When You Walk Away [closed]

Who: Leo and Kairi
When: March 29th
Where: Near Shore
What: The sixteenth game in a long-running multi-media series, Legends of Fabled Hearts 2, is finally coming out and there's been more than a few prayers to make sure it actually comes out this time. Leo and Kairi are on the job.

[Leo is standing outside a distribution center for one of the big online shopping sites, tapping away on his phone as he waits for Kairi to come back from grabbing them breakfast. This center isn't even open yet, but Leo felt it was best to get here early so they can ensure everything goes according to plan.

But damn, he needs coffee.]

[ She doesn’t mind grabbing them breakfast. She was used to waking up early. Today, she just didn’t go jogging. She was still trying to keep up that habit in spite of losing her buddies. ]

Here we go!

[ She even has a small pack of donut holes - assorted pack! ]

[Leo looks up and it takes him a moment to realize what Kairi has with her, but he smiles and takes the pack of donut holes.]

Did you get coffee by any chance?

[Signs he needs coffee: he can't tell if she has coffee with her.]

Of course!

[ She just has the two drinks stacked on top of each other and is holding where they're joined. She takes the top cup in her left hand, then hands the right cup out to Leo. ]

This one's yours. I hope it's how you wanted it!

[Leo takes a sip, sighing as he does.]

Perfect...though really, I'll drink any coffee that isn't those godawful sugar disasters Aymeric likes. You are a godsend, Kairi.

Don't mention it...

[ She tucks some of her hair back as she shifts her drink back to her right hand. Leo praising her always makes her smile. It's so special when it's him. ]

And I'll make sure not to mention it to Aymeric.

[ She giggles. ]

Oh, he is well aware of my judging of his sugar addiction. I have a year's supply of birch syrup on hold as a wedding present.

[He sips his coffee.]

I wonder how we're supposed make sure these games get shipped...there's not much we can do if we get spotted and thrown out, after all, but we had to come here in the morning and not at night like I would have preferred.

[ Kairi laughs into her coffee, making a noise and spitting a bit of it. She attempts to hide it out of embarrassment while Leo keeps talking, but she has to gasp a little to recover. ]

Why would you prefer at night, Leo?

It's easier to break in and get things done without the risk of someone looking at us long enough to realize we shouldn't be there. But since this is about shipping, that's not feasible.

[ She was laughing because of the 'sugar addiction' comment, but now his serious attitude has her regaining her composure. ]

Ohhh, because they can see us, they just don't remember us. Right.

[ She takes another sip in contemplation. ]

And none of your magic can make us... more invisible to them?

[Oh, he figured, he's just early morning serious right now.]

Not really. I don't like dabbling with those curses, and Brynhildr is not a tome of subtly. I summon trees with her.

Trees? Huh, okay.

[ She's never seen him use Brynhildr, so the fact that he uses it not for magical attacking or defending but to summon trees... ]

... Can we climb up the tree into the building?

...you might be able to. I wouldn't be able to summon it and climb it at the same time.

[Hmm...]

But you could climb in and then let me in.

Oh that sounds like a good plan! I can even use Umbra on myself so that no one will notice me. As long as your spell makes a real tree, then I can get up it.

[ She's gotten a lot better at action-hero jumping since she arrived. And it's either this or calling for Nimbus again, both of which are likely to draw attention. ]

It does, but it doesn't last for very long.

[He glances around before spotting a green area on the other side of the road. He aims the spell over there so Kairi can see how long the tree lasts.]

Is that long enough?

I'll get a running start - I'll make it be long enough!

[ She even gets down into a runner's start position; she's been doing so much jogging lately that she can handle a short sprint like this! ]

Just tell me when!

[Leo holds a hand up and then drops it just as he starts to cast.]

[ Kairi sprints forward, and up comes the amazing tree-spell, she rides it for the brief period that the tree exists, and then launches herself upwards as the spell triggers!

Finally, she touches her forehead. ]

Souki! Umbra!

[ And by the time she lands, she gets into the building, she's invisible. Now to get the door open so that she can let Leo in... ]

[He'll just be waiting by the door, drinking his coffee...]

[ Luckily he won't be waiting long. She very quickly, quietly, makes her way to the door and unlocks it. She opens it just a bit at first, trying to see if anyone was there right away - like a guard might have suddenly shown up. Thankfully not.

So she opens it the rest of the way. She keeps her voice a little low for now. ]

I'm here. Do you want me to be visible again?

Do you think you'll need to remain invisible?

I guess it depends on how long we plan to be here! It's just making sure a few boxes are on a delivery truck, right? Unless we're going to open up the boxes and make sure they're the right game. I could always put the spell back up again.

[ So she lets her concentration waver, making her visible again. ]

If I were a video game...

[ She starts looking around for the hallway leading to the delivery bay. ]

[Leo follows, glancing around for any signs of the game.]

Oh, there's shipping and processing. Let's check there, first. If the games aren't here, then they may already be on the trucks.

Oh, perfect!

[ Kairi heads over there, where a few boxes sit. She starts reading the labels. ]

None of these are that game, just some other ones... oh and a few game controllers too over here... memory cards...

[ She wasn't as avid a gamer in her pre-Shinki lifetime, but all that time with Sora and Roxas and now Raichi at least got her familiar with the terms. ]

Anything anyone we know might like?

[He moves to a nearby computer, waking it up to check the shipping log.]

For birthdays and such.

You're not thinking of just... taking them right now, are you?

[ They haven't paid for them, Leo! ]

I guess if we left them some money...

What? No! I meant for a list or something, because I'm awful at getting presents for people!

Oh! Of course...

[ She's so relieved. ]

Legends of.. Uhm, Hearts- Fabled Hearts... the 2nd one. That's it. Do you see it?

Legends, Legends, Legen--ah. Yes, it's already been shipped! As have about thirty special edition consoles and two hundred collector's editions of the game itself. Impressive.

[ Well that's exciting! Kairi literally just throws her hands in the air. ]

YAY! I'm so glad!

[ Was that... all? That was it, right? She's trying to remember. ]

What do you think, can you just teleport us home now?

Mmm, I think so, yes. Unless you wanted to get something more to eat first.

Oh! Well, that would be nice!

[ She's not going to say no to spending more time with him. ]

Especially if we don't have to rush off somewhere now, unlike earlier.
