This whole shinki business fascinated him, and weapons seemed to be a sort of art form in themselves! Aesthetics were important to him, after all.

"Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Better to be more effective than less, and all that." Viktor smiled and copied the movements as best he could, finding the sword a lot easier to hold onto now.

Mostly, Davesprite's just thankful to have someone asking to learn about how to use a sword who doesn't seem ready to decide they're good at it now and start flailing it about at a moment's notice. On the other hand, that means he's somewhat settling in for the long haul explanations-wise, and he looks around briefly before spotting a free practice dummy and hooking it over in their direction with his lengthy tail.

"Pretty much. It's fucking spectacular how many people are willing to sacrifice actual skill for looking cool, and by spectacular I mean depressing. Anyway, before you jump to sparring with someone you should probably get an idea of your strikes on a practice target like this thing. Turns into a bit of a shitshow if your opponent has their head around basic offense and you wouldn't know a block from your left testicle."

Pfffft. Viktor had never even held one before, so how could he possibly be good at it yet? That was the entire point of learning, after all!

"That sounds sensible! And I really hope I can learn that distinction fast. Sounds rather painful if I don't."

Oh yes, he can humor. Sometimes. Maybe. A little.

But he took the stance that felt most natural and faced the dummy, glancing over for critique.

"Yeah, the thing about one of those options is you can't redo it if it gets hit with a sword."

Davesprite goes along with the train of humour, but also moves to inspect Viktor's stance rather critically, taking a brief moment to levitate and swoop around him to get all angles.

"You're good on most of it, just maybe widen your stance a little."
