With Tanabata drawing close, the Heavens have decided that there is nothing wrong with a little celebration for the annual occasion. So they have invited everyone on the Far Shore as well as a large number of people from the Near Shore to attend a festival for Tanabata. Tanabata festivals are not uncommon in this area, so the Near Shore residents are none the wiser, though some of them are a little uncertain about where this street they've never heard of popped up from...

Tanabata is a festival held to celebrate the one time a year that the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can meet across the vast expanse of the Milky Way. Many birds have been working their tail feathers off to create a bridge for the two lovebirds and that bridge - perhaps unsurprisingly - touches down on this street, in the middle of the festival.

The Heavens have prepared entertainment, food stalls, and as many tanzaku as might be needed for everyone to write down wishes, along with plenty of bamboo stalks to hang the wishes from.

New arrivals will find themselves ushered to the festival and offered traditional clothing after their normal briefing at the Meeting Hall.



Stalls

There are festival stalls of every kind present, all run by shinki dressed in white robes and bearing the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu. Many of them seem a little bruised still, but they are happy to smile for anyone who comes to the stall they are running. There is food, games, and drinks available of all kinds, so feel free to roam around to your heart's content sampling everything that you can.

Performance

A large stage has been erected at one end of the festival street. The Heavens know that there are many talented gods and shinki present, so they are more than willing to clear spots in the scheduling for those people to perform. Anytime a Far Shore resident isn't on stage, there are plenty of Near Shore acts to go on, ranging the gambit from traditional music and instruments all the way to a rock band that has somehow found themselves here for the celebration.

Wishes

Pieces of paper called tanzaku have been strewn about a number of bamboo shoots all over the festival. There are brightly colored decorations on the bamboo and the papers themselves exist in every color of the rainbow as well. Attendees are encouraged to write down any wishes they may have and hang them from the bamboo, a normal Tanabata tradition. Wishes can range from 'I want a soda' to 'World peace' and anything in between. Obviously, some of these wishes may not be able to be granted during the time of the festival, but gods and shinki alike are encouraged to answer any wishes they can as well.

The Bridge

As stated previously, the bridge that will allow Orihime to meet her lover touches down in the very center of the festival's street. It may be made of tiny pieces, but the bridge itself is sturdy. While it may not be able to take just anyone who sets foot on it across the Milky Way, you are allowed to walk along the bridge yourself, though you will always find yourself turned around after a short time and heading back towards where you stepped on. Lovers in particular are encouraged to walk the bridge together to deepen their bonds, but be cautioned! If you walk onto the bridge with someone, you might start feeling affectionately towards them even if they are your sworn enemy! Such is the power of love on this day.

[Goten looks between the two curiously, licking his thumb before perking up. Food talk again. Good!]

But you can tell two different stalls your order at the same time...three even!

[He grins~]

If we all went to different stalls and ordered then we'd get it all at the same time! But....I like this way better cause I can hang out with Izumo and now you too Shizumo! So mochi it is!

There's a way you're supposed to do it at festivals, cuz many stalls try to make it a show or nice to watch it getting put together.

[ Much like how they watched the crepes get put together. The mochi one might not be quite like that, given the nature of the cold treat, but that was better for cooling off without worrying about it melting until after you've bitten into it.

Motioning over at the stall with the mochi, it's led by a shinki wearing some bunny-themed accessories. Because of the whole rabbit pounding mochi thing, ha-ha ]

They've got a lot of flavors. Green tea, vanilla, chocolate, red bean, yuzu...

Doing it one by one lets us enjoy it more.

[After all, where's the fun in eating festival foods if they attack it all at once?

Either way, he munches on his own crepe as he proceeds to head over to the stall.]

Green tea sounds good. [For some reason, red bean doesn't sound at all appealing to him.]

At least you think so...

[Why would green tea sound good over chocolate or strawberry? Must be an adult taste thing. Still Goten is just as eager at the stall. He peers up to watch the shinki work]

Izumo! Next festival, you should run a stall too. I betcha would make the best food. Shizumo could help ya too since I bet you'd get a whole bunch of business.

[bartenderizing]

They're all pretty good.

[ Don't worry, Goten. Shizuo has similar tastes as you, though he also likes vanilla. The only 'adult' thing in his tastes were really the fact that he smoked sometimes. Everything else... Debatable. ]

Ah... My skills with cooking are pretty basic at best. Aside from moving and lifting things, I'd be in the way. I'd be better help at the bar, probably.

[ Which was supposed to be an example of how much of a cook he wasn't, but he did have some familiarity with the setup and product. ]

[Izumo's the 'adult' of the group who doesn't enjoy sweets as much as you two.

Though, he really doesn't mind it all too much. At Goten's suggestion, however, Izumo laughs.]

I'll think about it. If I run a stall, I might be busy to even enjoy myself at a festival next time.

[Thoughtful hum as he looks at Shizuo.] So long as you don't break any of my glasses, anyway.

[sonofson]

Then you just gotta close early. You can't work the whole festival.

[Worse case Goten would swoop down and steal Izumo away to enjoy the festival should any of that ever happen. After telling the serving shinki what he wants, he smiles up at Shizou]

Are you strong, Shizumo? [Wait, at the bar? Goten blinks slowly between the two]

Are you both working together at the bar?

[bartenderizing]

Stalls're a lot of extra work, anyway.

[ There's sort of a stalled thinking sound at the question of him being 'strong.' As Shizuo has a different idea of what strength really is, which doesn't really line up with just 'being able to lift a lot' and break things, the blond ends up giving an honest shrug. ]

I wouldn't say that I work there. It's more that people think I'm supposed to be.

[ The first time they met probably wasn't the only time people thought Shizuo was the one running Izumo's bar. He certainly had the outfit for it. ]

I think the whole point of working at a stall during the festival is to work a majority during it. I'm rather content with the bar.

[Izumo chuckles, grinning as he ruffles Goten's hair.]

No, not working together, but people already think he does.

[How many times does any of his customers come in and complain to him about breaking something he has no recollection about? Probably enough.]

At this rate, Shizuo, you might as well come and work there.

[sonofson]

Yeah!

[Goten turns around and bounces up and down in front of the pair]

You tottally should work with Izumo, Shizumo! I betcha would be a really good team! I visit a lot during the day, but Izumo doesn't let me stay when it starts to get late for some reason.

[He steps closer to Shizuo, standing on the tips of his toes again as he lifts his hand to cover his mouth; whispering loudly]

If you work there you should let me come by at night to! I don't go to bed that early!

[Goten grins as he drops back down and smiles up at them both, as if Izumo didn't hear him...]

But I really think you should! Izumo could probably use more help besides that dish washing guy that i've seen around.

[bartenderizing]

I guess I may as well.

[ Sounds like he has a job now. Which will at least let Yona not worry that all he did was sleep around on roofs and in the sun. Soon, training is going to be happening on top of that as well. ]

Kids aren't supposed to be in bars after a certain point. Too much alcohol is passed around and you don't need to be around drunk people.

[ They're generally Not Fun for kids. Also note how he said that plainly, even after Goten did his totally-subtle whispering thing. Shizuo doesn't whisper. ]

[At the reference to Bandou, Izumo holds back a laugh.

He looks on in amusement.] You don't have to, Shizuo.

[But he won't reject it either.

The amusement grows when he hears them.]

Goten, I don't Shizuo is going to let you come in the bar at night either.

[sonofson]

[Goten blinks and frowns at them both, cheeks puffed out in a pout. Even though they're twins doesn't mean they have to agree on that too]

But thats no fair! I never get to stay over late. [Izumo and Shizuo can stay, so he should be able to too!]

[bartenderizing]

It'd be something to do.

[ And with the half-shrug, he's not uncomfortable with the idea at all. It'd save them both some frustration, and it wasn't exactly unfamiliar to him.

As Goten puffed out his cheeks, Shizuo patted the top of his head. It was done gently, as Shizuo always tries to be, but the kid could still feel that there was some amount of strength as he ruffled the boy's hair. ]

A bar's open late because that's when people come to drink. The air changes and the people there are usually less fun for kids to be around. You should only be there when it's lighter and friendlier. It's not nice to hear, but at night the customers only want adults around.

[ Never mind the laws and practical reasons. ]

[Izumo hums, looking down at Goten.]

It's exactly what Shizuo's said. I don't want you to be exposed to what the night brings to the bad, Goten. It's different from how it is during the day.

[Besides, he's not even sure Aymeric even knows Goten has been frequenting the bar during the day, anyway.]

[sonofson]

[Hair ruffles or not, Goten still doesn't like it. It's not the fact that Shizuo ruffles harder then Izumo either. There are times he can't hang out with Izumo and now Shizuo was added to the list. He doesn't see what the big deal is. Different at night or not.]

Okay....so how old do you gotta be? If I gotta be old as you guys, thats gonna take forever and ever. I guess that's something to wish for then, huh?

[But he means well.]

[bartenderizing]

[ This is just what happens when Shizuo tries to be gentle. Both physically with the hair ruffling and with easing Goten away from visiting bars at night. ]

Not as old as us. Legal age for drinking is 20.

[ Not... Not that places really follow that. Shizuo has the raw knowledge that teens frequent bars all the time. But what happens and what's legal are different. ]

So you shouldn't be going to bars at night until around that time.

[toremainbehind]

[....Izumo has a whole bunch of random people coming into his bar, some just barely legal, but he won't explain it.

Instead, he chuckles.]

Once you're 20, then you're able to come to the bar at nights.

[sonofson]

[Goten blinks owlishly between them both. Okay, that's fair BUT:]

. . . . .How will I know when that is? How do you know I'm not 20 right now?

[bartenderizing]

[ That's why it's easier to put things into 'this is a law thing we can't change.' Explaining how things really are gets way more complicated, especially with Goten's argument now. ]

You're probably 5. At most I'd believe you were 7. So you still have a while to go.

[ Though it makes him wonder how old they were. Maybe around 25? It's possible they were older, but there really wasn't any way of knowing, was there? Ah well. ]

[Izumo laughs, ruffling Goten's hair.]

It's just better for you not to be at the bar at night, Goten. Besides, I get to cook for you more during the day, anyway.

[Because at night, he deals with the drunks.

But then his attention is caught by the shinki as they announce their desserts are ready for the taking.]

But we donno how old I am for sure. I could be....just small?

[Goten frowns up at them both, though the ruffling makes him glance to Izumo. He's got a point. Goten likes it when Izumo can cook. So maybe it isn't so bad but st--- And thats when the dessert catches his eyes. Goten instantly is reaching up to take his. Bar talk forgotten in favor of food!]

[bartenderizing]

[ With Goku sufficiently distracted by food (the one guarantee among Saiyans, Shizuo finishes one of his skewers real quick- being sure to swallow before saying anything. ]

I'll come in during the day to figure out what I already know, so we can see what needs filling in.

[ The easiest way instead of juggling the night crowd with a new employee. The way he was able to recognize things on the shelf, despite most definitely not being a drinker, was at least a good sign. ]

[He takes his own dessert, watching Goten in fond amusement before he takes a bite.]

Just don't mind the other guys I have working there.

[Goten is digging into his almost instantly. Doesn't matter if it's getting on his face or not. So good~! Happy saiyan child---still room for more though.]

Sunglasses guy is nice!
