[open + mingle] at least let's sing "i love you"

Who: Maria and anyone who wants to come to the karaoke bar!
When: August 7th, evening to late
Where: A karaoke bar in Shibuya - details were provided in a public network post here.
What: Open karaoke night mingle! All welcome for singing, drinks and general mingling shenanigans.

[The place that Maria has settled on for this outing is a fairly simple, but neat karaoke parlour on a major street in Shibuya. It shouldn't be difficult to find for anyone interested in joining in the karaoke night she suggested on the BBS a few days ago, and there are a variety of options to choose from once there.]

[Single Booths]

[Shy singers have the advantage of being able to take a room to themselves, where they can practice for a while before getting the confidence up to sing in a group later on. Try not to spend too long in there, though - someone might be inclined to come encourage you into a group song on the way out.

On the other hand, if you just want a particular person as your audience, that's an option here too. After all, it's unlikely the staff are going to notice a second person joining any Far Shore resident in the rooms, and sometimes you just need that extra reassurance that you can sing in front of someone else.]

[Group Singing]

[Of course, there's also the option of gathering together a bunch of friends who want to sing together and going all-out with them instead of doing it alone. No matter your skill level, there's no shame here - especially not from Maria, who'll be standing by to flesh out any groups who might need an extra person or two to get rolling.

Though taking up the stage too long with just one person is frowned upon, that just means it's encouraged for every member of the group to get a go. Pick your song (there's a variety of English songs as well as Japanese on there, for anyone who's more familiar with those) and pretend you're belting out a performance of it where nobody else can hear you. Or pretend you have an audience of thousands, if that's more your speed.]

[Refreshments]

[Unsurprisingly, there's a restaurant and bar area inside for anyone who wants to sit things out for a while and unwind with some food and drink. It's not too expensive, but the food is good and the service is quick once you can actually catch the attention of the waitstaff.

The bar has drinks for all ages, soft drinks for younger participants and a variety of alcohol for anyone older. Anyone who wants to get a little buzzed before taking up the microphone isn't going to have too hard a time of it as long as they're old enough.

Later in the night, Maria retreats there herself for a while for a late dinner. Anyone who approaches her will get a soft smile and a gesture to join her at the table.]

[Wild]

[Something else you want to do in the bar? There's a lot of options, so feel free to make up other prompts and scenarios to your liking!]

Refreshments

[Tsuzuki's hanging out at a table near-ish the stage with a tall drink that has an umbrella and a fruit skewer in it, and working his way earnestly down the drink with occasional breaks to eat a piece of pineapple or a cherry off his skewer.

This is exactly the kind of relaxing Sunday night he likes, and, rather to his surprise, most of the singers are really good.

He's developing a bit of a flush as the alcohol sets in, but he's still sober enough to happily wave anyone who looks like they're looking for a spot to one of the empty seats at his table.]

Hey, how're you doing? This was a great party idea, huh?

Group Singing

[He's five drinks in by the time the song he cued up comes up on the list, and he brightens instantly, bouncing to his feet and heading for the stage. The last singer hands over their microphone.

Waving eagerly, Tsuzuki strikes a pose in the center of the stage as the first notes ring out, and then begins to sing at the top of his lungs.]

Linda Linda...!

[What is this song choice? Is he secretly a sixty-year-old salaryman?

At least he's more or less in tune, even if his shirt's got the top two buttons undone and his tie's almost fallen off. Look: he got overheated, it's summer and he's been drinking, it seemed reasonable at the time.]

[Alex had seen the bbs post Maria had made. At first she decided against going, but at the last minute changed her mind. She needed a drink anyway.

Sitting at the bar she turns the martini glass between her fingers. Every now and then she would look behind her to watch people around her enjoying themselves. It was a pleasant sight. She fer comfortable in this setting too since it was a familiar scene.]

[Single Booth]
[After another glass Alex worked up the courage to sing--in the private room. She's sung in frnt of an audience before, but just for work. Right now she just wanted to sing for herself, to unwind and relax. She hadn't been letting herself do that.

She was glad to see songs she knew on the list too. Picking a familiar ballad, Alex takes another sip of her drink before starting on song number two.]

[Well, this wasn't exactly as relaxing as she'd thought it was. Patchouli is already a poor fit at parties, but she felt like it was in her best interest to socialize -- or maybe someone had suggested it. Can't spend all her time in a library, right? Despite her wishes.

Still. She didn't think she had much of a singing voice, and probably wouldn't be able to for very long (it was probably quite acceptable while she was actually singing, though). As a result, she hadn't really joined in with the other people singing. She's just occupying herself, for the moment, with a drink. This is a perfect time to come break up that whole "by herself" thing and maybe push her onto a stage or something.]

[The Wallflower]

[Celty...isn't quite sure why she's here. She saw the post and she tabbed through it but she hadn't bothered responding. And then her wanderings that evening just happened to take her by the Karaoke parlor. One thing led to another from there and now she found herself sitting somewhat awkwardly on a back couch while the others sang and laughed and enjoyed their drinks.

Eventually her stillness is broken by a defeated headbob. Her helmet shakes side to side, 'what was I thinking', and then she gets up with clear intent to leave, though hopefully without disturbing the fun anyone else is having.

1. Refreshments

[ Elfnein is drinking some juice and trying to work up the courage to sing with everyone. Songs are wonderful and can connect everyone, but she's not a singer like Maria or Tsubasa so the fear of failing is making it hard for her to give it a try. ]

2. Group singing

[ Picking a song is hard, Elfnein doesn't know what songs are popular or even still "hip" to sing. There's always defaulting to singing something that everyone else picks but it kinda sucks the fun out if it.]

I'm not sure what to sing.

[ Refreshments - Perfect PitchHer ]

Hahhh.

[ Hibiki closes her eyes. She doesn't want to be here. But her temple is currently still in the throes of some sort of - stubborn haunting incident - and therefore has become less palatable, as well. Thus, while she is here under duress, she also hasn't made much of an escape attempt yet.

Yet.

She does not realize that a pitcher of water from the waiting area has started levitating, and is on its way over, heading for directly above her head... ]

[ Group Singing - The Emperor's New Groove ]

No.

[ That's it. That's all you get for asking Hibiki to sing with you. But that doesn't seem necessarily like an obstacle, right? If you push harder - ]

Do you honestly think I'd cheapen the experience of witnessing my overwhelming live presence for my fans by unleashing my abilities at this paltry venue? I refuse.

[ Okay. Maybe not. ]

[ Group Singing - Anyway, Here's WonderPri ]

Everyone, I've kept you waiting. But - your suffering is over.

[ Hibiki is standing up here in something she probably thinks is street clothes with a guitar. Honestly, she really, really, really hadn’t wanted to do this - but. She’s getting it over with, and now that she’s committed, she’s going to deliver the very best karaoke the planet’s history has ever witnessed.

Her smug, sharp, confident smile beams out to every member of the room. ]
Allow a true genius whose talents span multitudes to show you the real meaning of karaoke.

[ The karaoke machine starts up. The tiny mirror ball in the ceiling starts turning. Hibiki opens her mouth.

Her lips are forming the first syllable of her chosen song when there is a ZAP sound and the whole room goes dark. ]

What?!

[ The karaoke machine is dead, too. And, since this is a room reserved by and for folks from the Far Shore, the chances of anyone coming to investigate this power outage are slim… ]

[ Single Booths ]

Prompt A:

[ Tatara has a song he’d like to sing most of all. Something specific. Naturally, they don’t have it; of course they wouldn’t. Why? Because he wrote it. Though it doesn’t feel the same without a guitar to strum along with, or the group of people he wrote it for, they are (almost) all here on these shores together somewhere -- and that’s enough.

So, in a solo booth, he’ll be going full a cappella with this number. ]

Prompt B:

[ Or, alternately, he’s wandered into another solo booth, mischievous sort that he is, drawn by the sound of a sweet voice. When the song ends -- and only then -- he makes himself known by quietly applauding. ]

You have a lovely voice! Has anyone ever told you that before?

[ Group Singing ]

[ He didn’t come with company, and knows few -- if any -- people here. That, however, won’t stop this smiling face from aimlessly wandering into the group area, hanging along the periphery in wait to listen and enjoy, and also see if anyone should need his assistance.

He has a lovely singing voice, after all, and he’s more than happy to be abruptly dragged on-stage to join in. This is all win-win for him. ]

[ Refreshments ]

[ Tatara’s not a huge drinker and, having a bartender as a best friend, never in short supply of the stuff. Ergo, he hadn’t planned to partake, but... he’s having a good time here, familiar company or no, and the music’s got him in a mood to celebrate and relax. Booze pairs well with that. (Plus, the bartender is just too sweet! Yet, also a bit of a salesman, too.)

So, he bellies up and orders. Just one thing -- just one -- and he’ll be set for the night. He should still turn in at a good hour, after all, lest someone wonder where he ran off to. But then, there’s someone next to him, and, kind soul that he is, Tatara just can’t help himself. ]

Hi there! Would you like something? I’ll gladly pay for it.

[ Is he flirting, or just friendly? That’s a common question with him. ]

[ Wildcard ]

[ sing along with him and let’s go go go~! ]

Group Singing Attempt #1

[Nike has been in the building ever since the beginning of the event. She was very excited to get the chance to sing with everyone. Even, going as far as learning a handful of songs for the occasion, so she was filled with endless energy to get started. Too bad that very energy can to anxiety and have her overthinking everything.

She can easily be found in the nearest corner, closest to the stage, pretending to look through the music catalog in an attempt to buy herself some time.]

Group Singing Attempt #2

[Growing annoyed at her own uselessness, Nike has had enough of it! She wanted to sing with someone. She came with the purpose of having a good time with her friends while making new friends through the power of music too. How many opportunities will she have in going to the places she was in with very little income? Not a lot.

That's why she'll turn to the closest person in the room. If they have had the chance to sing or not didn't matter to her because she wanted to have and give everyone a good time. She'll ask out loud.]

Do you want to sing with me? I've been meaning to get a turn, but...I don't have a partner. [Or various partners. She doesn't mind the idea of forming a small group to have fun with.]

Solo Singing #3

[Once Nike has gain enough confidence in singing with other people, or whoever was willing to join her, she can be found on stage by herself for a special number known as "Waiting for the Rain".

It was clear from the way she was putting as much emotion into her performance that she has definitely practice the song enough to know it by heart. Something about the song must have resonanted with her. Whatever the case, she was having a good time singing as the anxiety from before can't be heard in her current performance.

By the time the performance is over, Nike will give a bow before bolting off the stage as she can't help begin to silently wonder if her singing was good enough or not.]

Refreshments Scene Take 1

[Deciding to take a break from all of the singing and playing some background instruments offered by the business, Nike can be found over at the restaurant and bar with great interest as she can't help feeling starving after wasting so much energy before. Singing really has a way to waste energy!

However, Nike will be reminded that she didn't have a whole lot of money to use on any meal or drinks she wanted, leaving her feeling concern over it. Should she buy the cheapest items on the menu or head on over to a convenient store to get more food and drinks than she would in a restaurant?

It was difficult to decide when she knew so little about the menu too. The idea of sneaking into the area to get a glimpse at the menu will be thought of, but...]

Would it be okay to do that? I'm not exactly stealing, but...

[She has no idea on what to do.]
