What: A distraught, blighted shinki goes on a rampage against Heaven. How will you react?

At first, it's all rumor. On the twenty-second of January, there is a report of a small, hooded figure attacking one of Heaven's white robed shinki with a knife, then vanishing too quickly to be caught. There is another attack the next day on two of Amaterasu's shinki near her temple, and this time there's a complication: there are clear signs of blight on the small hand that holds the knife. By the third day, the mysterious attacker is clearly disfigured, all fangs and claws and multiple eyes. The number of victims--all injured, none dead--mounts.

Something is happening in Heaven. And it clearly isn't good.

[Joscelin takes another couple of steps but then has to sit down again. He's so exhausted he's dizzy.]

Mmm.

[He sounds fuzzy, noncommittal.]

[Hakkai turns towards him in surprise as the boy sinks down where he stands, not quite in collapse but sitting nonetheless in the road. His eyes widen, concerned, and then narrow with thought.]

You've had a long night.

-- May I take you back home? [He holds out a hand: he wouldn't teleport Joscelin without his agreement, but it's becoming clear that it's that or carrying him the rest of the way.]

[Joscelin nods. It has been a long night. A long night and several long days previous.]

Where's home?

[He's already reaching a small hand towards Hakkai, either for help up or to be teleported wherever.]

My temple. [Hakkai takes his hand, and the world flickers around them; they're in front of a sunnily painted building, brick and wood, two stories high with a red door ornamented in gilded swirls.

He gets a better grip on Joscelin's hand, offering him help up.]

Can you stand? There are quite a few empty rooms upstairs. You should get some sleep.

[Joscelin takes the hand and clings to it as he gets himself upright. He's going to need a bit of help, but pride won't let him ask for it.

He looks up at Hakkai.]

I think I'm too cold to sleep.

[That is how Gojyo finds him a few hours later, sitting in the garden all wrapped up in a thick blanket and staring blankly at the scenery.]
