( That would help everyone look after time, right? It seems like a big job for just one person.. )
Hmm... I have time! ( And he doesn't mind telling it, either. ) Let's see...
A long time ago, there was a fisherman named Urashima Taro. ( Urashima the fisherman and Urashima the shinki. Coincidence? ) One day, he saw a bunch of boys picking on a small turtle. ( And surprise, on his shoulder is actually a small turtle as well. ) He chased the boys away and returned the turtle to the sea.
The next day, when he was on his boat, a giant turtle came to him and said the god of the sea wanted to see him! So Urashima jumped on his back and together, they went to the Dragon King's palace at the bottom of the sea. The king greeted him and thanked him for saving his daughter. When Urashima asked what he meant, the king introduced him to the small turtle he'd saved and she turned into a beautiful princess!
( That's his favorite part. )
Urashima and the princess fell in love and they lived together in the Dragon King's palace under the sea. But three days later, Urashima began to miss home so he told the princess he wanted to visit his family. The princess said if he left, he could never return. Urashima thought carefully and decided to return to land. Sadly, the princess said farewell but she gave him a small treasure box before he left and told him to never open it.
The giant turtle took Urashima back home but when he got there, no one was there! He went into the village and asked where his family was and the villager said, "That family moved away when their son disappeared three hundred years ago." Urashima realized that even though he'd been under the sea for three days, it had actually been three hundred years!
His family was gone and he couldn't return to the princess. In his distress, he opened the box and turned into an old man. From the sea, he heard the princess' voice say sadly, "The box contained your lost age..."
