[ Why did she suddenly feel like she was standing on a precipice? Staring at Allen as he asked that question, such a simple one at that, her smile fell away, shifting. In that moment, she looked positively struck, not expecting him to say something like that so plainly. Like it was such a natural sort of thing.

It was strange, how her mind seemed to try to come up with endless reasons of why it couldn't be that simple, but each time was left with nothing. No real reason with any sort of logic or substance; maybe in a lifetime long past, a world away that she couldn't remember and wondered... if there was much point sometimes, when all it did was create difficult situations like this that hardly made sense:
