The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[This kid is at least recognizable - the shock of yellow hair, the scar. He's not so generic as Chikusa. But he looks even more flighty, so Axel drops to a crouch.]

[Nothing in the closet, and nothing as a response. Well, it's not the only place in the room..... although there's not much else.]

[ July 17 - Park - Afternoon]

[Rin's morning routine usually consists of three basic steps: washing up, eating breakfast, then going for a quick morning run around the castle grounds. This morning, however, it seems his beautiful schedule has to be interrupted, even flat out postponed, because for some reason his feet don't quite touch the ground and all the cabinets in the kitchen seem to be several miles away from his reach. In other words, he woke up small and someone is going to have to pay for that.

Unfortunately, that hotheaded attitude carries over far past morning, and as a result he and his shinki (also properly shrunk) end up butting heads... over something probably very stupid and very unimportant. So. To let off some steam, Rin ends up at the most peaceful place he can find aside from his own castle, and that's the park.

Sure... it's a little spooky, now that he thinks about it. After all, there's ghostly spirits of various animals freely frolicking about in the fields and trees, there one moment, gone the next. But he's oddly glad of the company (company that isn't his stupid, fatheaded shinki). At this moment, it seems the spirit of a small black dog has chosen to keep him occupied, running back and forth each time he tosses a stick for it to catch, and thankfully it's proving to be a welcome distraction... well, for a little while anyway. It still seems the rosy-cheeked little god has quite a few tears he can't wipe away no matter how hard he tries. And sniffles.

Not that he's upset or anything! Leave him alone! Or don't.]

[ July 17 - Beach - Evening]

Come on, you can do it!

[Things have calmed down a little by the time the sun starts setting and even if he's still smaller than he should be, he's managed to patch things up with Sousuke (for the most part), and the two of them decide to spend the rest of the day by the sea. They've already taken out most of their energy with racing in the waves and holding a rock skipping competition or two, and now that they're apart for a while he's taken some time to build a little sand castle before the tide comes all the way in. It's... more of a mound than a castle, but he's trying, ok?

Construction's halted, however, by some curious shifting beneath the sand, and soon enough Rin finds himself following what looks to be a baby sea turtle, hobbling along across the sand to reach the sea. It's probably hard making the journey all by itself... so he'll just have to stand by and make sure it won't be alone at all!

Hands on his knees, he keeps a close watch on the baby turtle and makes sure to push it along with a little nudge in case it gets stuck.]

That's it! You shouldn't stop now! Look, the ocean's right there!

He's carrying a bunch of them in his arms. His pants are stained with dirt and grass from all his time in the gardens. There's some flower petals in his hair.

Oh hey, a person! And they're asking for directions. He tilts his head to the side and thinks about this question. ]

[Whether you're in the Heavens or the human world, there's a little girl of about five or six in a pale blue sundress wandering around, exploring. She's innocently fascinated at so many things! There's shops with sweets, and music, and pretty posters of idols in cute outfits...

But while she remembers leaving the temple on her own lots of times before, she doesn't remember what was different then or why everything feels so much bigger and scarier now. And the longer she looks around in unfamiliar territory, the less sure she is of the way back home. If she finds a friendly enough looking grownup, she'll just kind of drift closer to them, too nervous to speak up but also not wanting to be all alone out here anymore.]

[B - July 17th]

[The next day, she doesn't go out alone again! Perhaps you're the grownup or even an older child keeping an eye on her, or you're running across her looking much happier and at ease with Maria's soulless shinki looking after her.]

Hey, hey! Can we go in here?

[Either way, she's tugging on her babysitter's clothes, pointing towards a toy store with cute stuffed animals. They have little alpacas in different outfits! Her little eyes are sparkling just looking at them in the window!]

[ You know who's also not really looking where he's going? The tiny kid in a too-big beanie on a skateboard. In fact, he doesn't even see Fuujin until it's almost too late and then there's a lot of scrambling and flailing limbs before he....

[The sight of another kid walking by the school with weird stuff- alright so a fishing pole isn't weird, but he has no idea if he's ever seen one before- is enough to draw a certain little kid in a beanie down from his watch spot at one of the higher level windows and to the front doors. Open curiosity is all around, but he still shies back a little when Souji comes close.]

...That's for fishing?

[What in heaven's name did he do to deserve a fate such as this. He ignores the little boy, opting to just fall face first into the grass. Consider yourself ignored kid, just like you probably wanted. Or didn't.

[ It felt normal to have these, and don't talk about them. Can't let anyone worry. He tilts his head when he sees the other breathing hard. ]

But I'd suggest not standing around here. At the very least, can you trust me enough to move you to a safer place?

[And that makes Fuujin stop. He whirls around on Lavi, glaring at him.]

[Lifting the hand from his neck, he holds it out towards Lavi. Wind gathers around him before shooting at the red-head. Nothing life threatening but surely enough to knock a small child, or adult, down.]

You should watch your tongue.

[He certainly sounds like Add, if Add were a decade younger. He jumps a little at the unexpected voice, staring straight at Ekko while internally debating whether he should run or not.

... but this guy hasn't done anything weird or threatening yet, so Edward decides to stay in his spot. He folds his arms, trying to make a mean, intimidating face (yeah, it'll take a few years before he grows into that scowl).]

[Axel checks behind the curtains, too, even in the dresser, all avoiding where he suspects Chikusa actually is.

Finally, though, there's nowhere else to look, so he drops his smaller-than-usual frame to the ground and peers into the darkness under the bed.]

[GREAT SUCCESS. Souji bounces back slightly as Hijikata frees himself, looking unbearably pleased with himself. And while as an adult he might at least cover his mouth with his hand in a falsely demure - and probably not very successful - attempt at hiding his laughter, he is still young enough now to let it spill out loud and unabashed at the look on Hijikata's face.

...Wearing? That throws him a bit, and he looks down at himself for a moment as if to check that yes, he's still wearing the same thing. Is there a problem?]

Do you like it? [Unbidden, he does a little twirl on the spot.] It's so warm, I thought this would be a nice thing to wear. All the clothes are kind of weird, don't you think?

[ It was probably actually Yata's fault they collided (since that's been happening a lot and he was distracted anyway). And while he wobbles and flails from the sudden impact, the kid that ran into him probably couldn't knock over a fly, so he'a quick to right himself again.

And then blink down at the almost-familiar form in surprised confusion. ]

Eh?! It's okay, you don't have to be sorry, it coulda been my fault, too. [ Which is when he gets a good look at the guy scrambling to his feet and goes carefully still. Yup, That is definitely a younger Eric. And he's not looking so great. ] What happened to you?

[An overactive imagination supplying an array of hypothetical child eating ayakashi may also have contributed to her growing concern. Possibly.]

I know. Perhaps I just... worry too much.

[Very carefully and gently she reaches out and puts one gloved hand on his back in something very like a hug.]

But I'm glad you're okay. Did you go anywhere interesting?

[Cardia doesn't want to sound like she's questioning him, but she does want to know what he's been up to.]
