34 - Love is in the Air
Who: Everyone!
What: An enterprising pair of shinki is trying to spread love throughout the Far Shore with exciting blind dates.
When: February 14
Where: Hot romantic spots throughout Tokyo
Summary: Blind dates on Valentine's Day? Sounds like fun (or possibly a disaster, but everyone needs some good disaster stories.) That's not all that's going on, though. Ayakashi are looking to chow down on the negative emotions that a romantic holiday can generate, and those who aren't busy with their own dates might be sucked into helping out followers who need help to make the day go well.

The Dates
- Those who have signed up -- or whose friends and colleagues have signed them up -- for dates will get cards with specified times and meeting places inside for the big event. The cards don't list their dates' names, but instead have a matching symbol to allow everyone to find their proper partner. If anyone tries to stand up their date, they can expect a small and angry owl to harass them until they give in.
- Date One: The Romantic Brunch.
Couples will find themselves with reservations (and pre-paid coupons for the prix fixe menu) at a swanky French restaurant with a wide balcony overlooking the lake in a central Tokyo park. They can dine on dainty pastries, sweet milk coffees, bowls of grapes and hothouse strawberries, and a selection of fancy chocolates and petit-fours-- plus, some of the trees in the park are blooming in holiday-appropriate red and white! - Date Two: The Aquarium.
Couples scheduled for this date have tickets to a rooftop aquarium in Ikebukuro: brightly colored fish, animals including penguins, seals and pelicans, a small petting zoo and plenty of shadowy, secluded nooks to cuddle in make for a fun lunchtime date. The tickets even include admission to the one o'clock penguin and seal show! - Date Three: The Amusement Park.
This date sends couples to spend the evening enjoying themselves at a seaside amusement park. Ride the roller coasters! Take selfies with the costumed attendants! Share an overpriced ice cream cone while you watch the fireworks after sunset, then wind up the night with a ride on the colorfully lit Ferris wheel with a romantic view of the Tokyo skyline.
Ayakashi Menace
- There's more than just romantic couples out to enjoy themselves today. Romantic holidays can be tough for those whose love lives aren't so rosy, and as always, those negative feelings draw in ayakashi who are ready to ruin everybody's day.
All across the city, besides the usual ayakashi, characters might encounter the following:
Flocks of dove ayakashi whose mournful call induces self-doubt, suspicion and paranoia in everyone who hears it. Are your friends really your friends? Is your lover betraying you? Shouldn't you hurry up and stab them in the back before they can do it to you? These ayakashi are small and agile, difficult to catch but easy to destroy once they're caught... if you can overcome the urge to turn on your allies first.
Long-fingered shadow ayakashi, large and powerful, and capable of sneaking around by blending into genuine shadows. These ayakashi draw those who are alone into their clutches, filling them with resentment and despair. Anyone battling them needs to watch out for the humans they might already have influenced, who may become unpredictable and violent as the ayakashi influencing them grows more desperate.
Cute teddy bear ayakashi, that influence anyone they cling to into greedy obsession: they need attention, affection and gifts, and they can never have enough. When attacked, the teddy bears turn out to fight a little more like a grizzly bear than a stuffed toy, so gods and shinki beware!
Praying for Love
- Those who aren't busy with their own dates might find themselves busy taking care of other people's instead. On a day like this one, everyone's praying that things turn out perfectly! Prayers gods might hear include:
"He's just got to ask me out! I made him the biggest box of chocolates... please, let senpai notice me!"
"Does she really like me? Please, give me a sign."
"I got concert tickets for our date, but it's supposed to rain. Please let me find a way to make this work out anyway!"
"The restaurant I wanted to take him to isn't taking any more reservations for tonight. What can I do? I can't cook!"
Wild Card -- players are free to make up their own romance-adjacent prayers for their characters to fulfill.

In Summary:
- Enjoy your dates
- Fight some ayakashi
- Make sure to answer prayers for a good Valentine's Day
- Have fun~
pffft. that or a sword? she's been wanting a sword and for it to be HIM....
Even so, she's ready to point out that she's not packing a vessel, but holy water
squirt gunspistols, when even being sprayed with one of these objects isn't enough to distract the ayakashi from thinking D2 "smells good" and a horrific realization hits her. ]--You're blighted?!
[ That makes him a sitting duck! And Wendy isn't in easy earshot.
WHAT IS THE SOLUTION? ]
lol yes that would be great. any power preference?
He winces a little at the tone in her voice. He makes a grimace. ]
Just a bit, it'll wash off once I get the chance.
[ The solution is not to wash it off right now, they don't have holy water to waste.
Which means he'll remain a sitting duck unless he gets namedddd.... ]
....Uh.
none whatsoever! hit her with your best shot
Then D2 says "Uh" and the pit drops right out of her stomach. A cold chill bursts into being on her brow. This is.....It's like she can intuit what he's about to say, but it's so preposterous her brain...won't let her think of it herself... ]
....Wh-what? What's the source of this sense of hesitant foreboding?!
[ Something awful and inevitable is weighing on her shoulders! She is about to have no choice but to do....to do something....
What is the cross that she must bear????? ]
i rolled psionics on the superpower wiki when pressing random if something in the frield works
He doesn't want to but do they have any choice? He can't keep the displeased tone out of his voice, or the dismayed expression off his face.
But not now. He can be frustrated about it later. He's a professional, he's done things that he's disliked far more than this. ]
The most effective thing would be for you to name me.
ooooh *neat* (sth with clairvoyance b/c apollo?), also 1/2
AND YET, SOMEHOW, ONE JUST BROKE ]
2/2
Hibiki...makes a really good shield right now, at least. And she's still holding a water gun in each hand, if D2 needs to defend himself before she pops back into conscious existence.
Name. Name him.
Name. Him. ]
so something like knowing a bit beforehand when and where somebody's going to attack etc?
She freezes up and that's just- so not ideal. He shakes her by a shoulder, trying to snap her out of it, as he shoots holy water at the ayakashi. Argh, he's almost out! ]
God Apollo, hey- The battle field is no place to zone out, Hibiki!
[ It's not like he's happy about it either but it's the most logic thing to do!
If she doesn't snap out of it before he runs out of water, he's going to snatch her holy water
squirt gunpistol out of her hand. ]yep, just a split second to know where to put said sword? would that work?
[ She's baaaaack. And just in time to wrest the pistol back from him, since he's about to not have hands!
Curses. To think it'd come to this - but she has no choice! No other god has appeared to rescue him, so - ]
Get behind me.
that would indeed work
[ He only rarely drops the honorific and she knows it. It's only when he's really serious that he does so. Now he's just deadpan, as he steps back. ]
In case you don't remember or something, my actual name's Carl Adler.
[ He does reply to her posts sometimes and his name shows up then, but he does tell people to call him D2, so some people actually do forget that he has a name beyond his code name. And to name someone you sort of do need their name, not the code name that's used after it's classified. ]
here we...go, then....
[ So there. But, fine. Hibiki pulls herself up to proper declaiming posture, sublimating her irritation. If she's going to name him, she will do so WITH FULL GRANDIOSITY! ]
My name is Hibiki. Grasping thy true name, I bind thee here. With borrowed name, I dub thee my servant.
[ She whips around a finger to point at D2, barely missing an ayakashi. ] The name answers, the vessel to sound. I call thee as my divine instrument. The name, Carl Adler. The vessel, Gyuu.
[ Her hand twirls, fists, draws back towards herself. ]
[ Someone really thought her own cow joke was funny. ]
is that the 牛 gyuu with vache as the french bit also tw for violence & some gore for the death bit
[ He is not surprised that she does this with Flair(TM) but is this really the time to do it that way? He would laugh at her naming sense and this joke that she's apparently sticking to if the situation was different; now he just raises an eyebrow as he feels the burn of the kanji being etched into his skin against his collarbone, hidden by his ridiculous shirt and hoodie.
Hibiki is met with the painful memory of being brutally ripped apart by exploding soap bubbles, and the feeling of unrelenting determination in the face of death accompanying it. D2 didn't go out easily.
After the memory abates, she'll find that D2 has disappeared and drawn to her hand is is a sword. A US Naval officer sword, to be precise. It's a bit bruised and battered, and the etchings on the blade aren't easy to make out without looking closer, but it's very much still sharp and fully functional.
D2, on his end, is relieved that he is an actual weapon. Twice he has not been, and he really preferred being a weapon. Even if it's to Hibiki, of all people. ]
it sure is, pardon her prench >_>;
Heh. Such skill, and yet he plays the fool with her. Amnesia is truly absurd.
When the memories clear, her skin prickles for reasons that have nothing to do with having just watched an assassin earn the respect of the one who finally outmatches him. He's a sword. She's of two minds about that, but, more importantly - ]
You're badly blighted.
[ But let's see if this battered edge can cut. Hibiki raises the sword. When it hits what little light the ayakashi let through, the blade gleams in precisely the right spot for an excellent dramatic shot.
Yes, she supposes that'll have to do. ]
her prench is great
He's blighted, he knows that. He knows he has to deal with that, but he has not had the opportunity to do so yet. The blight is a constant reminder of Forrest being gone, and that's hardly pleasant. He was with Forrest for much longer than he was with Riku or Grell. Having it brought up only serves to rub in that loss, and when he replies he doesn't sound entertained. ]
I am, in fact, aware of this.
[ There is nothing wrong with the blade, it's sharper than it looks and any vessel form is meant to be capable against an ayakashi in some way.
Unable to actively part-take in this battle, D2 reaches for the part of him that's connected to his power, and he searches for what it might be. The convenient thing with having changed hands so many times meant that he at least knows how to find the right thread to tug at more easily. ]
she agr-oui-s
[ Nobody she's named is going to be blighted. One, it's not her aesthetic. Two, it makes her feel disgusting. And she won't stand for that.
(If there's a three, she's not thinking about it.)
The ayakashi whirl, coming in from all sides. Hibiki lashes out on instinct, slicing here - there - but where?
Where will the next strike come from?! ]
no subject
[ He doesn't exactly like being blighted either, as a matter of fact.
But he has better things to think about. Focusing on fights is something that he vastly prefers over focusing on things like missing gods and the feelings attached to that.
He feels around at the back of his mind for the string and- there's something. It feels less tangible than the powers he had when he was with Grell or Forrest, more similar to what he had when he was with Riku way back. It's not an offensive ability, then. So it shouldn't be directed entirely outward, toward the ayakashi, but more toward Hibiki. But to be sure, he's aiming feelers at both ayakashi and god.
Which is a good thing that he does, because the image, or maybe it's more of a sensation of knowledge, passes from ayakashi, to him, to Hibiki. ]
1/2
[ wait what was
what was THAT ]
no subject
Rend!!
[ The sword slashes out behind Hibiki, without her even looking - and finds its prey pouncing on her in her blind spot. She blinks, trying to process what just happened at the same time as fend off the rest.
He...what did he.... ]
So that's what you're good for.
no subject
Well, seems like that could be useful, at least. ]
Rude. I'm good for more than being observant.
[ Or.. something. Sort of. He's not sure. He does need to be useful, otherwise he feels.. off. ]
no subject
[ She's grinning sharply, though, as she says it, and whirling on the ayakashi. The irony here is bitter - but!
This is an excellent vessel. And Hibiki does know her way around a sword....though this is probably the first time the ayakashi have ever had to deal with a god who fights them insisting upon proper fencing form.
She may need the lookout assistance that comes with D2's new powers more than she'll admit. ]
no subject
If I care to be cooperative.
[ They both know that that isn't a word that generally would describe their relationship.
But he will nonetheless focus on letting out more of his power. The only way he can adapt to it is to practice, and the ayakashi needs to be taken care of. ]
no subject
[ Very well. She, too, shall grow serious -
And just in time. You know that thing monsters frequently do in anime, where many small foes band together to create one large foe?
Hibiki is secretly gratified to find herself battling an opponent that understands the importance of following such combat precepts (though its multiple arms still make D2's powers a necessity). Whirling out of the way in the nick of time to avoid a blow, her own hands tighten on the sword.
If they can find....a single, clear path...... ]
no subject
D2 does not know that thing that monsters do in anime, or at least not that it's common. He's mainly a Ghibli and Disney and other such movies (like Anastasia, he liked that one) watcher when it comes to movies overall. He doesn't really watch any other stuff.
But fighting ayakashi.. He's generally only mildly surprised at any unexpected things that they throw their way and this time is no different.
He has better things to focus on either way, sharpening his attention and pulling the strings of his subconsciousness, until the next important one is within reach and materializes from ayakashi to god. ]
no subject
But no! This one is not enough! ]
Last blow!
[ Where should she hit to rend it? ]
no subject
Fine, let him just find another string- And there. It always does come easier when he knows what he's doing. ]
no subject
No, never mind that! Harder, stronger, more exact - perfect placement, the perfect blow -
Right there! ]
REND!
[ ....Must these things screech so, when they perish? ]
