The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

Well... I last remember having it before I got here. But everything between then and now is fuzzy, so somewhere in between there is where it vanished.

Maybe, but nopony would consider that a remark of a great master of magic. Just a great cleaner. [Celestia is pretty sure her talent has nothing to do with THAT, though. Alicorns tend to have special talents after all.]

Well... you're making a good point but kids usually go for what's familiar. Some of them would kind of get what a sea anemone is but I'm not sure all of them would.

[ Method to his madness indeed. So he might not seem to be out there but it's funny how natural one can seem when wearing the most ridiculous outfits.

But he decides to keep the other man company instead. It's the least he could do, anyway. ]

So... any luck getting the kids to listen? It'd be terrible to have put in all this effort for nothing.

( The outburst has at least passed some and Sakura lets the two of them sit in silence for a moment. In the silence, she tries to find her voice. She's a nervous and timid girl herself so it doesn't come easily but quietly, gently, softly she begins to sing )

I would hate baby-sitting beyond Bon Festival,
The snow begins to fall, and the baby cries.
How can I be happy even when Bon Festival is here?
I don't have nice clothes or a sash to wear...

[...As far as he knows it isn't, but what does he know? He might have a harem of his own in life.]

[...probably not. And now he's remembering that her memory would have gone away with her years, and so too his name.]

I'm Dust. We met before, but I don't think you remember.

Not for nothing but... I can usually feel ayakashi. This kind of darkness feels different though.

[ ....yup she's definitely a kind of horse though. Definitely not an ayakashi. But he's trying not to look like he's staring. It'd be rude... especially if she happens to be a god. So he's just gonna focus on the matter at hand. ]

Do... you think it means something?

So far, most of the physical changes seem to be related to age.

[Growing younger, mostly -- at least in the people he's met so far. It may help explain why there are so many small children around...

Dryly, he adds:]

I haven't seen cat ears.

Your number? Are you an escaped slave? [Who else would have a number but a slave? To think she's escaped that fate, if barely...]

[Again he listens to her and turns around and around, his eyes are still closed.]

[With an appreciative nod, Reisi smirks in response. It may surprise everyone except Reisi, but...]

So far, I've had quite a few approach me out of curiosity. I wouldn't say it's entirely for nothing, but most children—especially the young ones—have too short an attention span.

[One of his hands tentacles reaches up to push his glasses up the bridge of his nose.]

Are you certain you'd rather pass on the kigurumi? You might make a very nice sheep...

[Despite everything, Platina can't help but laugh. Just one quiet little laugh.] I have to agree. This is all very strange to me... Have you seen anyone else?

They wouldn't want you as a slave. [No offense, but she can't exactly put in a hard day's work.]

...I remember, but I have to be dead. There is no way I can be a god!

[Oh, the irony. But Platina seems quite wedded to this conviction, a scowl on her face.]

[Does she have trouble with numbers? Or does she just not know for sure how many children she's trying to get food for?

Gonou makes a thoughtful face at her.]

All right, so I'll make you four packed dinners to take with you.

[That'll come close to cleaning out the food he's made, but he's not particularly hungry -- which is strange, because he's only eaten one meal today. It's probably just the worry.]

[A blink when the screen comes down, though otherwise, he doesn't show much other reaction.

He hums.]

Do you have a favorite Space pirate?

[A blink as he looks at Zero.]

Just you and brother lives here?

[He can sympathize, even tempted to tell the other not to talk to Gonou, but--]

...He seems earnest in wanting to talk to you.

[A blink, two blinks, before he tilts his head.]

...I can't remember the last time I've done anything like that.

[A curious look as he gazes up at Shun.]

Do they call you by your name or a different name?

[And as if needing extra explanation:] Because everyone I meet keeps calling me Lavi.

[It makes things confusing for the young shinki.]

[He sees the way it catches him off guard, enough that it makes some of the wariness return.

But he continues on when she asks that question:]

I have no doubt that it does, from both instinct and experience. [A faint shiver crosses over her form, rippling her feathers outwards with a gentle rustle.] But what that is, I do not know.
