With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

NOTE: Please report any wishes your characters answers to the first comment on this post along with a link to where the wish is answered. There will be small bonuses awarded for answered wishes.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

[A man who looks quite formal and regal is walking along the stalls now, slowly looking them over. Wondering what to eat, what to play, and what to drink (bourbon, by the way, if it's available). Fingers stroking his chin. He absolutely looks out of place, and it's the one time Niles refused to wear a yukata for the sake of wearing something much fancier.

When he meets up with a familiar (or unfamiliar) face, he turns to face them with a chuckle and a smile.]

Hello there. I was wondering if you could accompany me.

The Bridge | OTA

[Niles stands at one end of the bridge, still in his regal outfit, and waits until someone appeasing walks by. He bows his head towards them, and holds out his hand.]

Would you like to escort me? I heard something special happens when two people walk across the bridge.

[Oh, he's been watching. And he wants to see exactly what he'll experience when walking across it. So you better be ready for a very affectionate man.]

The Bridge | Closed To Zoro

[Niles has changed out of his outfit that he used for fun and torment, and is instead in a yukata, one of the ones he's worn around Zoro. He meets up with his man with two cups of sake at one side of the bridge.]

Surprised you didn't get lost.

[He hands one cup to him and takes a sip of his own so Zoro can't steal it (he knows the man will).]

Come. The night is almost done. Let's spend it together.

[ You just happen to be in the way. And yes, he knows who is hiding under that mask. He's had enough experience with Niles that he just knows when it's him. ]

[A: Stalls]

[It's been several years since Shun's had the opportunity to celebrate Tanabata, and though there's still a small part of him that can't help but feel selfish for having this opportunity when everything at home is still devastated, this time, he decides he's actually going to make the attempt to enjoy it. A lot of the people he's close to here seem to think it's important, and though he isn't nearly as doubtful of his own ability to work all the time as they seem to be, if this is happening anyway, he might as well try it.

Since he visited Orihime last night, he actually has a suitable outfit for the occasion - a dark blue yukata with a yellow obi and feather patterns in the same colour. It's not quite as reserved as Shun would have liked, but he's obviously satisfied enough with it to wear it, and it at least serves one function he needs out of it - his lighter and bottle of shrine water fit in the little carry bag he has with him, and his dagger is tucked into his belt, but hidden under the garment. After the last festival they had and what it ended in, Shun's definitely carrying his usual air of wariness even if he is trying to take part in the proceedings.

Taking part doesn't mean he actually knows what he's doing, though, and it's not particularly difficult to find him at a few of the stalls, peering at certain foods or items like he's trying to remember if he's familiar with them or not. There's definitely a few he feels like he should recognise and kind of does, but those years of separation mean he can't quite put names or even ingredients to some of them, and after a few moments of staring, he sighs quietly.]

Pointless. [Despite how easy it might be to mistake him for meaning the festivities in general given his usual attitude, he actually means attempting to figure all this out in the duration of the festival. Good luck picking that out, though.]

[B: Wishes]

[Though Shun generally believes you shouldn't make wishes you can't act on yourself, because otherwise it's pointless and never going to happen anyway, there are at least a few things he can think of that fall under that banner. And though he doesn't quite see the appeal in writing down wishes and hanging them up for all to see, he might as well try it this once if he's resigned himself to being involved in this.

After a moment or two of looking at the paper strip, Shun seems to settle on which wish means the most to him, and is most worth including in a tradition like this. What he writes, however is very short - his handwriting is messy in the way of someone who hasn't written regularly in a very long time, but still entirely legible, and those who look over at the right time may be able to pick out the word that's been written down:

"Peace."

However, don't expect to get away with looking and not be caught, because as soon as Shun finishes and starts tying the paper to the tree, he glances over sharply.]

What are you looking at?

[C: The Bridge]

[Since the bridge is at a very central location to the festival, Shun finds himself coming back to where it runs into the street occasionally to reorient himself. The amount of noise and the amount of people are both doing a number on his ability to focus, and while this doesn't get him away from either of those things, it does give him somewhere he can be certain he hasn't lost his way to start back from.

As it gets later in the night and things start to get a little quieter, it gets a bit easier to stay around the bridge, and Shun ends up leaning on it for a little while, watching the festival go by. But he is a little curious about how true the legends of it are in a world like this, where so many myths seem to exist in reality, and before long, he's turned around to look along the arc of the bridge, trying to pinpoint where it ends.

As such, he's somewhat distracted, and that combined with the general noise of the festival means anyone wanting to approach him might get a foot or two closer than usual before he notices them.]

[It's hard to sneak up on anyone while wearing geta, much less someone like Shun, but that doesn't mean Ren isn't going to try. Doing something silly like that always makes him feel a little better, for one thing, and he could definitely use that right now.

So not long after the distinctive clacks stop just behind Shun, Ren leans around him to get a better look at the bridge and also smile up at Shun's face (although not quite as brightly as might be expected given the party going on).]

It's really beautiful, isn't it? Those birds have been working really hard.

Stalls

[ It's been so long since Yona's gotten to attend a festival that she almost can't recall the last time. And the ones she'd been to had been nothing like this. After having lent a helping hand to Orihime beforehand, she arrives at today's festivities in a brand new outfit gifted to her by the goddess. It's a gift she treasures and will be careful of throughout the entire event.

But the festival itself is something of a fascination for her and she'll wander among the stalls and games, sampling food and browsing wares and pretty much drinking in the sights and sounds and experiences to be found here. She's got the wide-eyed awe of a person who's never seen such a celebration before and, in a way, she hasn't - not quite like this. It's obvious she's enjoying every moment of it from the bright smile on her face and laughter that seems to come so easily.

Feel free to bump into her as she explores or notice her when something new and strange has caught her eye or as she ponders which food to try next (or what, for that matter, it might actually be.) ]

Wishes

[ The tradition of writing down a wish or a prayer on the brightly-colored slips of paper pull at Yona and she spends some time browsing them, reading to see if there are any that catch her eye or that she might easily be able to fulfil, since she is here as a goddess.

But when she thinks no one is watching her, she might take a slip of paper of her own and scribble down a prayer to tuck it amongst the others, even though she's not sure there's any god here who could answer it for her.

The paper, tucked in amongst hundreds of others, simply reads: Please keep my loved ones who are far away safe. ]

The Bridge

[ While Yona hadn't come to the Bridge with any intention of crossing it herself, she can still be found lurking nearby a little before the appointed time when Orihime is supposed to cross to finally reunite with her lover. Having met the goddess herself, she feels far more invested in seeing this particular meeting play out and she lingers nearby in anticipation, hoping that nothing spoils the long-awaited reunion for the other goddess who had put so much work into everything here. ]

[Tsuna is also at the stalls. There's a lot of food he's familiar with back home, but there are also new variants he hasn't seen at home. He notices that Yona is eying one of the weird combinations. This particular stand has the usual taiyaki with standard filings: red bean paste, custard or chocolate. However it seems that stand is taking a step forward with taiyaki ice cream. It looks really tasty and interesting!]

T-that looks really good! I would never think to put ice cream inside.

[A: Stalls]

[Having stalls that are run by shinki instead of by Near Shore residents means Davesprite can actually shop at them, and while he's not exactly breaking the bank, he's definitely picking up some of the festival food he hasn't had the chance to try yet. This entire holiday isn't a familiar one to him, and even though he's changed his shirt for the occasion - instead wearing a somewhat samurai-inspired formal shirt made for him by Forrest, with a sling to hold the sword that comes out of his stomach and space for his wings - he doesn't really get what it's all for. Still, that's no excuse not to enjoy himself.

Since he isn't working with the hugest budget, though, he's having to pick and choose between certain foods, and he looks down at a tray of sweet items with all the apparent gravity and seriousness of someone deciding a prison sentence.]

Damn, if all the choices are this hard I'm gonna be here all night.

[B: The Bridge]

[Davesprite isn't so much walking the bridge as flying the bridge. Or, more accurately, drifting over it at random intervals. People who've chosen to go up it alone stand a chance of having him glide by in front of them, waving a hand casually in greeting before swivelling his tail to make himself glide in another direction.]

Yeah, if there's one thing I don't think having legs would improve, it's walking up shit. I'm prepared to offer any condolences you need.

not that he's complaining because he got to enjoy some delicious food that way but there's still so much more he wants to try.

[A) Stalls]

[It's one of the few times Corrin isn't in her armor. Well, it is a festival, she doubts something would happen during a festival. It's probably best for her to enjoy it, it would be a shame not to when she's in such a pretty outfit. It reminds her of the outfits she used to see in Hoshido even if it takes her some time to walk in her sandals without tripping a little. Corrin manages to make it to the stalls to grab some food and find a bench to sit on before she trips. She would probably cry if she dropped any of the food in her hand. She places the small pile next to her and picks up her candied apple first.

Now that she has food which game will she play first? She'll decided while she's enjoying her food.]

[B)Performance]

[ When Corrin finally gets the hang of walking in her yukata without tripping as much as she did earlier, she walks around to see what else is at the festival. She stops when she sees the stage and makes a bee line over to it. She loves music! She can't wait to see who's going to perform. She really hopes she can make it there without tripping or bumping into someone. If she bumps into you, she's really sorry!]

[C) The Bridge]

[Corrin walks over to the bridge and stares at it for a bit. She remembers reading about the bridge in one of the books at the palace of Hoshido. She never thought she would see it in person. It's so beautiful up close, maybe she can walk on it a little bit. Corrin starts to walk on the bridge when a little piece of information she read comes back to mind. Wait, in the story the bridge was meant for the lovers! Oh, this would be something for lovers to do!

Corrin slowly turns around so she can go back towards the stalls again. It wouldn't be right for her to walk on something meant for lovers. However, if someone wanted to walk along the bridge with her, she wouldn't have the heart to turn them down. They're supposed to have fun at a festival right? A little walk on the bridge wouldn't be too bad.]

[Leo's not really paying much attention to his surroundings as he dodges the crowds to find Aymeric (he has bourbon to drink), but it's hard to ignore long white hair like that. Without even thinking he calls--]

Stalls

[ Despite the moods some people have encountered Yata in at previous social gatherings, he shows up for the festival in high spirits and looking forward to trying everything. He even sorta dressed up for the occasion, and while he hadn't gone all out, an attempt had at least been made.

He can be found for most of the festival sampling all the food he can find and trying his hand at the games. Quite energetically, in fact, because Yata's competitive at the best of times so this keeps him occupied much longer than anything else. For the ones he is really good at, he ends up with several plush toys and prizes - none of which had been the point of him playing and now he's not sure what to do with them.

Which is why he looks for the closest person around him before unceremoniously shoving one of the prizes into their hands. ]

Here! You can have this.

Wishes

[ If anyone asked him, Yata would probably dismiss the notion of writing wishes and prayers on these slips of paper as a ridiculous tradition, but he's wandering through the bamboo shoots curiously anyway, munching o a candy apple as he does so. Occasionally, he'll carefully reach out and glance over a nearby slip of paper, idly keeping an eye out for anything that might call to his goddess.

And then deciding what the hell, what could it hurt? He scribbles down a pair of wishes for himself, hanging them up with nimble fingers.

"I want to be a good shinki," and, after a long moment of hesitation, he hesitantly adds a second. "If I left anyone behind, look after them for me? And let them know I'm sorry." ]

[Fushimi just sort of stares at the big purple plush monkey shoved into his hands by this weird redhead.

He then tries to hand it back]

[A: Performance]

[Given her fondness for musical performance, Maria spends quite a bit of time at the festival unobtrusively watching the stage. She's decided to go with formal clothing appropriate to the occasion, and is wearing a yukata in pale blue with pink and white flowers and a pink obi, her hair tied into a large bun rather than the usual swirls she wears it in. While she could ask for a performance herself, for tonight, she'll leave the stage to those who came more prepared - after all, Sparkle Motion are already planning for Obon, so she has that to look forward to.

After a particularly impressive performance, Maria applauds loudly with the rest of the crowd, and leans over a little to anyone who happens to be in the audience with her.]

They've brought out some very talented people tonight, haven't they? [There's a fondness to her voice as she says that, like she'd love to be able to see where they go from here.]

[B: Wishes]

[Since Maria's never celebrated Tanabata before this, she didn't come prepared with wish ideas, and she honestly has no real thoughts on what to wish for. Staring blankly at the paper like this makes her feel a little stupid, like she should know better what she wants, but there are a few other indecisive people dotted around that put her a bit more at ease about it.

Still, the longer she waits, the more awkward she feels about taking up the space, and before too long, she shakes her head a little and smiles over at anyone waiting on writing down wishes.]

Did you want to go first? I'm having trouble coming up with anything.

[C: The Bridge]

[Seeing the bridge come right down into the middle of the festival like that is an amazing sight, and though Maria initially avoids it for concern it might be offensive to walk across it in the middle of the celebrations, after she sees quite a few others walking over it, she finally decides to approach and take a look.

It's an oddly-made bridge, to her eye, but it seems to be solid and has obviously taken many other people's weight, so after a few moments, she heads up onto it, steps cautious until she gets into a better rhythm of walking on the curved surface in these shoes.

If there's anyone at the bottom still deciding to go up, though, she'll turn back to offer them a smile.]

Were you coming up as well? It seems a bit sad to walk this alone.

[The funny thing is that Chikusa isn't even thinking about going up... He's just looking over it, a little wary. Something like this... Maria's voice snaps him out of it, however, and he looks up to her.]

Ah.... No. I don't think....

[He trails off before just shaking his head, not finishing his thoughts.]

a - Stalls

[ While some may see the opportunity to dress up for the occasion, wearing beautiful yukatas and other traditional outfits, there's at least one girl here who apparently prefers East to West when it comes to outfit sensibilities.

...Or she really only owns one outfit as it is, this fancy, expertly made black and white French-maid dress, complete with apron and headband. In fact, as she walks idly down the center of the stalls with her hands clasped in front of her she almost looks like the very epitome of a proper maid.

That image might not last for very long. Seeing as as a short discussion between the stall runner and the maid winds up with her huffing haughtily, and turning to the person next to her: ]

Give me money.

[ This maid with the deadpan voice even has the gall to hold out her hand as if expecting currency to be deposited for zero work done! What kind of girl is she? And the longest it takes the more impatient she looks! ]

b - Wishes

Hey, you.

[ Standing in front of the bamboo shoots with all the pieces of paper attached has left Ram feeling... confused. She's just arrived here, in a world that's so very different from the other world she must have left behind, given the state of her memories. Everything is different, and she's certainly never seen a festival like this. And Ram being Ram, the fact that she's feeling left out means only one thing.

That she's annoyed.

Without all the grace and subtlety of a nosy cat, she winds up right behind someone, leaning straight over and trying to read what they happen to be writing down, personal and embarrassing as it likely might be. ]

Do you really expect for someone else to solve your problems simply by writing them down? [ She hasn't gotten too far on the whole point of being a Shinki yet.

Once she's figured it out, and decided that she wants to join in too (she's the worst kind of hypocrite) Ram grabs a pen to write something down as well. Only, she can't quite figure out how to get the tip to come out. Cue a scene of a maid staring like a caveman at something as simple as a click-top pen, holding it up to her eye and staring into the empty end... ]

Wishes

Of course not.

[ She hasn't written a wish down. She's simply got nothing to wish for. But she's been reading over a few of them to see if there were any that stood out. Already she can recognize a few, given the handwriting.

But then there's that annoyed little question that she believes deserves her attention. Wishes are her forte, after all. Perhaps that's why she's so drawn to them no matter what the state of her memories seem to be. ]

The act of writing down a wish is for the intention of ones feelings to come across. Much like casting a coin into a well or praying to a falling star, many want their wishes to be heard. Even if they don't write them down, many silently pray for their wishes to come true. This is merely tradition. The writing down of a wish on tanabata is just another prayer - and we are in a position to see these wishes and grant them, aren't we? In the end, it's up to the person's will to fulfill their own wish if it was meant to be fulfilled. It's a matter of willpower... and inevitability. What was meant to happen will happen, no matter how hard you wish.

[ A – Stalls ]

[Well, the way things are handled here is definitely unique to any other welcome Riku has ever experienced while traveling the Worlds – and he's had 'welcoming committees' before, usually the unfriendly (and/or untrustworthy) kind. He gladly accepts the formal clothing offered to him; blending in and doing as the locals do seems to be a good idea for the moment's notice.

He spends his first hour drifting the stalls, watching others playing games and eventually picking up a helping of takoyaki – apparently, becoming a god does nothing to stop one's stomach from growling around so many delicacies. He's clearly enjoying the taste of it though, quietly noting to no one in particular.]

Almost tastes like home.


[ B – Watching the Stage ]

[Eventually, Riku has managed to make his way through the crowd towards the stage, hanging back to watch the on-goings there. He frowns a little when the rock band comes on – he may not know much about how things are done here, but even he can tell:]

They seem a little out of place, huh?

[Despite that, their music is far from bad, strangely enough. Who would have thought…]


[ C – Bridge ]

[After hours of wandering the festival, Riku finds himself drawn to the bridge, arms crossing as he leans back against the rail, his head falling back, sighing. It's been only hours since his arrival and he's spent most of them goofing off... like a certain other wild-haired Keyblade Wielder would have, no doubt.

The thought makes him smile to himself.]

Look at me, taking a page out of that guy's book. I guess, it isn't so bad… every once in a while.

[He can't always be the role model after all. Oh well… he'll start figuring out what to do with his new-found godhood starting tomorrow!]


[ D – Wildcard ]

[Roxas wasn't one for formalities. Hood pulled up on his hoodie, he's been walking around the stalls, not looking for anything in particular. He sees that all too familiar white hair and tenses.

..... Again?

Furious despite himself, Roxas waltzes right up to Riku, the year and a half away from home putting him at almost the same height as the other. It's hard to try and not glare.]

...... So are you a shinki this time or another god?

[No polite greetings this time. He learned his lesson from before.]

[ Stalls A ]

[This is absolutely the best festival they've had so far, and while he isn't sure he trusts it to stay that way, Ren is more than happy to take advantage of it for now, especially when it comes to sampling all the festival food. and of course, he can't let all that new experience go to waste, so if anyone nearby shows even a hint of indecisiveness, Ren will be happy to point something out for them.]

You should try that one, it was really good.


[ Stalls B ]

[If there's one thing that has attracted his attention today, it's the various scooping games. For quite a long time, he can be found diligently trying to scoop either goldfish or bouncy balls out of their tanks, or darting from one to the other to try a different one for a while. It would probably be easier if he weren't also trying to eat a chocolate banana on a stick at the same time...

Still, he's steadily building up a collection of bouncy balls, and he already has a couple of fish, despite having to juggle three things in two hands. In fact, if it seems like anyone nearby is struggling, he might even offer to snag something for them...]


[ Wishes ]

[It takes Ren a while to make his way to this area, not because he needs the time to decide what he wants to wish for, but because he knows exactly what he wants and it hard enough to think about it much less write it down. Even once he's taken a few papers and sits down to start writing, he starts with the easy ones--

"To be able to protect my shinki and make him happy."

"The strength to protect the people who need me."

"For my friends to be happy."

--but of course, they can't all be easy, and it isn't long before he's gotten to the ones that are genuinely difficult to write down. The next one ("That my friends at home are happy and safe and aren't worried about me.") isn't too hard once he starts writing, but he sits there just staring at the ground for a long while before he can bring himself to write the last two. In the end, they go on either side of the same paper, because they're close to the same thing in his mind.

"To play Vanguard again." / "To see my friends again."

It might take him a while to actually tie that one to a tree, too.]

That's exactly where Rei would find him: sitting near the stage with a dish of mitarashi dango he's nibbling on occasionally. When he sees the shinki coming, he raises his hand in greeting. ]

Rei! Over here, mate. We've a bit of business, you'n I.

[ The heavens have always been generous with food when it comes to these little parties. Eno's expecting nothing less when it comes to these little stalls. Today, however, he seems to be having a small problem.

There's a particular shinki who seems to be pushing a red bean bun on him. For some reason, he seems averse to the idea. Maybe he's full or maybe he's just got something against anko. ]

Ah... no, thanks. I'm fine, really!

[ But in the brief moment that he might be able to make contact with you, you might find he's mouthing out one thing: "HELP" ]

Bridge

[ He's not really approaching the bridge but he's more curious than anything. The tale of Orihime and her beloved is a curious one and it does get him thinking.

But for now, you might spot him standing just on the edge of the crowd with his hands in his sleeves, content to quietly observe those who do decide to cross. ]

So that's what all the fuss is about...

[There was an awkwardness to this day for Roxas. His last Tanabata was not the greatest. Things got weird (being chased across town by King Mickey was not fun) and then there was that death threat. So granting wishes was out for now. He's learned his lesson.

Instead there had been other things to do. Walk along the stalls, see performances, check on friends... But the bridge was always at the back of his mind. Roxas knew the story about Orihime and Hikoboshi. So there was a bridge here, right?

It turned out to be way prettier than he thought it would. Sora gets sent a quick whereabouts text before Roxas puts a tentative foot on the construction. Seems sturdy enough...]

I wonder if we can walk across it.

[On the other hand, Sora doesn't know a whole lot about Tanabata. This is his first time experiencing anything like it. He's only skimmed the stories about Orihime and Hikoboshi and doesn't quiet understand how all the wishes and stuff work yet. The tale about the bridge is also new to him too.

But when he gets a message from Roxas to come check it out with him Sora's there pretty quickly. He's opted to wear a dark blue yukata with orange and white birds on it. Hey, everyone else was doing that and it looked fun to match. Even if Roxas didn't want to dress up, Sora did.]

Generally Lost
[ While he doesn't really get what's going on, still have to make peace with the idea of apparently being a "God" (or "Goddess", as the real Epona is a woman), and has never heard of Tanabata, Butch enjoys festivities. But because there's so much he has never seen here before, he has no idea where to start. Should he just wander around and see where his feet lead him? He's done that for a great part of his 42 years of life (though maybe he can just say he's 43, since he's been a while in that other world, and it's past April here?) and he's also wondering if he can, because apparently he's a God despite always having been an agnostic and wouldn't that make his family gawk?) maybe he can use his real name here for a change?

He stands off to the side for a while, as people pass on the way to and from the festival, watching people and not really looking like he's as deep in thought as he is. He loves festivities but there are just a lot of things to think about before he can let himself get swept up by the mood. ]

...afore anythin' else's tobacco. Christ dagnabit, I ain't had a smoke in way too long.

[ What? A man's gotta have his priorities. ]


Stalls A
[ But swept up by the mood he soon gets. Even if he's finding these clothes pretty odd to wear (he wishes he could have one of the Samurais from the castle ruins around to teach him about this festival and show him how to properly work these clothes). He didn't let go of his guns or knives because he's in another strange world, and he's not letting go of those, so the gun belts are strapped to his waist and make his outfit look a little less traditional.

But that's something to think about later, because he wants to try all the strange food, and the drinks. But he also wants to try all the games. He particularly enjoys the shooting games, and because he's pretty damn good with a gun, he doesn't miss a single shot. He may stick to it a bit too long and the person running the stall seems to be worried that he'll carry off all the prizes (even though he's not really interested in them) and is eventually asked to please stop? ]

Ah, sorry. It was pretty fun's all.

[ Maybe so but they'll run out of prizes. ]

I'm not really interested in 'em, excepting them two horse toys since they're awful cute.

[ He did win it... And it seems it's a relief that he doesn't ask to get all the things stuffed in a to-go-bag. So yes, that helps, and he can have the two horse toys, sure.

A little while later, after he's wandered off with his two prices, he can't help but notice that the label on the bigger one says something pretty funny. ]

You're called Sundance, eh? So you gonna be my Sundance until I see my old Sundance? Then what's the little fellers name? Could I call you Elza? Y'know, I can't say I ever sawed a blue horse afore.

[ After deciding that he should stay off the games for a while after that, he goes to have a look at the food. But there's so much of it he's not familiar with, so... ]

Where's a person supposed to be startin' with this? [ Hmm.. Better ask someone else. ] Scuse me, [ insert the appropriate "miss" or "mister" here ], you ain't happenin' to have any suggestion what an old cowboy may enjoy in foodways in this here place?


Performance
[ It's never been a secret that Butch enjoys music. He used to play the harmonica during the hymns his family sang while they were all gathered together, and he's got a pleasant singing voice, and he's inclined to hum on songs as he works. So it's no surprise to him that he's drawn to watch the performances. ]

I ain't never heard music like this, wonder what it's called.

[ That goes for all ind of music a cowboy last on Earth in 1908 has no chance to have heard. ]


Wishes
[ Wishes, huh? Well... He knows one thing he wants. So, with a pretty decent handwriting (because while he didn't have much schooling to speak of his mother had been particular about having a good hand) he writes I want some packs of cigarettes. Not that he believes in this, just as he doesn't really believe in praying, but he might as well try, right? ]


The Bridge
[ So one way or other, he gets hold of cigarettes. And as he's enjoying smoking way too many at the same time, he ends up at the bridge. He doesn't know anything about it, just thinks it's a normal bridge, but if anybody else ends up walking on it close by he'll probably notice that something's going on. ]

[ He's been wondering something, due to a few observations he's made. So, he needs to ask someone about that, righT? ]

[ She wasn’t addressing you, per se. Instead, Hibiki is looking at her laptop, where images from the Tanabata celebrations outside are already being blogged by Near Shore residents. Her teacup lies broken on the ground behind her. ]

The primary festival has erected an open stage?! Venus! Wendy!!!

[ This will never do. To think that right this moment, there might be epoch-making performances happening that she, Shikyoin Hibiki, is missing….

She glances around purposefully. Someone here must be capable of taking over for her temporarily! ]

[ III. - Stage ]



[ Hibiki is in the very back of the audience, dressed for the occasion in a yukata. Her head is tipped upward, and she’s watching the proceedings on stage intently.

The face she’s making will depend on what kind of act is performing.

What sort of concert is on stage right now? ]

[ IV. - Wishes ]



[ These bustling communal activities aren’t really her style, so Hibiki takes a slip of paper when she thinks no one else is looking. She ties it up herself instead of turning it in, too, and takes a moment to pray in silence. Then she walks away.

The slip of paper simply says, in a firm cursive,

Mon chouchous.

She’s also not really watching where she’s going, so if she continues in this direction, she might end up on that bridge… ]

[ A festival is a pretty good idea to cheer people up after the most recent attack, so D2 is happy to go and to dress up for it. He's been playing some games and won a couple posters that he's definitely putting up in his bedroom later tonight.

But everyone needs a break from games after a while even though they're really fun, so he's off in search of food. And because two certain stalls are right beside each other, he starts to wonder... ]

Wonder what cotton candy and ikayaki would taste like together.

[ Somebody stop him from going on an adventure of flavors. Or join him, if you'd like. Weird food combinations could be fun, right? Or a disaster waiting to happen. ]

[ There are a lot of cute things being sold at the festival and D2, with tongue dyed blue from the flavored kakigori, taps his uchiwa against his cheek and eyes the furin stand. There are so many nice looking ones, he can't decide which one to buy. ]


(( Wishes ))
[ This "coming up with a wish" thing is a pretty difficult thing. He's taken a tanzaku and pen, but he has no idea what to write, so he has sat down with his back against a game stall which has some of the bamboo shoots beside it, and is staring up at the sky while trying to come up with something. Or wondering if he even should wish for anything at all. ]

A - Stall Food

[It's sure a good thing that all this food is free anyway, or else Chikusa would go into the same habits of theft like he did at the first festival he attended in the Far Shore.]

[...Of course, he's still falling into the habit of hoarding food like he always is. So, set to the side, he's carefully organizing food while sitting on a bench to the side. Yes, he's putting them into food boxes to store in his bag.]

[Listen. He obviously needs to hoard all this food and maybe get more. Anyone pausing to stare at this will earn a suspicious stare right back.]

....Do you need something?

[Now the question is, are you staring at his food habits, or that he's still wearing a beanie with his very nice Orihime-made yukata?]

B - Wishes

[Obviously the prime draw of Tanabata, the thing it's most known for, is writing wishes. The regular mortals of the Near Shore all seem enamored with it, and it's them (and whatever gods or shinki are participating) that Chikusa is watching dully. Sitting off to the side, he thins his lips slightly.]

I don't understand this at all...

[Feel free to overhear him.]

C - Game Stalls

[Yo-Yo Tsuri is a difficult game to win, apparently... but try telling that to Chikusa. A couple of yo-yo balloons have been piled up at his feet already, and he's apparently working on his fourth. But... the shinki manning this stall seems a little concerned. She's tried to get his attention a few times, but no luck.]

[He's... out of it. His gaze is emptier than usual as he tries to fish out another yoyo, and he seems oblivious as people pass him by.

[Maybe if someone directly bugs him, it'll get him out of it.]

[ Gojyo's been reading over all the wishes posted up -- yes, all of them -- and he's made it to just about where Chikusa is standing when the other man voices his confusion.

He gestures to the blank slips of paper and the pens, set aside and ready for anyone to use. ]

[ They're all demons.

Jay moves through the crowds of the living and the dead alike, hands tucked into his sleeves, head down, listening intently to the conversations of the passers-by. There's no mention of the bodies that were found yesterday, no fear in any of their voices. Their monstrous faces distort with shrill laughter, eyes glowing deep in their sunken sockets, teeth yellow and curved and far too long, and they clutch at each other with bony talons, nails slicing easily through flesh and fabric alike.

A whole festival of monsters, demons and corpses in gaudy flapping colors, seemingly ignorant of the creature moving among them.

(Just beyond the near row of stalls, Jay could see the glittering halo of flowers and angels that constantly surrounded his glorious god. Her presence, even when she was out of sight, was the single point of beauty and goodness in this filthy screeching pit. Briefly, he turned his face in her direction and basked in her radiance, a moment's strength to continue his work.)

Perhaps two deaths wasn't enough. Perhaps he needs to provide more. ]


Bridge -- OTA

[ The bridge is a fantastical creation of straw and twigs (and, to Jay's eye, bits of bone and thorn). Why would such a thing be here, if it weren't intended as a challenge?

He's going to climb it, all the way to the top. Or rather, he's going to climb it up to the point where the magic of the bridge starts trying to turn him around, and then he's going to get extremely frustrated as he attempts to climb higher. Approach with caution. ]

Bridge, because Viktor is annoying and knows nothing of what's been going on. Sorry for him

Viktor noticed the frustration. Normally, he'd have walked on by, because negative energy wasn't enjoyable and he got plenty with his own god, but...well. This guy seemed bound and determined to make it somewhere, which wasn't happening.

Oh, Viktor was definitely going to sample everything he could! His eyes huge, he made his way from stall to stall, bothering the poor shinki who ran them with his ridiculous exuberance and excitement about all of it.

Please, someone save him. He's been eating and drinking enough that he just might expire where he stands.

Wishes

Viktor had spent a good deal of time gazing at the tanzaku, the colors making him incredibly happy. Before he could stop himself, he wrote a wish of his own: "I'd like to get along better with my god" and put it up.

He'd been told that shinki could answer the wishes, so he walked through looking for any that seemed possible for him. Probably bumping into festival goers as he went.

Bridge

The idea of the bridge had made him happy, simply because it was so romantic and he seemed to be really into romantic things. Still, as much as he would have liked someone to walk with, for the moment he was on his own and decided he might as well try it out!

Walking along the bridge in any capacity was wonderful, but he kept ending up back where he'd begun. Rather than letting it bother him, he just laughed.

"Nice! Now I don't need to worry about getting lost!"

The exceedingly tall (6'7", whoo!) D was dressed in what he felt comfortable in--not those strange garments that People of the East wore, just hunter garb-- an all-black ensemble and a technicolor poncho and hat. It was probably a miracle he wasn't hot.

But he's trying to get into the spirit of things...??? Kind of. But the wishes are an interesting concept. He reaches up, putting one up.

'A shinki that turns into a weapon.' Because his current one turns into a god damn bamboo tea whisk, of all things.

A wonderful conversation starter.

[ Not having any memories, Gojyo really doesn't have anything to wish for.

(This is actually a lie -- there's dozens of things that he would wish for, but nothing that he's going to put into print and hang up where everyone can see them.)

But that's fine. He doesn't need to make a wish -- it's more interesting just reading what everyone else has wished for! It's amazing how many of them are similar. I want to be happy. I want friends. I want my friends to be happy, or the ones for specific events, let me pass this test, I'm nervous about tomorrow. One lunatic filled out something like thirty slips about food, and Gojyo laughs out loud when he sees them.

They aren't all funny, but they're all fascinating. For the first time since he arrived, Gojyo is finally starting to appreciate the job that the gods and shinki of the Far Shore take on. ]

Good Morning, Sunshine

As the sun rose higher into the sky, a nemesis arose to meet it: a cloud, fluffy and white but a herald of what may come, a threat of shadow over the day, one that might soon muster its compatriots to blot out the warmth and light entirely and send raid and despair down on the crowds.

Save for a promise of aid made by a pony. No sooner did the cloud coalesce in the sky than a pony shot upwards towards it. When Celestia reached its height, she turned in midair, her massive wings beating to hold her in place as she aimed -- and then she kicked out both her hind legs. Her hooves caught the cloud dead-center and it burst like she'd popped a balloon.

Satisfied with her work, Celestia dropped back down to the street, looking quite pleased with herself. She still had it!

Wishes

Was it really a yukata if it was on a pony?

Well, whatever the case, Celestia wore her outfit quite comfortably as she contemplated the bamboo shoots and the papers hanging from them. Then, as a golden glow arose around her horn, a piece of paper rose up in an aura of the same light. She scratched out a wish with a nearby pencil, frowning slightly at how indelicate the process was compared to a quill, but that didn't stop her. Soon enough, she finished, and flicked the paper onto the bamboo with a gentle motion of her head.

Peace and prosperity for all my little ponies -- and may Luna be happy.

Stalls

To those who had seen her before, the tall woman was Princess Celestia without a doubt, using her power to assume a human shape -- nopony else could possibly have long, iridescent, waving hair that looked so precisely like the pony's mane. But whereas the pony herself was calm and serene, as a human Celestia couldn't stop giggling... although perhaps for all the wrong reasons, since the Princess couldn't stop laughing at how absolutely TERRIBLE she was at this darts game. Throw the darts, hit the balloon, win a prize. It seemed so easy, didn't it? But her first throw had thunked into the ground a foot from the counter, and the second still quivered in the ceiling where she'd hurled it with strength that verged on the alarming.

"I'm so sorry," she said between giggles to the poor shinki managing the stall. "I think I have it this time."

Celestia stepped back, lifted the hand that had the dart in it... forgot she didn't have four legs, shifted sideways and forwards for the balance she expected to need, and flung both her hands out to catch herself as she stumbled. The dart shot out tail-first to skip over the ground several feet off to one side as the others spilled across the street, around the woman now on her hands and knees.

"...I apologize, I didn't have it!" she said, before she buried her face in her hands and tried so hard not to just fall over from laughter.

To be, and Eno would put it, 'reassigned' to a new god was something Bandou was still trying to get himself to be okay with. He and Izuminokami had made a wonderful team and finding out he was suddenly gone was more than heartbreaking for him. It hurt on a deeper level, one that was probably linked to his old life, and he'd been trying his damnedest not to focus on it. There were enough memories and coincidences showing themselves to him on their own - pushing it could only end badly.

But, despite all this, he was feeling a sudden pull towards the stalls that were set up around the festival. He could only assume it was for whoever the heavens had decided to pair him up with this time. They'd have to be just as awesome as Izuminokami-san was, right? Bandou walked through the rows of food and game stalls, skepticism and reluctance clearly painted on his face. But it'd be a lie to say that it didn't drop a bit once he noticed the woman seated in the dart range, giggling helplessly at her predicament. Was that her?

"Hey," he started, holding a hand down to lift her up if she wanted the help. "I can win something, if you want."

Forrest | OTA

[Forrest has come dressed in a formal summer kimono decorated with a pink and white floral pattern, his hair done up with a golden comb in place of his usual hat. He spends most of his time looking at other fancy accessories, gathering inspiration for his own work. If he's going to be apprenticing himself to Orihime, he's got to make sure he's familiar with the sorts of fashion she's most familiar with. At some point, though, he drifts toward the food stalls.]

It all smells so good... I wonder what I should try first?

Wishes

[Of course, Forrest doesn't spend all of his time just enjoying himself. As the current incarnation of Lakshmi, he reasons he should be granting some wishes too. He can be found near the bamboo shoots as the night wears on, looking around for something appropriate.]

'I want to look my best when I confess tonight.' I think I can handle that.

[The keen-eyed may also notice him surreptitiously pinning up his own wish while he's looking, though. If anyone decides to snoop, it says: 'please help her confess tonight.' He isn't selfish enough for it to be a confession to him - he just wants a certain someone to be happy, no matter who it's with.]

Bridge

[As the night wears on, Forrest heads toward the bridge. He's trying to look casual and inconspicuous, but failing utterly, and the later it gets the more he seems to be quietly fidgeting. He's clearly here waiting for someone.]

[He says as he comes by the stall. He's been hopping randomly from place to place to see it all and really enjoying himself. He has two different strips of meat on the end of sticks at the moment.]

[To Barry Goodman, a festival means one thing: good food. He heads for the food stalls almost immediately, and it isn't long before he's toting around as much as he can carry. He's got a candy apple and some taiyaki in one hand, as well as a precariously balanced toothpick that he's using to eat the takoyaki he's carrying in the other hand. He's sort of rotating between the three as he walks along, laughing happily as he stuffs his face.]

Aw, yeah! This is what festivals are all about!

Performance

[As a seasoned professional in the music business (apparently), Barry also can't help but be drawn to the stage. He's caught wind of CelePara's show at Apollo's temple, and even though Sparkle Motion has plans for Obon lined up, it never hurts to do some recruiting. He watches each act carefully, arms folded and nodding along with the beat of each song.

Lateron, he decides to get up there and blow everyone away with a song of his own. His original plan was to go up and sing the theme song to Magic Girl Development Planning, but if CelePara is playing Tanabata, he's going to have to pull out the big guns. He's not really dressed for the occasion, clad in his usual magical girl t-shirt, but when he gets up on stage he borrows a guitar from one of the bands that had been playing before and gives his best death metal performance.]

Wishes

[Barry's not here for love, so he stays away from the bridge. But he does have a wish of his own that he'd like to have granted. As he writes it out in preparation to tie it to the bamboo shoot, he even says it out loud.]

I wish for Sparkle Motion to shine as bright as the heavens!

[The food is definitely one of the best parts of the festival! Barry's got that right for sure!! In fact, that mountain of food grabs the attention of one wiry looking kid who's well on his way to giving Barry some stiff competition after having gotten himself an armful of tasty looking meat buns. Halfway through a bite of one, he stops, looking pretty surprised, and after half a moment of deliberation about speaking up, he calls out,]

Oh! [That takoyaki! He hasn't found the stall that's offering that just yet!!] H-hey! Where'd you find that?

[This is Lunafreya's first festival, and unfortunately she hasn't quite familiarized herself with the local customs. She's wearing an all-white kimono - the traditional garb of the dead in Japanese culture - and wondering why so many people seem to be nervously avoiding her. Even Amaterasu's shinki frown when she approaches.]

...Did I do something wrong, I wonder?

Wishes

[There isn't much Luna can do here in the way of healing, but she does have a wish of her own. She writes it out carefully, smiling a wistful little smile and bowing her head respectfully as she ties it to the bamboo. She may be a goddess in her own right here, but it never hurts to voice a little prayer of her own. Anyone passing by close enough may even hear her whisper it to the night air.]

I wish not to guide him, merely to stand beside him.

Bridge

[Like so many others, Luna eventually makes her way toward the bridge. She spends a bit of time simply people watching, smiling softly as she watches young couples to be pass by. Eventually, though, her expression turns more thoughtful. Her wish earlier was a sincere one, but she's not sure this is how she wants it to come true. Their marriage may have been arranged at home, but if she's meant to stand at Noctis' side here, she wants it to be because he feels the same way and not because of a magic bridge. Still, she can't help but hope that he'll meet her there.]

[ It's a good thing Mira doesn't really get it; surely there must be a reason the people are looking at her like that... but at the same time-- ]

[ First order of business: She needs to find her god. Sure, she's a little unsure about this whole thing. She's not sure she can be a good shinki, but... she has to at least try. Ditching her god without even meeting them is kind of extremely wrong, and she doesn't want to do that. So. Mira spends her time not at the stalls or the stage, but looking for her god.

Her cause of death isn't awful, but being hit by a car after visiting one's dying mother isn't exactly pleasant. Of course, she won't remember that, but surely Sora will. ]

[ Her first day here and she seems to be... in the middle of a festival? She's been put into appropriate garb, a soft pink yukata with gold stars on it. It's pretty, but she feels weirdly out of place for some reason she can't put her finger on. Regardless, though, she's interested enough in everything to at least peer at most of the stalls. She, obviously, has no money, so she's spending her time with food samples. ]

Everything's really good... I can't pick a favorite, [ she says to herself, quietly. Really, it's true; there are few things she doesn't like.

Additionally, she's looking around at other stalls--the ones with small trinkets. They're really pretty, especially the moon-themed stuff. ]

Wow... I wonder how much time it took to make all these.

[ And somehow, she finds herself near the stage. There's something exciting about the different talents on show, and she ends up being one of the more enthusiastic audience members.
