Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



The product of many meetings and recommendations, at last it has taken shape. On this day, in anticipation of the new arrivals who appear in a recognized pattern, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

The shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. And in that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo.

Here the newly arrived gods are gathered, so finding their partner is more simple. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the aspects of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki, or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




Divine Bureaucracy

Wasn't it the newly revamped Shinki Agency's job to assign shinki this time... They thought it was the original team of Amaterasu's shinki's job this one last time before Shinki Agency took over the responsibility. Needless to say, when the shinki wake up at the Meeting Hall, there's a lot of shouting. Eventually, one of the Shinki Agency representatives herds the new shinki together and instructs them to please all go to Bishamonten's temple for the time being and they will send a runner with the god-shinki assignments as soon as they can.

New gods and old gods alike will not be notified that there is a mix-up unless they come to Bishamon's temple for Training, until the Shinki Agency can figure out what happened.

Important addendum: For this round, gods still have a vision of how their shinki died, however they can't make out any details, particularly about who they saw die.
Once a shinki of the Agency gives the god the name of their shinki, the god is then able to find them by name. Once they give their shinki a vessel name the god will have the full vision of how their shinki died.

This addition comes in response to some questions and need for clarification. Apologies and thank you for your input.

God Training

Bishamon herself, as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods, will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves get oriented with when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Bishamon's lead shinki Kazuma offers a lecture to new arrivals that will thoroughly cover some essential points about teamwork with both shinki and other gods.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) Essential for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
Also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

If you have the strength for it, then it's just as good as a more graceful weapon. Everyone has their advantages and disadvantages in combat.

[Maria herself is a bit more of an all-rounder, but even then, it means she'd have trouble facing up to someone with an advantage in either strength or agility. There are certain styles that can't be used or countered so easily with that in mind.]

That's right. I've never understood the people who think this is about themselves, or worse, about controlling others.

[Maria looks surprised for a moment, until she remembers the overaged goblins dotted around the place during the time snarl the other day.] It's a bit sad, but perhaps they'll get some actual organisation in there now.

[As unfortunate as Chikusa's logic is, Maria nods a little in agreement.] I see. In that case, yes, it's hard to really do anything but hope you come across the information you need.

[There's a bit of an apologetic grin at that, since it's a little sad exactly how typical this sort of thing is. It's not much of a surprise that something else got messed up so soon after information for incoming shinki got organised.]

It's usually even more disorganised, honestly. Normally the assignments go more smoothly, but until very recently shinki didn't get any information when they arrived except occasionally the name of their god. They had to rely on that god to tell them their role, and even then they wouldn't normally get vital elements like needing to learn borderlines or shinki-specific problems.

[All told, she sounds a little relieved that things have changed since then.]

I'm not sure if it counts as amnesia when it's done deliberately...but it is kind of a coincidence, isn't it?

[At the remark about fighting, Komaeda gives Garry a questioning look.] You know that about yourself already? Does that mean you've tried fighting with someone?

[ It's his constant thing to be afraid of himself. That's his schtick ]

Honestly, having never known what one was, I never really got that explanation. Instead I would just copy what they did and assume it worked like that. Here...

[ He's going to make the hand position and hold it out in front of the guy. ]

My hand's in front of you if you wanna check for yourself.

Oh no- not exactly. However, there is a rather large collection of weapons for people to use, ah, that way...? [He points roughly to the direction of the physical training area.] So I thought one of the things I should try to do if I'm going to protect, well, anyone is see if I could fight. Someone said that there was no need to think, just rely on muscle memory...

...But if my muscles knew anything, then they have worse amnesia than I do.

Teddie! Can I call you Mako-chan? [ Teddie seems to be very enthusiastic over the idea. ]

[And the way her lips press into a thin line may spoil some of that enthusiasm. Only Haru gets to call her that, and maybe Boss.]

Ah, I see! That makes sense. [Komaeda laughs lightly.] Well, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't really trust myself with those weapons, either. Knowing me, I'd probably have killed someone by accident!

[It sounds facetious and it really isn't.]

I'm afraid you've been assigned to a remarkably worthless god...

( Urashima's momentum has him turning to face towards Shun just in time to see the sword coming for him. His sword is in the wrong hand-- a reckless choice he'd knowingly made. But doesn't that open up another type of possibility for him too? An opportunistic sword, short enough to use in closed quarters but long enough to keep an opponent at arm's length if need be. It's a one-handed weapon that lets the wielder free to push and grab if necessary. Urashima is a noble spirit and he isn't going to turn this into a brawl but he'd be a fool to not use every opportunity available to him.

He maintains his momentum, moving with Shun, turning to face him directly and with his free hand, he reaches to grab or deflect Shun's sword hand as he comes in. If this was a real sword, he'd be using his sheath instead but given the circumstances, he supposes he can risk losing some imaginary fingers. All the while, he raises his sword in a straight, upward slice right for Shun's neck. Of course he isn't going to really hit there during a spar. Even if these are practice swords, the neck is a delicate part of the body. )

Hey, hey, you should try using both hands.

( Genuine advice offered in a playful, sing-song tone. )

[Well, a lot of people use that kind of exaggerated humor, don't they? Garry doesn't think much of it, especially when the following words come and he straightens up.]

Oh, I doubt that's true at all! I'm sure you'll be fine, once you get the hang of this. That's probably why this kind of thing is in place: to help new people get used to being thrust into such a strange situation.

And, although I'm not sure how helpful I'll be, I'll do my best to assist you too.

Aspiring to be weak would be fucking stupid. Those who don't try to get strong are too.

[ But he doesn't have anything but fighting, as far as he knows. He had some weird powers the two days he was a teenager, but that's gone with his eyesight. And honestly, losing those powers was a relief, for some reason. ]

[ He at least has a fair bit of stamina. ]

[ Time for him to give up his stick then. ]

[ But Ao is a guy carrying an old sword so old time weapons are a given to him. Tell him about guns and he'll be clueless.

He hesitates a little because this is weird but it's better than what his previous instructor tried. So he reaches out to see touch for himself. ]

How the hell is this resembling a halberd?

Maybe common to you.

[ Well, then it's a good thing that this is weird for everyone involved. There's no way he could've predicted that someone would be touching his hand like this to figure out how to make a borderline. ]

There's no way for me to know. That's just what people keep likening it to. Point is, when making a borderline, you do that and make a swiping motion while saying 'line.' You should be able to sense it when done right- I know that I don't have to see mine to know where they are and if they're weakening.

[ If there's anything that's his weakness, it's a move like that. Maybe if he still had his memory, he'd have been more prepared by it, having been taken out by something similar once by a certain dark-haired Silver Clansmen, but as it is, he takes the blow hard, breath wheezing out of him.

But he's quick to try and recover, never stopping despite the sharp blow. He uses it instead, dropping and rolling out of Shun's range before hopping back to his feet, crouched in a defensive pose this time, ready for another attack even as he takes a moment to try and catch his breath, careful of his now-tender midsection. ]

I'm Thanatos! [More joyfully that he probably should be. This is a pretty big deal to him, but he is still Death...and now a death god for that matter.] B-but my name is Emizel, s-so...

[This uh, dual identity thing is already going to get confusing.]

At least he's figured out what to do with his hand now. ]

That's fucking ridiculous. [ Likening it to a halberd, that is. But saying something like "line" is pretty lame too. ] And how exactly does it feel when it's 'done right'?

[ Well, he didn't make the rules on this. It is dumb and lame, but it's necessary. Apparently. ]

You just kinda end up being aware of it. Like it's connected in some way, but you're not really touching it or anything.

[ There is doubt on his face, which is directed toward Shizuo. He can't see the other, nor convey emotions with his eyes, but it's clear enough on the rest of his face. Then he runs a hand through his hair and sighs in annoyance. ]

Fine, so it's something you can't explain or some shit like that.
