i know that you're tired of being alone ( closed )

Who: Shiro and Pyrrha
When: Evening of April 13
Where: Serapis Temple
What: Talking between friends. Feelings.

[ Shiro had woken up this morning to Jellybean curled up against him, mewling sadly. He hadn't been sure what to think about that... but when he'd tried to text Roxas, no reply. At first, he'd thought maybe Roxas was just asleep or busy, but as the hours crept by, Shiro had realized that Roxas was gone.

And in those hours, he'd gone outside to see Pidge's temple gone, too.

First Lance. Then Roxas and Pidge. Three of his closest friends, gone. Needless to say, Shiro is far from happy.

It's why he's outside Pyrrha's room right now. He raises a hand and knocks at the door. He just hopes she isn't gone, too. ]

[ pyrrha's only just discovered lance's absence, and it's really the first time she's lost a friend she's made here. as far as she's concerned, her other friends are still around--at least, she hopes so--and needless to say, she doesn't seem to be in high spirits when she answers the door.

it's obvious she's trying to hide her sadness. unfortunately, she isn't good at covering up how she feels. but...shiro doesn't seem like himself, either. perhaps he's also been affected by the loss.

only one way to find out. ]

Hi, Shiro.

[ He can't hide the way he lets out a quiet, relieved breath. The tension in his shoulders releases somewhat, and he gives her a smile that doesn't quite land properly. ]

Pyrrha.

[ He sounds relieved, too. It only just occurs to him that he was so concerned about finding her room empty that he's not sure what to do, now that he knows she's still here.

So... ]

What do you say to letting me treat you to lunch?

[ That seems okay, right? Normal. ]

That sounds...

[ she takes a deep breath. ]

Yes. Yes, let's get something to eat.

[ she needs to get out of her room, or else she'll start mulling over the loss of her friend for too long, and it'll consume her.

shiro's definitely been blighted. ]

[ He feels it--has felt it--because of course he has. But he still manages to give her a little smile. He doesn't want to weigh more on her; he knows Pyrrha more than well enough to know it'd never be intentional.

The loss of Lance, Pidge, Roxas... it really makes him think about how lucky he is that he has Pyrrha and Keith, still.

He loves them. Both of them. ]

What sounds good? We can get anything you want.

I'm not sure, to be honest.

[ nothing really sounds appetizing. she'll probably pick at her food more than anything. but she can't turn him away--not when they both seem to need a distraction. ]

Sushi, maybe?

You'll never hear me turn down sushi.

[ His smile is a little easier this time, and he motions for her to follow before he leads her out. ]

How about conveyor belt sushi? That way we can pick whatever we want, if it looks good.

[ fine with her. pyrrha nods, silently agreeing, before she follows shiro and falls to his side.

she's unusually quiet. ]

[ He notices. And as they make their way-- ]

If there's anything on your mind, I'm here for you.

[ i'm okay, she almost says. that would probably be more permissible if this were solely a personal matter. but this is something that affects everyone who knew lance, and shiro deserves to know--if he doesn't already. ]

Do you...know about Lance?

[ Ah.

He thought so. ]

Yeah. Pidge-- [ he tries very much to not look upset, and it works only slightly ] --contacted me when he disappeared.

I...thought she would.

[ she looks up at him and frowns. ]

I'm so sorry. It must be very tough on the both of you. Keith, too.

[ He nods. ]

If Keith ever remembers him, I think it'll hit him harder. But Lance was still Keith's first god.

[ He hesitates. ]

I wish I could be there more for Pidge. But... she's gone. And I can't check on her anymore like I have been.

[ He's always the one leaving, and now... he knows what it feels like to be left behind. ]

[ she nods. she hasn't and won't say a word to keith about it. not unless he remembers. pyrrha's good at keeping secrets and doesn't intend on breaking shiro's trust or putting keith in danger anytime soon.

but when he mentions that pidge is gone...

shiro will get stung again. news of pidge's disappearance hits pyrrha like a ton of bricks. ]

Shiro... I'm--I'm so sorry--

[ He's able to hide a lot, but. He winces, just the smallest bit. Immediately, he feels bad--and he's glad that she can't be stung.

She'd be suffering if she could, he thinks. ]

It's-- Don't apologize. Really. [ He sounds miserable, actually. ] That's why I came to you today. I was worried you'd be gone, too.

[ that.... ]

I'm here. And I'm not going anywhere.

[ she sounds so sure of herself. but there's no way she can know that for sure. ]

Pyrrha...

[ No, there's no way for her to know. But.... there's something about her confidence that makes Shiro smile.

He's lucky. ]

I'm not going anywhere, either. Not if I can help it.

[ suddenly, pyrrha stops walking. she looks down at the ground for a moment before her eyes flicker back up to meet shiro's.

wordlessly, she runs up to her god and pulls him into a hug.

it's a promise. ]

[ Ah.

He accepts the hug easily, his arms coming around her. He holds her for a while, until he can finally find the words. And when they come, they're quiet. Just for her to hear. ]

Thank you.

[ he says that, and pyrrha pulls back. just enough to look at him. her hands go on his shoulders, and her eyes are starting to well up with tears. it's the first time she's really cried in front of him since...the nightmares? no, not even then. she doesn't show this sort of vulnerability to just anyone. ]

You're family to me, Shiro. I don't know what I would do if I lost you, too.

[ For a long time, Shiro had taken on a lot of things alone. Even with Adam, he'd been the type to face things by himself, because he hadn't wanted to burden him. Turns out, that had pushed him away. The paladins had helped him overcome those issues--he'd learned to lean on them.

Or... somewhat. But they'd been a family to him. Coming here, he'd lost a lot of that. Lance and Keith hadn't remembered him. Pidge and Hunk had, but now they're both gone, and Shiro's not sure if Keith will ever remember him.

But still. Still, he might be a god, and Pyrrha might be a shinki, but it's more than that tying them together. They have a bond--true and real and strong. It runs deep, and Shiro can say without hesitation that Pyrrha is his family. He just hadn't thought she felt the same, too.

Until now. Shiro's breath catches, and his throat tightens. ]

Pyrrha. [ He swallows hard, but he can't keep himself from sounding choked up with emotion. ] You're my family, too. Without you... I don't think I'd be nearly as strong as I am.

[ He pulls her into another hug. He wants to say so much to her, but right now, he can't quite find the words. ]

Thank you.

[ SHIRO!!!

it's funny how alike these two are. both unsure of how the other felt, not used to leaning on other people--until now. pyrrha's always had this sense of wanting to shoulder everyone's burdens on her shoulders and she could never figure out why. but her time spent with him and the others in the heavens taught her that it's okay to rely on others--it doesn't always equate to being a burden.

without you... i don't think i'd be nearly as strong as i am.

she wants to tell him that she didn't do much, that he was strong all along, but she's too choked up. they've both loved and lost but shiro is suffering the most right now. lance and pidge, and keith who doesn't even remember him. and yet, he's still here, doing all he can to help other people.

pyrrha hugs him back without hesitation. ]

You don't need to thank me for anything.

[ She says that, and Shiro wants to say otherwise. How could he just go on, without telling the people who've helped him so much how grateful he is? Shiro can't imagine it.

But he chuckles thickly all the same, as he pulls back. ]

I'll always thank you, Pyrrha.

I will always thank you, too.

[ he's too kind. she pulls back, too, and puts her hands behind her back. ]

You've done so much for me since the day we first met. I... [ she hesitates. ] I've always wanted somewhere to belong. I'm not sure why...but that's how I felt when I arrived here.

You've given me that. And...it means more to me than words could ever express.

Of course, Pyrrha.

[ He doesn't think he's ever been just her god. From the first day, Shiro's felt drawn to her. He's liked her since he met her--and honestly, he sees so much of himself in her. But they're still different people, and Pyrrha is a cherished friend. ]

And you've been a great friend to me. You're not just my partner. That's why we work so well together. We trust and respect each other.

Of course I'll always do everything I can for you.

[ Not just because it's his responsibility. Pyrrha deserves all of that and so much more. ]

[ she wipes her eyes a little and finally smiles at him. ]

And the same goes for you as well, Shiro. It's no wonder we're such good friends.

[ she gestures towards the general direction of the sushi place. ]

I'm sorry for holding us up--let's make our way there, shall we?

[ He smiles at her, even if he does feel bad that she's crying. Friends. They're really good friends, aren't they? Honestly, Shiro counts Pyrrha as one of his best friends here.

He's a lucky guy. ]

It's no problem. We held each other up. [ He nods. ] Yeah. Let's go.

[ Once they're there, Shiro finds them prime seating, right at the bar. ]

Alright. Nice selection. [ It really is! ] What kind do you like best?

Hmm.

[ that is a very good question!! pyrrha likes sushi in general, but she does have a favorite, in fact: ]

Hamachi. I'd eat it with anything.

That's a good choice.

[ And it just so happens-- he grabs a plate for her and sets it in front of her. ]

Perfect.

[ nice. pyrrha wants to return the favor, though! ]

What do you prefer, Shiro?

[ It doesn't take long for him to say-- ]

Mackerel.

[ and the second mackerel appears on the conveyor belt, pyrrha snatches it before handing it over to shiro with grace. ]

There you are.

[ He chuckles, accepting it gratefully. ]

You're the best, Pyrrha. Thank you.

Of course. Let's eat?

That's what we're here for.

[ He grins, and takes his chopsticks. The mackerel is delicious. ]

We'll definitely have to come here more often.

I agree. I'll never say no to good food.

[ the hamachi is also very delicious! at least pyrrha looks like she's in better spirits, now. ]

We'll have to invite Keith, next time. Roxas, too.

[ He doesn't blame her for not knowing.

It's his fault; it's been such a long day, a high-speed neverending rollercoaster of emotions. Shiro's grip tightens on the chopsticks, and he releases a breath. ]

Keith, definitely. Roxas is--

[ God, he hates this. ]

Roxas isn't here anymore.

...Oh...

[ it just doesn't end, does it? the list of the friends they've lost only seems to keep on growing. shiro will get another sting, and pyrrha goes quiet for a few moments.

but...she and shiro are here to get their mind off of things. they've already talked about how much they don't want to lose one another. so...she takes a deep breath and puts on the best smile she can muster. ]

We can talk about it later. For now... Let's just enjoy the food.

[ Another sting, and the only thing effect it has on Shiro is that he wants to tell her it's okay. It's not her fault; she didn't know. Besides, it could be much, much worse.

He takes in a steadying breath. ]

And each other's company, right?

[ Somehow... his smile is earnest and genuine. ]

Of course.

[ her smile matches his. they have each other. things will be okay.

she finishes the other piece of sushi on her plate before she grabs another one from the belt. ]

[ If she voiced those thoughts, he'd definitely agree. As long as they've got each other, things will work out.

Shiro takes another plate. ]

Avocado rolls. Do you want to try one?

Oh, yes!

[ which reminds her to do the same. she holds out her plate--more hamachi!!--and points to one with her chopsticks. ]

Please, take one.

Thanks.

[ He smiles and takes a piece. Before he eats it, he offers her some from her plate. ]

Help yourself.

Don't mind if I do.

[ she chuckles a little before biting into one of the pieces. she smiles and nods, humming in satisfaction. ]

Oh...! It's really, really good!

[ And he'll bite into his hamachi! ]

Delicious. This was a pretty great idea.

Well... I'm happy we decided to come here.

[ she finishes her plate before she speaks up again. ]

Sushi days for whenever we're feeling down. How does that sound?

That sounds pretty great, Pyrrha.

[ He smiles a little after finishing his own. ]

So... Shifting gears, here. You've been making friends, right? I've seen one around the temple here and there.

[ she tilts her head curiously, but she realizes pretty quickly whom he's referring to. ]

Oh, are you talking about...Ren? [ blink blink ] Yes, he comes by every so often to say hello and hang out. Why do you ask?

[ He nods. ]

Just curious. [ He wonders... hm. Let's not embarrass. ] He seems like a good guy.

He is.

[ she's very quick to answer... ]

Ren is definitely...mysterious, and he doesn't open up very easily. But he's always doing the right thing. I admire that about him.
