016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[ THAT SOUNDS AMAZING. ] Bring them, bring them! There's enough for everybody!

[He hears it alright, but he can't figure out where it's coming from. He's not used to being able to see correctly yet and he's a bit dizzy but he sees the kid and trots up to him, and the hat seems... He knows a kid who was wearing a beanie every time he saw him.

Oh no.]

Hey, you ok?

... I see. Well, it's a good thing you're both here, then, although not remembering must be --

[He can't even imagine. He covers the unsettled pause with a shrug, and glances up at the man again.]

Difficult.

All sorts of bad things.

[Like time loops or dimension shifts or worst, repeating second grade.]

But I wouldn't worry too much about it.

[His stomach rumbles the moment he sees the message, and ok, the old lady seems nice so why not?]

[ She really is being chased by this other person!! The world isn't just full of lies and falsehoods, it's full of stalkers!! ]

[ The little girl runs at full tilt down the street, and in her wake she starts leaving....doors. Doors floating in midair that will slam shut and lock with multiple locks as Lux approaches them.

If Lux can't stop in time, she'll be able to....run right through the doors. They only look like they're there.

The disembodied voice (and fruit) is also none too dissuaded. "HUH HUH HUCKLEBERRY? WHY ARE YOU CLOSING THE DOORIAN, MISS ROLLY ROLLS? KUMQUAT OVER HERE AND HAVOCADO A BALL!!" ]

[Zoro had decided to stop his own wandering and had started his daily training, though not as gruelling as usual since the tiny body couldn't handle it.

So when he hears Shouto's question, he's in the middle of trying to do one hand push ups. And failing.]

Training, you?

[Ok so not everyone looked familiar, and Zoro was still sad about Niles, but when he spots Roxas.... Something just clicks.]

Roxas?

It works out, actually.

[ Which probably sounds weird, but the preteen does similar by rolling his shoulders casually. He'd smoke, but kids really weren't supposed to. Despite really being an adult, Shizuo wasn't going to get around the physical fact that he was too young. ]

Sometimes we'll annoy the shit out of each other, but we're pretty good at communicating and working together. You don't really need the past for that kinda thing.

I guess.

[A big side from a little person.]

Probably. You're timing isn't great, Ms Space Lady.

[ She'd been wandering around the whole day, as was her usual practice when it came to these things. Half to assess the "damage" and half to look for him. Though she would never admit the second bit.

Unfortunately, her attention is on the crowd as she walks. Unpredictably, she bumps into someone. ]

Ah! S... sorry. I didn't mean...

[ A beat, looking up at who exactly she bumped into. Those eyes... ]

....Rei-kun....?

[ doki]

I'm a grown up!

[Says the tiny child of around 8, with two swords on his shoulder.]

That's what the tea party's for!

[ She might be trying to fill it with people because not having people is creepy and unpleasant. ]

[ What the hell is even going on here

But she keeps her grip on the girl, leading her away from this.... thing. And why is it speaking in fruit puns?! ]

Sent? Did... did someone send this thing after you? Where's Hibiki?

[He turns around and stares.

And stares.

And stares some more.]

Why are you glowing?

That expression is the same as ever, Fuu-kun.

[From ahead of him comes the calm, clear voice of Suijin.
Having been called back to heaven to help deal with the upheaval caused by a number of gods suddenly becoming children, she is relieved to find Fuujin. She is worried, however, at finding him as a child. Her instinct of what that means is hard to ignore. Crouching down so her eyes are more level to his she asks,]

How are you doing?

[Although Suijin is in a hurry, her ears are sensitive to the trembling words of a child near her. She is a god of motherhood, after all.
It takes her only a moment to find him, and only a moment more to recognize him. Not approaching too closely yet she crouches down and calls him by his common name, gently and calmly.]

Izuku. You are being very brave, trying to find the answers on your own. Please, won’t you come here and ask me your questions? I am Suijin, and although you may not remember it, we have met before.

[From beneath her long veil she extends one white-painted hand and she smiles at him kindly.]

[ He sulks. ] Man. That's no fun. If it's so dangerous, what do you do with it?

Eh?

[ Yata had spotted the other boy watching him in the park and had come to say hello, but that's certainly not the response he'd expected. Leaning in, he peers at him curiously. ]

What's wrong with you?

[That seems to mollify his momentary concern, and he nods confidently.]

Okay, I get it now. And I get why you're so excited about it. It sounds like...a musical amusement park, kind of.

[Which seems like a thing that should have been done before, but hey, at least it sounds like someone's done it.]

Okay, I'll remember. [The young boy nods firmly before setting the books down to sort them into piles by subject. It's done very meticulously, because apparently he wants to be sure he's right.]

Is there really nobody else to help you? I didn't see any other people when I was walking around either. [He sounds kind of concerned about that, because working in a school without anyone else would be lonely, wouldn't it?]

[The amount of times Shun's heard that by now today shows in the immediate side-eye Yukine gets, though it's not the severe sort Shun is prone to normally so much as just the squint of someone who's seen someone else do something weird. The other two hadn't mentioned anything about him being particularly nice, either, which just makes it weirder.]

I'm not that rude. And I've had this conversation a couple of times today, but even if you say you know me, I don't remember you. I only remember being here since this morning.

[There's some vague feeling of having been here before, but there's so many years between it and now that it's little more than distant deja vu.]

Why are you calling me "Kurosaki-sama", anyway? [Because that's...really not how people usually address him.]

[ The little girl continues to struggle, trying to get away from the scary person who won't leave her alone. ] Sent--

[ A gasp for breath and she can get the whole phrase out. ] Sentence enders.....

[ In her flailing, something drops out of her pocket. It's a school ID for Persailles Private Kindergarten, in a fancy leather sleeve.

Clearly visible, right next to a picture of this little girl in happier times, is the name "Hibiki Shikyoin". ]

[ Yata gives a yelp when the boy topples sideways, but when he only laughs instead of cries, he relaxes again with a wide grin. ]

Right? Ummm. I could push you on it instead, if you wanna crouch on it? Maybe that would work better!
