Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[No hurry, of course. Celestia is nothing but patience and serenity; it practically radiates from her.]

How unfortunate. I would've liked to see how your magic would've fared against mine's.

[But considering that this shinki doesn't even really know how much power he holds...Toushirou figures it's better that way.

Either way, he keeps his face impassive enough to show it doesn't bother him. Besides, he recognizes that sort of clothing as something Alibaba wears and it just generally makes him feel uneasy.]

Not too long actually.

[Rubbing the back of his neck, his tone turns sheepish.]

Roughly a month, I believe, but it feels longer than that.

Man, with a request like that. You like names getting called out too, yeah?

[ He pulls the wand out of his top, but pauses in thought. Sure, he knows a lot, but how much could he do? Which sounds basic enough... Ah, maybe that one- it sounds preschool level. As he focuses a bit, Hitsugaya will notice that despite the overwhelming amount of energy he clearly has, or has access to, there's a smaller second source that he's pulling form. ]

[ He felt it almost do something, and could practically see the energy disperse and go 'nah.'

This is what happens when a blue type tries to cast red magic. ]

Huh. Guess fire's not my thing. Man, there's a lot to go through.

Alright. This name seems to be special, so it would only make sense that it takes some careful consideration.

[Ignis understands the logic in patience and careful thought. He is also in no hurry if she feels it's necessary to wait.]

You mentioned that my other purpose is to..."humanize" you for lack of better word. Is being a shinki a sort of advisory position as well?

[He can feel it. It's not the same as reiatsu being gathered, the particles of spiritual energy being used, but at the same time, it was. It's why his eyes narrows briefly, sensing the two sources of energy that Judar has access to. He's not sure what the second source is, but it does make him a bit on edge.

When the magic fails, however, he blinks once.]

Ice magic is one thing you can try. [Toushirou, stop.

He holds out his hand, gathering reiatsu - something Judar can probably sense even though it's not the same - in his palm to form a smaller and weaker version of shakoho.] But it's a shame you can't figure out everything yet.

Hm...That's certainly enough time to get a feel for a place in the very least, isn't it?

[He pauses for a moment.]

Heaven... I would assume that it is quite a vast place, correct? How is the navigation? Surely we're not traversing among clouds or prismatic walkways.

[Or whatever lofty idea that people generally have about "heaven".]

It can be, but the Far Shore means that fairly directly. If you feel negative emotions, I too will feel them. If you feel guilt, then I will actually suffer the same sort of ailment that ayakashi can inflict on us, a corruption called 'blight'. So in this way, a god who makes a shinki act in ways that would cause him to feel guilt is punished for doing so.

[Though she expects this not to come up at all. What at all could she do, being her, that would cause him guilt?]

[ Oh, he's definitely watching and seeing how that's happening and is paying attention. ]

Ice, huh?

[ Give him a bit, he's sorting through things. It's sort of like someone tossing through several books to find the right one in his head, and he's trying to trace it all down properly. So that'd be water magic, collecting it all and...

Ah. Thalk Al-Salos would be easy enough.

As he's recalling the order of commands, he's channeling it through the same smaller source of energy, and starts to form a spear of ice in the air. Except, given the small pool he's pulling from, this spear is about the size of a dog instead of a small house.

Until it shatters and everything disperses once again. His body isn't strong enough for what he's trying, because of course it's his nature to try and go big. ]

Man, how lame. Better than the heat magic, at least.

You might want to try small before you aim big. Your mind may be full of it, but your body doesn't seem ready to handle it yet.

[And ah--

This would be his luck, though, to have another ice user in the form of this guy. In any case, the kidou disappears from his hand, dispersing back into nothingness and he drops his hand back down to his side.]

It'd be interesting to see how much you can actually do with that.

Hope you don't think twice about this tiny white-haired god who has been hanging around the training area for a while and...has possibly caused a few of the stray, possessed weapons to break apart.]

Well, I also just woke up after dying. I'm pretty spent.

[ Which just makes it all the more clear that he doesn't know how to access that larger power just yet. It's just a matter of time, though. For now he's going to pocket away that wand. Man, he's hungry now. ]

Maybe another time after I've had real food, instead of the crap they're offering.

Not really an excuse.

[He's technically dead. And a ghost. He's fine.

Toushirou shrugs, though.]

Good luck finding somewhere to eat. Usually they have better food than this.

[Passive-aggressive insults are one option on the table. On the other hand-- as dire as the situation here is, Hakkai finds himself momentarily speechless with relief on seeing a familiar shaggy blond haircut and an equally familiar poisonous glare.

Sharak is reliable, of course, but he doesn't know her. Genjo Sanzo, by now, he knows.

And with no way home, no useful memories of this place, Gojyo not speaking to him as a result of the world's most belated moral qualms, and no obvious path of action, Hakkai can admit that a known and trusted leader is exactly what he needs.

He swipes one of the vitamin drinks from the table and heads towards Sanzo, offering it on an open palm.

In a helpful tone:]

It's supposed to promote healing.

Sure it is.

[ Not that he really knows anything more than that he died. Eating is a great way of getting energy back, but aside from that whole thing, he's also not even tapping into his much larger source of energy.

In the end, this is ultimately because Judar's body is weak right now. ]

You saw too, right? Man, the food sucked and they were trying to peddle these weird tonics as actual drinks. Who'd even fall for that?

[Ignis's eyebrows raise at that. To think that the bond between them will run that deeply once he is named. So far, he doesn't sense any malice from her. In fact, she radiates a kind of serenity that puts him more at ease given the circumstances. It's no wonder that the naming will need a careful mind.]

I will do well to keep myself in check then. I wouldn't want to burden you with a plague of ill emotions.

[Though, he finds himself to be calm even in this situation, so perhaps neither of them have anything to worry about.]

A lighter question: What are you representative of as a god?

You could be just weak in general.

[Not that...that's helping.

Oh well.

Toushirou crosses his arms.]

Many people, really. Or those who actually believe in those sort of things.

Oh come on, no way.

[ Look at his muscles, chibi. Is that the look of a weak person? Well, you've got the lowest strength score in the Ren household and you're slow as shit on foot. One day he'll show you just how strong he really is.

Judar just doesn't know how long it'll be until that day. ]

Yeah, well the people who believe in that are being taken for a scam.

[ Hibiki waves a hand. ] Don't let it happen again.

[ This is the part where she gracefully takes her leave, is it not? Surely there will be no issue with her leaving the dearly departed teacup on the floor.

The air around this area grows cold. ]

A literally lighter question, as here I am Inti, a goddess of the sun.

Though that actually involves much less work with the sun than I am used to. [She chuckles softly, and then hastens to explain.] Where I am from, the land of Equestria, ponykind is responsible for many things that happen by themselves in the world. The weather, the seasons, and in my sisters' and my case, the rising and setting of the sun and moon.

[He raises an eyebrow.]

Wanna test that out?

[Chances are, this tiny god is stronger than you, Judar.

A shrug.]

Not my problem. They're gullible that way.

[Ignis can't help but find the irony in that. Here he was a shinki to the goddess of the sun, yet he was so far spending his afterlife in the dark. He lets out sort of a noise through his nose at that before brushing away the sort of bitterness that he had felt momentarily.

But he did find her own world interesting. To think that physical beings were responsible for the natural happenings of their world. Wouldn't that deem them all to be divine in their own way?

And does that mean that they are all from different worlds? How did they end up in the same afterlife if they're from different worlds? It was starting to become a lot for his mind to wrap around, no matter how smart he was.

Ignis had fallen silent with his own thoughts for longer than he had intended.]

... Maybe after I've had something to eat.

[ It'd make sense that he was hungry. He probably died with a lot of energy having been used up and pretty hungry. Not that he's thinking of that. Just that he'd rather not fight people on an empty stomach.

Also, he could just step over you- how's he supposed to fight someone so small? ]

It's not mine either. The important part is that I'm not fooled by that. Hey, what kind of good food is there, anyway?

I don't think so. I like it here so being dead isn't so bad.

[Goten isn't bothered by it, he can't remember anything he would miss about his life. This is his life now.]
