Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

Once they've had a chance to have things explained, they'll have the chance to relax and enjoy an afternoon party.




Meeting Hall

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter.

The speaker delivers her welcome speech with the intonation of someone who's practiced it many times. Newly arrived gods are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately. They are allowed to remain in the room as long as they wish, should they want to discuss questions with each other or with more experienced gods who are here to help out.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out informational pamphlets that have been freshly printed. They will be happy to answer any questions or instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline. They also accompany their answers, or lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

The dojo is back to its old, fully functional self; a set of motionless straw targets line one wall, to be used by people practicing with any of the weapons spread out on tables or hanging in racks on the walls. Outside, six animated straw targets wait in an area marked off with red ribbons and warning signs. Anyone entering the marked area may find themselves in combat with one (or more) of the magical training dummies. Those who leave the marked area, though, won't be chased.

Physical Training

Beyond the dojo, a scavenger hunt has been set up throughout the grounds of the Meeting Hall. Brightly colored plastic balls are hidden in shrubbery, tucked into support beams, floating among reeds in the ponds, and lurking in even cleverer hiding places. When a god or shinki gets their hand on one of them, they will burst open to reveal a hidden prize, such as candy, small toys, or accessories. How many can you find?

As well as the scavenger hunt, the white-robed shinki are engaging in more serious physical training and will be happy to let new gods or shinki join them. Sparring matches with practice weapons from the dojo, jogging laps around the hall, sit-ups, push-ups... or, for the younger shinki, competing to see who's the fastest to climb a tree.

Rest and Refreshments

Midafternoon, once the last of the scavenger-hunt prizes have been found, the white-robed shinki will turn their hands to clearing away the training equipment and laying out a lovely buffet table. Bright lanterns are hung from the trees, and a few shinki even take up a station on one side of the training area and begin playing shamisen, koto, wooden flute and drum. Although their instruments are traditional, their music selection ranges from some very classic Japanese tunes to others that sound surprisingly modern. The koto player can really rock!

Old and new gods and shinki alike are welcome to circulate, socialize with their friends, partake of the buffet food and enjoy the music. There's even room for those who feel inspired to dance, and plenty of privacy offered by the extensive garden for those who would rather retreat with their new partners to have a serious conversation.

No I meant... something not junk food.

[She might be making a mental note to make sure he eats something that isn't junk food before she leaves him today~]

That - Those are all very true points. [ They are. Really, they are and Adrien should take them to heart but... His expression turned shocked and he's staring at Shin his eyes wide as cold be his mouth falling open.] Would you really do that? I mean... Why would you do that to yourself? [ That is his life it almost always has been but why would someone do that to themselves if they didn't have to? ]

[She lowers the bottle now half empty and stares at it. Her expression is unreadable for a moment.] Right. We're all in this together or some such nonsense, yes?

[She says that a bit dismissively but when she lifts her gaze again there's a slight smile.] So long as you promise not to lecture me about friendship I will take all the help I can get. [If she pushes aside the implications--and she can even if only temporary--the situation feels more daunting than terrifying.

Perhaps in some ways she has become more akin to what Eorzea believed the Tweleve to be than a primal.]

As a god I am charged with... answering prayers? [She caught that part of it even if in the end she had only been half listening...]

[She snorts.] Well that's utterly fitting. Are all the gods we become so spot on? [Although the afterlife and dead part is maybe not. She knows he endured a lot of loss during his travels through second hand accounts--and some first hand accounts from the Warrior of Light--but she'd hope that place wasn't that cruel for that to be the reason.]

I imagine that it is but you are certainly not ill suited for it. [She, on the other hand, could not be a worse fit for some all powerful god meant to lead followers. Whoever brought her here clearly didn't do their research. Not that she has any idea what god she is beyond the name she was given.]

I suppose a way home is also conveniently missing from your library too. [A somewhat rhetorical question. If it was that easy none of this would be happening right now.

She stands up abruptly.] Is it far from here? Mayhap you have a book that can tell me what god I'm suppose to be.

That's why I'm afraid. [ Or part of it. The other part is that he feels like he failed somehow. ] I know that. And I'm trying. I really am. Adjusting is just difficult. [ Back to sleeping in the mansion, his room alone where there's all these memories that keep flickering before his eyes; a year of just being alone trapped in that big house. Even if it's different now it's all still there. ]

You're welcome. I would like that. [ He smiled before giving a little wave. ] Good luck with your training and finding your god.

[Shin wears a soft, smug smile.] We're supposed to be a team, right?

Besides, what's a shinki to do if their God isn't taking care of themselves?

[He gets an idea,] Maybe if we don't there could still be a god that has the power to age us?

[Technically, it's a Juvenile Correction Center uniform. If not for the serial number it wouldn't look too out of place at a high school.] Yeah.

He said something similar. That it's just something that happens to gods when they name people. [He sighs,] I don't know why it's still bugging me. But the first thing he said made no sense....

But you know, I can't just defend all the innocent pretty girls! Like, Tatara's super cute, but he's a guy, you know? I've only had one god that wasn't.

[And she pretty much had zero interest in letting him do the protecting, so...]

Any requests? I most likely won't know any particular song, but I could make an attempt. I have learned quite a few anime themes, though, seeing as I've spent much of my time watching things on the internet and neglecting my duties as a god!

Hmmm, well if you need to find me in general I'm one of the Shinki for Thoth, so if you go to her temple you should be able to find one of us. She's usually home while I'm more often out. I keep myself busy by working as a courier when we have some down time.

[When it's in your nature to ride you find ways to make it your employment as well.]

I don't think so... [He frowned.] We shouldn't go into other gods temples unless we got permission. [That would be really rude he thinks.]

[Iskandar notices the borderline disappear. That's second time he's seen it both being set up and brought down. Plenty enough to know what to look for any given moment in the future. This fight is getting at lot more educational than he expected. Good.
He decides to try another tactic. He starts circling.]

He pulls out the one he had been given, "Ah, it's a little strange, but yeah." He looks at Suzaku curiously, "Did you want to exchange numbers?" It didn't really explain why he asked if he knew how to use the phone, but he could ask that if Suzaku didn't catch onto the source of his confusion and explain it without prompting.

Maybe I should list you under all of those then, huh? [ A slight joke, but.. you know. With how Minako is, she might actually enter just all of that as his name on the contact list.

She glances around her for a moment, and then immediately back to him. ]

Well, I should go look for my god now then.. But you'll be sure to hear from me later! [ She starts walking away, putting up a hand to wave at him as she disappears into the crowd. ] Don't forget me in the meantime!
