016 | The Good Old Days

Summary: A breach in the space-time continuum is messing things up.

The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...

Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[ Hibiki has discovered a cool thing she wants to tell somebody about. Being a stranger doesn't matter, because everybody is her friend. So, here is a person in the world, and that will do.

She holds up a purple tablet. ] Do you want to see something pretty??

[ Hello excited person, meet excited person. Rather smaller excited person, but that doesn't seem to daunt her. ] Shikyoin Hibiki! Hold on.

[ She pulls out a pen and sticks her tongue between her teeth as she modifies a piece of paper she'd had in this basket she's carrying. Then she offers it to him. ] Here.

[ It's an invitation to a tea party. And the word "REN" in hiragana has been messily added to the top. ]

Everyone I've seen so far has gotten younger. You didn't have that much further to go.

[ It's said with a smirk aimed at Goten, but it's still true. Then again, he doesn't know many of the kids other than Goten.

Still, that gets a scoff. ] Your loss. That was yesterday. Surprised you didn't see me, actually. Apparently, little me really enjoyed escaping adults. [ Which should surprise no one. ]

Tingly, huh? [ He squints. ] All over? Or mostly in one spot?

[Indeed, his little god has returned with a smart little mouth on him. Though Reisi's amused, he's still perfectly composed and speaks politely, even patiently, with Shun.]

Oya? Is that the reason people call us that? Perhaps the sea is our origin, and we're free to pick ourselves up and move if we wish!

Okay, that doesn't really do anything to explain why you have a raccoon in the first place, but sure, we'll roll with that like it's one-hundred percent normal pet material.

[At her second comment, though, he quirks a brow before tilting his head a little to survey her over his glasses.]

Don't know what kind of telephone game you were playing with someone who knows me, but it's Dave Strider, not Davesprite. And any birds trying to involve themselves with me can fly right back into the asscrack of hell where those satanic motherfuckers are birthed from.

[Apparently, Dave is so used to this kind of senseless rambling that he doesn't need time to crunch the words - he just keeps spinning it out.]

Nice, I'll call the virgins I had on hold and let them know, getting the blood out of the carpet is always a spectacular shitshow. If you could write up some kind of supernatural shopping list for me, that'd be way more helpful than the vague as fuck suggestions you're throwing out there, also it'd help way more if I actually knew what the hell this region was other than undiscovered and seriously lacking in urban sprawl.

Also, how great are we talking for great events. Like, could I drop you a chunk of rock from wherever they faked the moon landing or is this full sword-in-the-stone tier we're asking right now.

[For all his language, Dave sounds barely offended at best - it's mostly just the principle of the thing, because wow, who the fuck acts like that on first meeting somebody.]

[Celestia feels she doesn't need to describe Luna -- how many other ponies could there be here?]

Oh! Well -- thank you. [While she isn't sure if she's hungry, she would hate to be rude. Celestia takes a bite of the carrot, chewing as she looks around the street.] Have you seen a backpack around here? I am missing mine.

[He sits up, blinking. His head doesn't hurt, but he's scraped and scuffed up everywhere, and although the shock of the fall kept him from noticing it hurt at first, he realizes when he looks down at his palms and sees he's scraped both of them trying to catch the branch on the way down.

They're bleeding a little bit.

Asato's chin wobbles, his eyes fill, and he hides his face in his arms before he bursts into tears.

He's way too old to cry. It doesn't even hurt that much!

But he wants somebody to wash his hands and tell him it's okay, and he doesn't even remember who that somebody should be, much less how to find her.]

I have, but not many places. Mostly where I remember being around here. Since I don't remember other things very well. [Now her hoof-focused introspection is all the more obvious, embarrassed as she is by losing her things and not even knowing where to look.]

[ Nothing can knock her down. Even in the form of a seven year old girl, she's still pretty steady on her feet. And there's a pout there, her arms folding across her chest. ]

[How unusual. Instead of smiling or laughing, this child is deadpanning at Reisi. Seeing that, he's now filled with conviction and resolve to change it for the better.]

[Celestia is starting to wonder where there are so many human children running around here, but that's of secondary concern at best...]

[As for why she's here...] These Heavens draw people in from other worlds, somehow. That's how you came to be here.

[It's not really surprising, and Maria looks increasingly concerned as she looks her over.]

...I don't know if it would fit perfectly, but if you don't mind, I could take you back to my temple to see if you can find anything of mine that you can wear. [Even something like a sundress, where minor height differences wouldn't matter so much.]

No, not at all. Some people here are, but others are brought here for other reasons, even though they're alive.

[And she's fairly certain Izuku was a god. She hasn't talked to him often, but she knows that much.]

I don't think you have anything to worry about there.
