[He sighs over-dramatically. As if he's worried about it getting stolen when he doesn't even want it in the first place...

He raises an eyebrow at the offer, though. Add might not even be in this dimension by tomorrow so it's a pretty pointless thing to bother with, but]

Why? If you're expecting a reward, you can forget about it.

Aren't you the one giving up easily, then? If you think there's no hope if it's not something we can see clearly.

[Shun's used to an enemy like that - a shapeless malice that never seemed to get smaller no matter how much was chipped away. To him, it's only a reason to fight harder, not to say it's impossible to combat.]

[Shun hadn't really considered that the most helpful thing to say right now - he doesn't deal in empty platitudes, regardless of how dire the situation is - but it seems it worked regardless.

It doesn't stop him from looking a little surprised, briefly, at the thanks before he turns his head away, finally taking a sip of his own coffee now that it isn't going to burn his mouth.]

It's just useful to remember. For anyone, not just someone like me. [Who doesn't really have a lot waiting for them but more fighting, and those dots, those people that make the whole thing worth it, are a true rarity to.]

You seem to be coping a little better than last time now, at least.

That's basically the same thing. [Arguably, it's worse, because it probably made them feel guiltier, but the guilting them isn't the thing he has a problem with anyway.

At least it was for something useful, though, and Shun nods like he's familiar with it.] I've talked to her about that. I offered to help defend it when you've both got it set up, since that many shinki in one place is going to draw ayakashi like nothing else.

[Well, she's not wrong in her guess, so Shun can't exactly get affronted about it, just giving her a bit of a side-eye before offering a faint snort.]

"Ignore" isn't really right. Mostly. [He does think Shun is a better person than Shun himself does, but he's also prone to either laughing at or trying to finagle Shun out of certain of his flaws, so he wouldn't put it that way himself.]

It's not really anyone else's business, anyway.

Yeah, well, that's twelve hours of wasted time where you could have at least been making second base. Or maybe third, it's a good night for that sort of thing.

[Freely available alcohol and bad ideas and so on, though it sounds more like a shitty romance movie trope than something someone would actually want to go for. But he is still definitely judging Chikusa, with his judgiest level of still deadpan expression.]

[Well, that sure gets Davesprite's attention, to the point of making his feathers ripple a little in discomfort. It might've been a theory he was willing to consider, but that's more proof that it could be true than he was expecting, and it's...not a good thought. If anyone he remembered came to this world like that, he doesn't know what the hell he'd do.]

...Okay, yeah, we'll pin that one on the "conspiracy theories to get behind" wall. [He does have a point about it being pretty hard to be a ghost without a soul, too, though Davesprite doesn't want to linger on it too much after that little revelation.]

Yeah, I know, but my classification of good person is pretty broad, and mostly involves them not being openly garbage at the immediate time I happen to be talking to them.

[Somehow, Hakkai is not the only admitted ex-mass-murderer he's confided in, and Komaeda was pretty upfront about it.]

[Honestly, Maria has heard weirder things in her time than two people from the same world coming from centuries apart, though it does confirm her curiosity on that front from when Tsubasa was here. So while she certainly still looks interested, she doesn't look like she thinks it's anything strange at all.]

Well, you both seem to get on fine anyway, which is what's most important, I think. Though I doubt any world's history would have lent itself to having you both meet in life with that kind of separation...I'm guessing you're from further back, Caster, even if I only know the proper name of one of you.

[Caster did introduce himself as Cú Chulainn to her from the start, so the only question is who "Saber" is.]

I'll look forward to seeing your radiance grace the stage.

[ If the head of the Heavens falls in love with PriPara, that puniverse will surely be attracted all the faster!

[Not too surprising, though Maria smiles a little sympathetically at the admission.] It's mostly used at events like this, so not everyone thinks it's important, but I disagree. I could dance with you later, or you could see what it's like when everyone else starts dancing.

[Maria has a feeling their reasoning is entirely different here, so she takes another sip of her sake and elaborates on what she means.] That might be overstating it a bit, but it is a little odd that I've seen a few new temples show up in the Southeast, but mine is still the only one to move to the Northeast. It's a little lonely, honestly.

[Maria still looks like she's tempted to laugh, but his embarrassment over the mistake makes it feel a bit cruel, so she curbs the urge. That doesn't mean she can get rid of the obviously amused smile still on her face in the wake of it, though.]

I'd hope I don't look so young that people don't trust me to do things like drive and fly helicopters that I have to do for the younger ones back home.

[But to reassert that it's all in good fun, she ribs him a bit with her elbow.] Maybe you're just an old man yourself.

I'm glad they finally decided to, though I have a feeling it's not a common sentiment. [Maria's seen a few people tonight who look decidedly uncomfortable in their formal clothes.

Seeing Natsuru's hesitant grip on that wine glass, Maria holds her own out in hopes of getting her a bit more confident with it. She's about to offer a toast, but then those admissions come tumbling over one another, and Maria hesitates for a moment before smiling apologetically.]

I'm sorry, again. I wish I could have warned you I was going to be gone, but I didn't know myself until I came back. I'm just grateful that much less time passed here than did in my world while I was there.

[If she'd been gone for the weeks to months she lived out in her world, with Natsuru still bound to her but unable to fight ayakashi properly while she wasn't there, or seek another god if she didn't want to become a nora...it's not a good thought, and Maria tries to shake it off, holding her glass forward again.]

Shall we toast to a good evening, then?

[Hakkai chuckles lightly.]

That is a broad definition.

[Any definition that could plausibly encompass him is far too broad. He's not arguing, though. He's lost enough friends recently that he won't try to convince anyone else to flee, if they're not doing it on their own.

He's silent for a moment, then adds thoughtfully:]

But it's surprising how many people it doesn't cover, isn't it?

I think I'll observe everyone else dancing for now.

[Celty is happy to hear Trunks is having a good time, though she's not really able to speak about the food herself. She takes his word for it that it's worth replicating.

She does however catche the subtext in that bit at the end there.]
