Hakkai didn't have to smell Gojyo's fear. It was painfully obvious in the way his anger drained from his face and the caution of his retreating step.

He'd been planning to scare Gojyo away, he told himself, and mercilessly squashed the hurt of being stared at with genuine fear. He crossed his arms rather than pursuing, letting his mouth fall into a flat, unwelcoming line.
