Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into what looks like an old, large warehouse behind the Meeting Hall for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior. Several chairs have been moved in, but they're squeezed together between packed shelves and boxes of old ritual clothing, scrolls and rusty or chipped household goods. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Back copies of the "From Ama" magazine, including puff pieces about new or rising gods or successful shinki, advice columns for resolving problems between gods and shinki, temple photographs and other articles of interest to gods and shinki, have been brought out in boxes and piled up next to a table holding a few remaining copies of the shinki questionnaire for any new shinki who want to keep one around until they can answer the included questions.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki. Several magically animated straw-stuffed training dummies, many of which have been carefully mended and patched with neat black stitching, are set up on the lawn with a white-robed shinki hovering nearby to watch over them. They make good training partners, although anyone who comes too close risks being targeted for a sparring match whether they wanted one or not.

The white-robed shinki are still busy cleaning and preparing the Meeting Hall for the big annual meeting of the gods. They'll recruit anyone who looks as though they're not too busy in order to help scrub floors, weed, sweep paths and walkways, and shoo away any unwelcome little spirits that are hiding away in dark corners of the hall. Heavy lifting is good exercise... right?

Rest and Refreshments

There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, but for those who've finished working, hot tea and enough seasonal treats are available to make it look as though the Heavens bought out an entire sweet shop. They're being distributed by a few shinki in indigo-blue and plain brown robes with the sleeves tied back, who aren't above teasing the newcomers a bit.

Young shinki are playing in the nicely manicured garden, trying to catch crayfish at the lake edge, dashing around playing tag and hide-and-seek. Just be careful you don't get caught in the middle of a game of "Kagome"! If you do, you'll really be stuck until you guess someone's name.

I'm not sure how to ask this but, is that... common for your people? I've only met two other people like you.

[She says thinking about his ears and not knowing that he's a very specific type of person-with-ears.]

That's what I was thinking!

[She laughs because calling it a 'blade' was definitely weird for her as well.]

Especially the part about catching and deflecting. I haven't been able to perfect it yet, but I'm getting better just running around while holding on it at least. It's amazing how heavy something can be when you hold it for longer than five minutes.

[She gestures to his armor.]

I'd love something lighter than that, but I'm probably not good enough with my keyblade yet to have to also worry about armor.

[She pulls out her phone as she starts to explain.]

I talk to them on the phone and check on them to see how they're doing. If they're a little down I come over to hang out with them. Plan parties and invite them. Help them if they need it, like picking out dressy outfits for formal events they plan here. Learn more about their favorite hobbies with them.

[Kairi shakes her head.]

Sorry, no, those names don't sound familiar. I only know of guys named Nyanta and Dust that look like you, and Nyanta's been gone a few months. Dust's still here though! He, uhm...

[She cups her hands at her mouth by way of description.]

He actually has a muzzle though.

[She lets her Line dissipate and claps her hands.]

The last way is just throwing this energy outward- oh, wait, let me get that back first...

[She easily summons the Borderline energy back again, and then pulls her hand back to throw the energy forward like a bowling ball or softball pitch.]

Line!

[It juts forward and rises up to form a short wake as it goes, flaring out higher and higher with each inch it moved forward before dissipating eventually.]

I've also done that straight upward and made it hurt someone like an uppercut punch!

Okay, well, maybe work on coming off less like one if you don't want to get called one, my dude. Most people can easily think of problems they have with their god even if they get on really well.

[He raises his hands in some form of admission it was his bad, but he's still not really taking it back.]

[ He gives a short hum of agreement but quickly turns on his heel before Grell has the chance to have her hands wander further. It's enough of a response for her to assume he's keeping the idea in his mind for future reference.

And with that, he's walking back towards the common area of the training pit. Neither of them have their weapons in hand now, after all. ]

It shouldn't be that much longer, but there was a lot of a gap to fill. [He has his own knowledge and some actual notes on things that have happened to make sure he didn't forget certain details, but it still needs to be condensed and turned into a list of a length that's not going to be wildly impractical or impossible for anyone to go through quickly.

At the question, Shun shrugs slightly.] A spirit, we think. It was a kid in a mask running around and "tagging" people, and they fell under the influence.

[ The sudden departure isn't unlike Will, but it still leaves the redhead blinking as he goes. Really, she had to wonder what he could be planning.

Wait-- but, more importantly than that, he's leaving her behind! ]

Don't just leave me here!

[ She frets, bristling, before she bounds after, to latch onto his arm. ]

I'd hardly gotten 10 feet from you.

[ Though, it's entirely expected. She's just lucky he won't be using his scythe to bat her away, for once. Instead, he continues forward to the refreshment area, looking to grab himself some bottled water. ]

[ Ah, the biting truth-- however, his words that follow do more than well enough to soothe her wounds.

With an endeared swell of her chest, she throws her arms about his shoulders, nuzzling her face into his cheek! ]

You're always enough, William.

[death_glare]

[ Although he brought the affections upon himself with his own words, he can't help but grimace at Grell's sudden clinging. It's mainly a reflex, at this point. But eventually his arms find their way to settling loosely around Grell's lower back. ]

I'm certain some prayers must exist that involve caring for children.

[untodeath]

[ Grell gradually eases her head down to rest on his shoulder, contemplating over that for a moment. ]

Well, yes. I'll admit, I've already sought some of those out... [ A sigh. ] But there's always this-- yearning. A hesitance to get too attached.

[death_glare]

Hmm.

[ He's almost proud of her for having that self control. There may not be any real solution to this for her, but he has a second suggestion. ]

Perhaps some of the younger shinki are without gods.

[purr_ince]

I meant that I don't think I know of anyone here that can do that. You should absolutely do it and show it off. Talents are meant to be shared after all.

[untodeath]

[ For a moment, Grell quiets with a breathy hum. Idly draws circles over William's shoulder. ]

I'll consider it. For the future. I wouldn't want to be a single mother, after all.

[death_glare]

[ He's not even going to comment on that. He already feels like they've been married for a century. Instead, he silently shakes his head. ]

I'm not sure [He doesn't like the idea of people being hurt though, he knows that much. And messing about instead of doing the work he had been assigned, that didn't feel good either.]

She's right though, we should be more careful.

[death_glare]

[ William blinks before a deep frown takes his features. ]

Do not address me as such. I am not your master. Mister Spears is sufficient enough.

She is a good teacher. [He nodded] It sounds like it is a big job if people arrive and disappear all the time.

I apologise, mister Spears [He looks a little awkward. But he goes for stoicism, he's only been here a few hours he still has a lot to learn and the correct way to address people was one of them]

[ She takes the phone back with a surprised look, glancing down at the new entries in her contacts before glancing up at him again. ]

Are you sure? But what if you are busy or something? Shouldn't you check with your god first?

[ Which.... might be a strange thing for a child to worry about, but Nanako thinks about some strange things sometimes.

She does hum at his comment though, trying to think if she knows anyone who transforms, too. ]

Hmm. I don't know if I know anyone either. I mean, Goten goes all glowy, but I don't know if that's the same thing...

[swordofzero]

[He had? He didn't think he had but he nodded. He could always practice later until he felt it was right. He let the energy go and watched as Kairi showed him the way to throw the energy.]

Line!

[He makes sure to aim somewhere where no one is standing, not that he need worry. The energy flared out but it only made it a foot or two before it dissipated. Another thing to practice]

I see, it's a useful weapon then.

[Suzaku finds his balance again quickly and steps to the side, bringing the spear up to block Lancer's attack, pushing it aside. He brings the spear round so it is held low at his side and he steps forward, stabbing towards Lancer's hip.]

Roger that. [ Kanade salutes. She can't really pick on somebody who's figuring the shinki stuff out too much, since she's still in the middle of that process herself.

Well. Unless it looks like he's making life more difficult for himself. Then she will be on hand to deflate him! This is a helpful service she provides.

Kanade returns to scrubbing the floor. ] We'll do it the boooring way, then....
