What: Prayer #43, caring for some animals


[Admittedly, Emizel was a bit bummed out that he didn't see any animals when he first arrived to the scene. They were merely strays though, he had to remember; so it's not like any of them actually lived here. A bit disappointing but he did as promised and made sure there was food waiting for them.]

[And waited. ...Maybe it was an extra step on his part, but gotta be thorough and make sure they would come after all.]

[Eventually a short haired cat jumped the fence and caught the demon's attention. Finally, he accomplished something! He stood up to go greet it but the cat immediately scurried when he got too close. ...His mood had been crushed.]

[Why is your luck terrible?

Toushirou slowly approaches him, making enough noise to at least alert the other god of his presence.]

Is something the matter?

[He takes in the food dish briefly before he looks at Emizel.]

[To be fair there could be a valid reason why the universe hates him.]

[Though he does briefly tremble a bit. Yeeeep he knew who dis is.]

--Nothing's the matter. [He, toughens up with a rebuttal. Nothing about Toushirou so far really spells out that he's the sympathetic, understanding type. It he found out that Emizel was upset over a cat it'll just make him even weaker...than he already is. It's bad for his demon dignity too.]

[You're a demon. Have more faith in yourself.

Toushirou looks over when he hears a soft mewl, noticing a tiny kitten just peering at them. It seems nervous to come over, eyes flickering over between the two of them.

He crouches down with a hand stretched out.]

Are you helping take care of strays? [The question is directed at Emizel.]

[That's going to take some time too.]

[However-- The kitten caught his surprise. Kind of wondering how long it's been hiding. It's so smaaall~]

Yeah. At least, for a little while. [Because he totally has more important big business stuff to do than...play with kittens. Y-yes.]

[He doesn't say anything for a moment, eyes focused on the kitten with his hand outstretched.]

They need a little time to adjust to strangers.

[Toushirou speaks as if from experience, but doesn't move when the kitten finally moves forward to sniff his fingers curiously.]

Come here, but move slowly. [A glance back at Emizel. For once, he doesn't really sound authoritative, and won't push if he doesn't want to come any closer.

[Emizel sees this, though he can't believe what he's seeing. ...Please don't tell him that you had experience with this.]

[Confused at best, but whatever Toushirou is doing is working. Emizel for once believes him a little to come closer. The kitten is startled, especially when he crouched back down slowly, but it doesn't run. Back to sniffing around in fact.]

[Not experience, but something similar.

Toushirou continues to remain still, watching the kitten go to Emizel to sniff at him. Eventually, it seems to settle down and lose its wariness as it mewls at them, looking up at the two gods with big eyes.]

[Oh gosh. It's so...s-so...]

[Emizel gave the kitten more time to settle before he showed it his hand. Did not have to do anything next either, since he felt a furry head nudge into it. He could feel it purring too.] ...He's pretty friendly.

[His expression remains soft as he takes in the sight of the kitten.]

He is. Maybe you can convince him to eat. He looks like he hasn't eaten anything at all recently.

[He scritches behind the ears] Hmm...

...C'mon, you'll eat something right? Aren't you hungry?

[...Yes he's expecting it to answer.]

[The kitten tilts his head.

Toushirou would be more surprised if the kitten talks back, honestly, but he'll let Emizel work on convincing the kitten. Lifting his head, he scans the area to see if there were any more strays lurking by.]

[Nothing?] ...Maybe it's too cold. Or too dry?

[While moving the bowl he checked the contents inside. Kittens are well, small, so maybe they had a harder time eating it. ...Or they just don't want to because it's something different.]

[Was there something else around they could feed them?]

If it's too dry, it'll have some trouble eating. Maybe try adding some milk to it.

[He gently nudges the kitten towards the bowl.]

[Milk? Oh-- he did bring that, just a small bottle though. It might not be that cold anymore either but if it just needs to be soaked into the food.]

[And being careful not to pour too much.] There, will you eat it now?

[Stiiiill talking to it.]

[Look, he's not going to strike up a conversation if Emizel doesn't want to talk to him. At least he's still listening.

The kitten does wander closer to the bowl now, sniffing at the food before beginning to eat. Satisfied that it's at least eating, Toushirou walks over to the fence when another cat comes by. It hisses at Toushirou for getting close, but he simply looks up at it.]

It's alright. He simply wants to help you all.

[Better than nothing at all. There wasn't exactly much to say and besides, there was cats. And one of them actually likes Emizel now.]

[Though, he supposes there was a reason why for that.]

...Kinda surprised you'd be doing something like this.

[He was still feeling a bit off put from earlier.]

[After managing to get the feisty cat to stop hissing at him, he brings it over to the food bowl.

He's quiet for a moment.]

I'm not terrible enough to leave strays like this.

[But he could see why Emizel would think of that.]

....I owe you an apology for how our first meeting went.

[...Wait what]

[That seemingly came out of no where. He can assume that Toushirou was telling the truth... That would be some high level demon douchebaggery to be faking an apology. But, what for? Why now?]

[He doesn't turn to look at Emizel, keeping his eyes focused on the strays that slowly coming closer.

Eventually, he does glance over at Emizel when the silence goes on for too long. Has he stunned you that much?]

[....He thought Toushirou was going to say more. Damn, he waited too long? Was that the one chance to redeem himself? Did he already screw it up? Quick, time to look down at the cats and pretend to be busy!]

I mean...You seemed pretty convinced about what you said earlier.

[A blink before he looks back at the cats.]

I still stand by my words, but I still want to apologize.

[Because they're different. Emizel doesn't seem to be the sort like him.]

...My beliefs shouldn't be pushed onto you.

[...Pretty sure Emizel could've told him that. Then again, it still might not be the worst thing done to him recently.]

He crouches down when another cat comes limping, hand outstretched as he helps it along to the bowl.]

Why is that?

[Emizel's playing with one of the kittens now. It seems to really like bopping at him.]

I only really learned how to seriously fight recently. [We're looking at about a year maybe? Even that might be too generous. Either way it doesn't look too good when you're a thirteen hundred year old.]

Before that I could barely do anything at all. [Sure, he knew a couple weak spells, but that was all.]

What made you decide to fight more seriously then if that's the case?
