July Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: August 5
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods (although there's none this time) and shinki

The product of many meetings and recommendations, at last it has taken shape. On this day, in anticipation of the new arrivals who appear in a recognized pattern, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

The shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. And in that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo.
Here the newly arrived gods are gathered, so finding their partner is more simple. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the aspects of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki, or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Bishamon herself, as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods, will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves get oriented with when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Bishamon's lead shinki Kazuma offers a lecture to new arrivals that will thoroughly cover some essential points about teamwork with both shinki and other gods.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) Essential for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
Also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

Ah, I see. [He'll just borrow that and skim, don't mind him. He hasn't taken a close look at the shinki version, although he read the god's brochure.]

Hmm... well. You won't encounter many ayakashi in the Heavens; most of them are in the human world. Be careful when you're there.

[He turns the brochure over, still reading, until at last he glances up with a cheerful smile.]

Why don't you practice your borderline, while you're at it? The action is easy, but you do need to believe it's possible. It also helps to be afraid of, or disgusted by, the threat you're protecting yourself from.
trashcrash: (yeah dont think thats how it works)

[It's not handing over the brochure he minds, it's the casual mention of--] Human world? Wait, so we can actually return to the human world?!

[He'll just-- snatch that brochure right back and go through it, more carefully this time. So was that what the whole stuff about thr Far Shore and the Near Shore was about?]

Right. I knew that.

[He'll just. Go wih the other topic this guy brought up to save what little he can of his pride.]

Practice... r-right. [He looks at his hand and laughs, dryly.] Man, if being afraid is all it takes, it shouldn't be that difficult. [And then he stops.] Not that I'm afraid or anything! But you know, most people would be afraid of monsters.

Sometimes practicing in a nice, safe environment like this one just doesn't give you the right motivation, it's true.

[Not, of course, that Yosuke is afraid. (Ah, teenagers. Their pride is so fragile.)

Hakkai smiles mildly.]

That's what everything about the Near Shore means, yes, but it doesn't mean you can go back to being human. People there won't see you unless you try very hard or they're unusually gifted.
trashcrash: (im so sads my mouth is gone)

Dunno about the 'nice' part. [Or the safe part, after that whole ayakashi talk. Even if they're less likely to pop up here, he's still feeling a bit paranoid now.]

And... I figured. [He sighs.] If going back to being human was that easy, doubt there'd be this many people around. [Although being human does admittedly sound boring compared to all of this.

He's... not sure he likes the fact that people won't see him though. In fact, it sounds almost terrifying.]

Doesn't that get lonely? You know, not being seen by anyone?
reformedsinner: (mister manners)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-07-24 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hakkai just smiles. No, it's not really nice in the Heavens, and it's not really safe. Bishamon's temple may be one of the safer places, but when Amaterasu herself has had her temple burned down, it's not a good idea to trust in the protection of lesser gods.

Still, this isn't the right place to explain his deadpan sarcasm. He'll answer the other half of Yosuke's complaint instead.]

You can be seen, but not remembered.

I don't recommend looking to the living for companionship.

[It's a very good thing Yosuke didn't catch the sarcasm and has no idea about the temple burning - or he would be glancing over his shoulder for possible monsters right about now.]

Not remembered... [It's not that big of a surprise, he figures, considering he doesn't remember anything about himself either.

He entertains a chuckle, even if it's a bit forced.]

At least nobody'll remember any of my screw ups, either. [For some reason, he feels he had quite a few.] And at least there won't be a shortage of companions among the dead. There's... a bunch of us here.

[He looks around in silence for a moment, then--] You... have any idea how they choose who ends up here and who doesn't?
reformedsinner: (mister manners)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-07-31 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
No. I find I can usually keep someone's attention while I'm talking directly to them, but they forget my presence quickly if I stop.

... although children, the very elderly and animals see us fairly well.

[He smiles slightly.] I suppose it's true that it's easiest for them to see ghosts!

As for how they choose us...

[That's a question that's much more challenging to answer, and Hakkai's smile fades into a serious expression as he meets Yosuke's gaze.]

In part, I think, it's random. But it also seems that souls who have connections to people here are more likely to appear.

[It's the only theory he has to explain why, of all the living and dead of an unknown number of worlds, this place would have among its number people who sometimes know one another.]
trashcrash: (yeah dont think thats how it works)

[personal profile] trashcrash 2017-08-06 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Children, elderly and... animals? Man, what do all those have in common? Poor bladder?

[You would, Yosuke.

... He supposes he's heard that all those are more sensitive to the supernatural, though. He wonders what else is true.

But when the other grows more serious, so does Yosuke. Random is not the answer he hoped, even if it's one he expected. But the second part...]

Connections? [He tilts his head, puzzled.] You mean... my soul's connected to someone here?
reformedsinner: (as a matter of fact!)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-06 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You could say they're closer to not being alive! [Children in one direction, and the elderly in the other... oh, is that a little morbid? Hakkai adds more seriously:]

Or that they have fewer preconceptions about the world than busy adults, and so it's easier for them to see what's really there.

Not everyone has some sort of connection to someone already here, but I know some gods have known one another -- and it's a very large world, isn't it? I can't imagine why we'd have any souls here who know each other at all if that doesn't make a difference.
