Hakkai Overflow
>Dean
It doesn't get easier if I avoid parties.
[He quirks one eyebrow at Dean. He's here to check for important information, talk to a few people and make sure nothing burns down spectacularly; then he's going to make an early night of it.]
So I may as well be here as anywhere else. -- Besides, it's a decent place to let people know that I do remember.
no subject
[His head tilts and he's giving Hakkai's shoulder a squeeze. They're not friends but they're similar enough that well Dean might be seeing him as something close to an acquaintance.]
Just looking out for you. Coming back from the dead is really disorienting - at least in my experience. Might be a bit different here but yeah.
no subject
I seem to have come back with my wounds healed, conveniently.
[Not even any bruising on his throat; and the death had been quick. He's felt far worse pain and despair.
If anything, the aftermath has been the more annoying part. Why so many people have chosen to be personally offended by Hakkai's misjudgment--]
... And it's not my first time. [Counting his time here as a shinki, it's really his third return from the dead so far. His smile thins.] Also conveniently.
no subject
That is convenient but definitely a good thing.
[He's known that feeling he's come back okay and he's come back not so okay. He's come back messed up and as a demon so Dean thinks he understands a bit better than the Average Joe might.
Not that he comments on that. It's not his place and this is about Hakkai not him.]
You've died here before? Doesn't seem very convenient to me. [Or maybe Hakkai means it was convenient for someone else? That might be it depending on what the other man has gotten up to and figured out thus far.]
no subject
[Which is disturbingly close to being dead, in more than one way. Hakkai shakes his head, clearly a little more at ease now that Dean's no longer squeezing his shoulder. Physical contact isn't something he's ever been very good at.]
But I meant more that I've had the chance to adjust to the sensation.
no subject
[He wouldn't know what being a Shinki is like exactly but he wouldn't want to be there. He wouldn't wish that on his worst enemy.]
I don't know that that kind of thing is possible but I'm taking your word for it.
no subject
[He shakes his head, and adds:]
In my opinion, whatever magic brought us here and is keeping us here is unstable.
no subject
[He's mulling over Hakkai's words a moment before nodding his head. ]
I can honestly say that makes the most sense. That might been why people vanish, too. Maybe the pull of their old life or their desire to leave is strong enough to break the spell this place has.
no subject
[Not considering how much, sometimes, he's wanted to leave. Not considering how little some of the other people he knows might have wanted it. No.]
I think it's simply unstable, and unpredictable. I haven't been able to determine any kind of pattern in who disappears, or when. As for my memory... yes. I was one of the shinki who started to remember fragments of my life, and by the time I became a god, it was a significant portion of the four or five years before I came here. When I became a god, the rest of it came back to me.
no subject
That had to have been a rush. All of those sudden memories, thoughts, feelings. [And in reverse it would make someone very hollow, empty - upsetting to say the least.]
If you had to choose which you were which would you want to be? [The question has no point he's just curious.]
no subject
He's silent for a long moment, and then glances away.]
Neither. Between the two, I won't say I'd rather not know; shinki have it worse, after all, here. And yet...
[And yet, he's hardly suited to be a god, either. Certainly not suited to make his own decisions, or, even more ridiculous, be worshipped by others.]
no subject
I think I'd rather know. As ill-suited as I am to be a god at least with what I do know I could be somewhat useful to someone.
[And he has someone to look after. He has Castiel to take care of. Knowing things if only for his sake... Dean thinks that's important.] At least.. I think I could be at any rate.
no subject
[Although it had worried him sometimes. He'd just been too good at fighting, his instincts too brutal, for peace of mind.
He supposes it might be easier for people who had lived peaceful lives.]
no subject
[Unfortunate in it would make watching Castiel impossible. Castiel needs him and if he loses knowledge of that fact, Cas would be on his own. That ain't happening Dean won't let it.]
I'd hate to be left totally defenseless. I've got some decent fighting skills so it'd be really annoying to forget stuff I've spent most of my life learning.
no subject
[And so, for instance, you might not know what to do, or who you're meeting, even when you should. He shakes his head, after a moment, sighing.]
Sometimes, I suppose it's enlightening. To meet someone for the first time twice, for example...
