July Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: August 5
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods (although there's none this time) and shinki

The product of many meetings and recommendations, at last it has taken shape. On this day, in anticipation of the new arrivals who appear in a recognized pattern, Heaven has partnered with the new gods and shinki to organize a very helpful informational reception.

The shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided kindly towards Bishamon's temple. And in that vast complex they are brought to a traditional-style dojo.
Here the newly arrived gods are gathered, so finding their partner is more simple. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the aspects of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki, or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Bishamon herself, as well as Amaterasu's ever-present shinki and any volunteering gods, will be the foremost source of information regarding being a god and what is expected of them, such as prayers. It is encouraged that gods group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Newly arrived gods are still expected to communicate to their shinki the information* they themselves get oriented with when they arrive.

Shinki Training

Various volunteers are stationed around the building, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. There are many shinki, including Bishamon's and Amaterasu's, who will be more than happy to train in using the borderline and some of the basics of what is expected of a shinki. It is encouraged that shinki group up together to practice what they've learned and discuss their ideologies.
Bishamon's lead shinki Kazuma offers a lecture to new arrivals that will thoroughly cover some essential points about teamwork with both shinki and other gods.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern. There are volunteers here as well, willing to assist in basic training. (Or even more advanced sparring, depending on the volunteer.) Essential for gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes.
Also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

Rest and Refreshments

There is a garden off the dojo that is free to be used for rest and conversation.
Should anyone wander outside the designated area, some shinki of Bishamon's will attach themselves to them and not leave them be until they return to the dojo.

There is a refreshments table provided. It is covered with light snacks and various kinds of hydrating drinks. There is a little sitting area set up for people to relax in after they have finished their training or if they're just taking a quick break to cool down. Even hand towels are provided by Bishamon's helpful shinki. The Heavens wants everyone to stay in good condition!

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Don't get dehydrated
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

[Shun had figured it would be that with Lavi asking - he'd always gotten the impression that the other man would be capable in that sort of thing. Something about the way he holds himself, the subtle details Shun tries to pull out from people as soon as he meets them.

Looking Lavi over, he turns the practice blade in his hand.]

Then pick sword or hand-to-hand. I'm a hell of a lot better at the second, but I'm not going to get that good with the first unless I keep practicing with it either.

[Ultimately, it's up to whatever Lavi prefers, since he doesn't feel strongly either way.]

[Lavi rubs the back of his head, thinking carefully.]

The latter I'm used to, too. But [He goes over to pick up a pair of practice blades that resemble more like daggers.] blades against blades will suffice, right? I'm not used to swords, but I'm more familiar with fighting against swords, at least.

[Especially if Shun wants to work more on his swordsmanship.]

[Given Shun both uses a short sword and carries a dagger on him all the time, he doesn't have an issue with using blades that short, and he nods slightly in agreement with the suggestion.]

That's fine. I need it more with shorter blades anyway. [The saber practice is mostly if he gets into some kind of trouble and needs to borrow Reisi's sword. Even if it'll be closer to a blunt object given it seems to be locked into the sheath.]

There are more experienced sword users here than I figured there'd be. [It's half why he started learning, but it also helps in finding good partners.]

Swords to be a common weapon around here. I know another god who's good with a sword.

[A giant sword at that.

But Lavi holds the daggers in his hands more comfortable and securely before he looks at Shun.]

Ready then?

I've met a few people familiar with them. They haven't been in wide use in my world for a long time, but people still learn it as a sport. [Given carrying an actual sword around is likely to get someone thrown in prison where he comes from.

Bringing his short practice blade up once again, Shun eyes Lavi with a level look and a subtle preparedness.]
Don't ask stupid questions.

[Translation: yes.]
lostinshadows: ([06] Oh we have felt it all)

[personal profile] lostinshadows 2017-07-23 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds a bit more like Kendo.

[But at the answer has him smirking.

Without another word, he charges at Shun, one of the practice blade aiming for a swipe at his side.]
revolutionfalcon: (reactive)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-23 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That and fencing. [So he's on the right track there, at least. But Shun isn't one to carry on casual conversation into a spar, and that air of readiness pays off immediately as Shun sidesteps and parries, aiming to get behind Lavi and deliver a quick slash of his own before disengaging.]
lostinshadows: ([57])

[personal profile] lostinshadows 2017-07-23 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lavi spins before Shun can deliver that slash, parrying it with his other blade. He presses against Shun's blade briefly before he makes an attempt to push him back.]
revolutionfalcon: (high ground)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-24 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[As Lavi may notice with that attempt, Shun's stance is solid and well-grounded - his hand-to-hand experience along with sparring with some more experienced swordfighters has served him well there. Pushing him back is fairly unlikely, but Shun doesn't consider remaining engaged to be a particular advantage either.

As such, as soon as he gets the opportunity, he slips his blade out at an angle to make it harder to quickly retaliate and executes a not-insignificant flip backwards, landing neatly before using the recoil to dart in again at a different angle for a jab this time.]
lostinshadows: ([03] And beat the drums to)

[personal profile] lostinshadows 2017-07-24 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[When Shun goes in for that jab, Lavi is quick to parry it with his other blade before jumping back in order to put some distance between them. However, he doesn't leave much distance there for long since he comes back to go for a jab.]
revolutionfalcon: (dramatic wind)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-25 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[It seems like their styles aren't dissimilar so far - Shun makes a similar move to what Lavi just countered with, his parry a little more forceful and with the intent to knock the blade aside. This time, though, he doesn't choose to step back, pressing his luck with an attempt at a backhanded slash off the parry.]
lostinshadows: ([61])

[personal profile] lostinshadows 2017-07-25 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[His grip on the blade being parried off slacks a bit, enough to make it seem as if Shun will be able to knock the blade out of his hand. However, his other blade goes up to press against Shun's blade, locking it between Lavi's own two blades.]
revolutionfalcon: (distinctly unthreatened)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-26 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[On one hand, that is a good blade lock, and Shun's first reaction isn't to try and twist his blade out.

On the other, his first reaction is to instead twist his lower half slightly and lash out with a brutal kick in the direction of Lavi's side abdomen in an attempt to make the grip falter. With the flexibility of the movement, it's probably just lucky he didn't try to kick him in the head.]
lostinshadows: ([39])

[personal profile] lostinshadows 2017-07-28 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Shun, why are you like this.

However, with that kick being aimed at him, Lavi's forced to release Shun's blade, possibly losing one of his own in the process. He jumps back in time to avoid that kick, but doesn't stay for long as he comes at Shun again, this time a bit faster.]
revolutionfalcon: (retaliatory)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2017-07-28 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Shun definitely twists his own blade when Lavi has to release his, increasing the chance of him losing one on the way out of that lock. It feels a bit more even this way, and Shun's ready for Lavi when he comes again, seemingly prepared for the speed.

Though he could probably sidestep, this time he remains in one place, choosing to see what the actual move is that Lavi makes and test himself on deciding what block to make in good time.]
