Summary: Training sessions for everyone to learn more about their abilities and jobs!

Many people have been wanting to know more about their abilities and what they are required to do here in the Far Shore. So, in conjunction with Bishamonten, the Heavens have seen fit to offer an open training session for everyone to participate in. Here you will be able to learn anything and everything about what you should be able to do and what is expected of you in your new positions.

Bishamon's temple is sweeping and gorgeous, having previously been home to hundreds of shinki. She has graciously offered to hold this training session and will be available to help anyone who needs it.

Equipment

Various kinds of mannequins and dummies have been provided for practice, as well as targets that are either stationary or move, depending on your will. Punching bags, jumping blocks, and a large pool area have also been provided for your use, so that you can find a tool for pretty much anything that you might need to practice. Plenty of practice weapons of various weights, sizes, and shapes are also available upon request from any of the many white-clad shinki that are also attending today.

God Training

Bishamon herself will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of you. It is also encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Shinki Training

Various shinki are available to help with shinki training, including Kazuma and all of Bishamon's shinki. Additionally, the white-clad shinki will be more than happy to train you on using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is also encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies. Random groupings can be provided by the mods or you may come up with your own groupings together.

Refreshments

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're even just taking a quick break to cool down. The Heavens want you to stay in good condition!

[Hakkai's eyes narrow; the borderline strains under the force of the blow, but holds. His posture has gone still, his face draining of expression as he focuses on the play of energy against blade. He could keep it intact against that attack, he suspects, for a while. If he had to.]

Will this damage your sword?

I don't know. Guess it's better to find out now than in the middle of a fight.

[There's an uncharacteristic seriousness to his tone there that hints towards the manner in which he's actually taking this training. Normally, he tries to keep a certain casual element to these situations as well, but for some reason he's finding it more and more difficult as he focuses himself further, and he looses another harsh slash at the surface of the borderline.]

Much. [Hakkai's gaze stays even, locked on Davesprite's face as he braces against the next slash. It's hard holding the barrier against attack, he reflects, but it's not exactly an expenditure of energy. It's more the effort of maintaining the correct mindset, to force Davesprite to stay on the other side of the barrier.

It could grow difficult. But fearing your enemy, he supposes, would help.]

[As prone as he is to outbursts of rambling, Davesprite also has no trouble maintaining the silence and focus of the fight. Though it's impossible to tell where he's looking under his shades, they're on the right level to be matching that stare from Hakkai.

Again, he brings his sword in for a strike of a different angle - this one is a stab rather than a slash, just to change things up and see how the borderline handles it.]

[The sharp tip of the katana sinks into the borderline in a glitter of off-white sparks, and Hakkai moves reflexively: avoid the line of the blade, reach for the wrist--

His borderline vanishes as he reaches out, and he stops himself, straightening up with a mild, embarrassed cough.]

Ah -- I'll have to be careful of that.

[As someone who's had weird moments like that himself, Davesprite can recognise an instinctive motion when he sees one, especially given how Hakkai has to stop himself after breaking his own borderline. As Hakkai straightens up, Davesprite lowers his sword, and eventually just sheathes it for the moment to save himself the awkwardness.]

Yeah, instinct's a bitch. Don't know how many times I've had to mentally talk myself out of flashstepping away from getting jump-hugged out of nowhere or some shit.

Hajime?

[Jump hugs are the absolute worst and Hakkai's just glad he hasn't broken anyone's arm while startled yet. He sighs with a longsuffering air.]

I suppose I shouldn't complain. It'd be much more troublesome if we'd lost all of our reflexes, too, but it's so hard to guess what they are....

Hajime. [Davesprite figures he doesn't really need to say more than that, and his tone is somewhere between fond and long-suffering. Hajime is great and all, but she doesn't have much of a sense of personal space or anything associated with it.]

Relearning this shit would be worse, yeah, but it's the kind of thing that gets some people thinking a bit too much about things we shouldn't be thinking about.

It's hard to avoid those kinds of thoughts sometimes.

[Hakkai lets out a breath, and adds, a little wryly:] Maybe because we're still too close to our past lives. If this were truly a new start, I think it would be easier.

[Hakkai definitely has a point there, and Davesprite nods slowly.] Does not fucking help that on top of the random memory lottery, there's the chance you might run into someone with the same weird shit you have or some other thing you recognise but don't remember why and you get that feeling stopping you asking all the sticky questions.

[Case in point, that dude he met once who then disappeared who was definitely some kind of nonhuman species Davesprite recognised, for reasons he still doesn't want to think about.]

Mm.

[And then there are people who seem to know you better than they should -- but that's not something Hakkai dares to investigate, either.

It's not as if any of them are left, and the only person with details about her he recognizes any longer is a Sanzo priest.

He quirks a faint smile at Davesprite.]

I suppose it's simply something we'll have to learn to handle, considering the alternative.

[Davesprite really isn't sure whether he should consider himself lucky or not that the one guy he'd had that issue with disappeared before they had the chance to go deeper. Maybe it's just something about the evidence of having had a past life at all.

The alternative is undoubtedly far worse, though, even without the niggling feeling that says so without his intervention. So he just nods slightly along with what Hakkai's saying, figuring getting too deep down the rabbit hole with this conversation is a bad idea for both of them.]

Yeah, I'm not real interested in seeing what kind of modern art-tier bullshit turning into a monster would do for me. Though they wouldn't have that much work to do on the features.

Maybe a beak?

[He appears to be taking this absolutely seriously, turning his own hand over front to back and examining it with a thoughtful air.]

I'd hope for some kind of shambling, man-eating plant for myself.

[He does have that vine theme going, after all.]

[Well, this conversation definitely took a turn. It isn't, however, a turn that particularly bothers Davesprite, given the extent of fucks he gives about his own wellbeing largely extends to how him turning into something awful would affect Hajime, and he flicks his wings a little as he leans back, as if pondering the notion at length.]

I dunno, if we were going beak we could just go full birdface. Maybe make things a bit bigger too, go for some kind of shapeless but vaguely avian blob for added mystery.

Man-eating plant sounds good though, could raise some fine fucking hell with the right setup.

Maybe some extra talons, or a few more sets of wings....

[All in bloody-sunset orange and purple! Hakkai smiles cheerfully at the comment about man-eating plants.]

Yes, it's very black-and-white B horror flick, isn't it?

[Bad dreams and streaming phone video are a great combination. They've been doing wonders for his pop culture references.]

[...This is actually sounding cooler and cooler the more they go down this road. Why can't more people be down for Ayakashi Design 101: original character do not steal.]

Damn, if I came out looking that badass that'd be one actual good thing to come out of completely losing my shit.

[And Hakkai has definitely found the right person to be talking pop culture references about, because Davesprite gives a very faint smile at that comment.]

As long as you don't start yelling "feed me, Seymour" every five seconds. There's a line you have to draw in the sand when you start flirting with B horror territory.

It would be impressive!

[Very "toxic seraphim," really. Hakkai laughs merrily.]

Seymour... oh my, I don't think I've seen that one.

[Well, if Hakkai is catching up on his B horror and hasn't run into that one yet, Davesprite has some suggestions to make, and he claps his hands together to point two talons at Hakkai.]

Little Shop of Horrors. It's all about a sassy man-eating plant starting shit with its handler, so I don't know, maybe it's relatable to plant people.

[Or plant shinki people. Davesprite doesn't know how Hakkai gets on with his god nowadays, since the face tattoo probably means he doesn't have the drunk one anymore.]

[Hakkai laughs merrily.]

It sounds very relatable! Thank you. I'll have to look it up.

If you have any other recommendations...?

[He trails off, hopefully, and raises his eyebrows.]

[Score. If there's one thing Davesprite tends to consider an achievement, it's getting people into cult classic movies with a better lure than "ok but you should watch this thing because I said so".

As such, when Hakkai asks for more reccomendations, Davesprite lets out a long breath like they could be here all day with this tangent.]

I'd rather not keep you until the sun consumes us all in a hellfire supernova, so I can send you a list sometime if you want. I'm pretty into that sort of shit, so if you're up for both classics and classically fucking garbage movies you're probably gonna have no shortage of recs for the foreseeable future.

[Though, what other plant shit does he have off the top of his head...] For now, though, if you're looking for more of your plant brethren: Day of the Triffids, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...Invasion of the Body Snatchers too, I guess, though that's kind of a mix of plants and generic alien invasion fuckery.

[Don't mind Hakkai tapping earnestly away in his list app while you mention each of these, Davesprite, he's working on a to-watch list.

He stows his phone as Davesprite finishes, and flashes him a quick smile.]

Do send me that list sometime! It'll be nice to have something to watch, until supernova day, of course.

[Since they... don't age anymore, being dead.

[Davesprite definitely doesn't mind, especially given he can low-key be on his phone during just about any conversation given there's one built into his shades. Since Hakkai definitely seems down for the idea of getting a list sometime, though, Davesprite gives him a chill thumbs-up at the request.]

Noted. I'll probably have to do some digging, see what the classics and cult classics are like in this world, but I will get you the shit out of that list. Probably even long enough before supernova day for you to watch most of it.

[Maybe. Depends when their theoretical supernova day is.]

[Hakkai laughs cheerfully, and glances back at the training dummies scattered about.]

... Well, I should get a bit more practice in before I head back home. It's very nice talking to you.

[It's hard to tell exactly how seriously Davesprite might be taking the possibility of supernova day, but then, that's kind of the point.

With a slight nod, Davesprite runs a talon over the handle of his sword.]

Yeah, should probably be finding more unprepared souls to swing sharp objects at. Thanks for the help. [Well. "Help". It got a bit dicey, but it still worked.]
