Book Party [ota]

Who: Romeo, Elfnein and literally everyone in the heavens. Even if you weren't personally invited every invite came with a +ALL YOUR FRIENDS and there's also a sign. Strangers are just friends these two haven't met yet.
When: 29th April. Afternoon onwards
Where: Temple Smol (Gegute's library)
What: Just the cutest book party the heavens has ever known! Bring your best book!

Arrival

You might have received an invitation, or perhaps you are just passing Gegute’s library but there is an brightly painted sign outside.

Everyone welcome! Bring your best book or dress up!

Lots of tasty food!

The doors of the temple are open and once you arrive in the lobby there are more bright arrows pointing the way into the library. If you are still stuck mister Goat is at the help desk, he’ll direct any one who needs it!

Activities

The layout of the library hasn’t really changed at all, except a few tables being moved to accommodate activities and all the comfy reading cushions have been brought to a central location. All the shelves are decorated with colourful paper chains and streamers.

Romeo had really enjoyed Yuna’s birthday party with the activities to do so he had copied the idea for Elfnein’s book party! On one table there is material for making bookmarks. You might want to recut the card strips, they are a little wonky. There is ribbon and glitter and colouring pens and glue.

On another there is a cardboard box puppet theatre, painted in a riot of colours with colourful strips of material as curtains. There is some felt and other material, as well as scissors, glue and wool to make puppets with. A sign reads in childish Hirigana. Show your best book!

Food

The invitations had promised lots of tasty food and there sure was a lot! A whole table filled with tasty treats, Romeo had been very very busy! There was a whole tray of chopped fruit, another of vegetables like carrots and cucumber.

There was bread and cheese and two bowls of pasta with different sauces. Another bowl of noddles with meat and vegetables. There was a huge bowl of rice too with a tray of grilled fish and a bowl of broccoli and asparagus.

An entire part of the table was taken up by apples and things with apples in them, apple turnovers and even an attempt at an apple pie, it was a bit smushed but probably tasted fine.

There was a tray of very misshapen cookies with messy icing and another of even messier cupcakes with far too much buttercream. There were also churos and a chocolate Gateaux, these seemed to have been bought rather than made, Romeo hadn’t even known where to start it making them!

There was an attempt at making books and other shapes out of rice and vegetables packed in the two bento boxes Ebisu’s temple had given him for Christmas, but they were a bit crumbly, misshapen or just plain strange. In the centre of Romeo’s bento attempts was his magical bento box, every time it was opened there were different fancy bento creations, if the children’s attempts left a lot to be desired.

Before the party/arrivals

Romeo is very busy! He has been up all night because there was so much to do! Who knew that having a party would be such hard work. But he was sure it would all be worth it when his friends turned up and everyone had so much fun together! Elfnein had been helping too and he knew she was excited about the party as well!

He rushed around making sure all the food was ready and all the activities were set up and all the cushions were in the middle. When people began showing up he waved at them excitedly. He was dressed as a fox, orange ears on a headband and a big bushy tail clipped to his orange clothes. "Hello! Come in!"

Activities and food

Romeo skipped around, making sure to say hello to everyone and check that everyone had lots of tasty food and were having fun. He hopes he made enough things! He can be found by the activity stations for a while, concentrating very hard on making a glittery bookmark. He makes sure to keep checking that there's enough things for people to make, he has more craft things, he just didn't want to put too many things on the table or not everyone would fit!

"Do you need more glue?"

Crashing

When it seemed that everyone was having fun and they weren't going to run out of food or glitter Romeo settled on one of the beanbags near the puppet theatre. He had the book he was reading at the moment.

He sat with Ginga Tetsudō no Yoru on his knee as he found his place as he carefully began to read. It was a proper big book and much more complicated than Gon, the Little Fox!

But it's been a very long day and he had not slept at all the night before because he had wanted everything to be just right and for Elfnein and all his friends to have a really fun day.

So soon he was slumped over his book, a tiny fox fast asleep on a beanbag.

Activities

1.

[ Elfnein was at the bookmark making table trying to help anyone that needed supplies or ideas. Along with trying to finish her own project, which were sets of matching bookmarks in rainbow colors with plenty of stickers on them. ]

If anyone needs extra supplies I can bring some out from the back room!

2.

[ The puppet theater was mainly Romeo's idea but Elfnein was really excited to see what sort of act people would put on to tell the story of the books they loved. ]

[ She claimed one of the beanbag chairs and had a book of her own on her lap in case there needed to be something to fill time. ]

Food

[ Elfnein was very proud of all the food they managed to put out for the party. Most of the slicing and dicing were done by tag teaming all of the ingredients and for a second attempt at cooking a large meal it went well. Some of the cookies and cupcakes had poorly drawn smiles and flowers on them with icing, which was Elfnein's try at decorating before just making everything look decent and not smashed together. ]

Please, eat as much as you want.

After receiving such a charming letter of invitation, how could Yuna not show up for the day? She is not, by nature, much of a bookworm, so while picking out a best book might be a little tricky, she instead opts to bring along with her a book that's she's still in the middle of reading through in her spare time, but is greatly enjoying regardless.

"My my, you certainly went all out, didn't you?" Equipped with her copy of The Magician's Mobile Mansion, a bookmark stuck a little over half-way through it, hair left loose and dressed up in a ruffly white top, black slacks, and a pink caplet in an approximation of the book's 'magician', she can't help but admire all the hard work clearly put into making for an exciting day.

"And your fox costume is really cute! You're dressed as a specific one, right?" Given the suggestion left on the invitation, it's a fair guess! "Which book is this fox from?"

[ Honestly, books and kids are right up there on the list of Minako's least favourite things. So the combination of both is.. even less appealing, frankly speaking. But Romeo has been nice to her and sent her such a cute invitation that she'd feel guilty if she didn't at least pop in for a little bit.

Besides, she's found something to do other than read. Thankfully. At least by making a bookmark she can focus on something else for a while and still have attended the party.

It seems she's even focusing quite a bit on the bookmark - she doesn't notice Romeo until the other is next to her, speaking up to ask about the glue. ]

Oh-- Yeah, sure! In fact, that'd be perfect right about now.

"Hello miss Yuna!" Romeo ran up to her with a wide grin. He was glad she had come to the party and that she was all dressed up!

"Thank you miss! It's Gon! He's a really mischievous fox. The story is a bit sad but I read all of it!" He was very proud of that. Of being able to read a whole book all the way through. "What are you dressed as?"

Your buffet is certainly eclectic.

[ Don't call Hibiki out on the impressive size of this cake slice the spygoat next to her is carrying. Hibiki has also declined to dress up as a character from her favorite book - for now - but the goat is dressed up in a cape with a half-mask.

[He rushes off and is back a few moments later with more glue to squeeze into the pot.] Here you go miss Minako!

That's a really pretty bookmark! Are you having fun?

Thanks. [ More glue being present means she can continue with making her.. bookmark? There's one finished glittery one laying on the table, sure, but it's hard to tell if there's another bookmark underneath the sheer mountain of glitter she is starting to build in front of her. ]

And.. yeah, this is actually more fun than I thought! I thought I'd only be able to sit down and read books here, but this is way better.

Do you not like reading books miss? [He blinked at her, very surprised. He thought everyone liked reading books!]

Honestly, it feels like way too much has been happening lately for Chikusa. Sure, there's that cult stuff, but even on a personal level. So, while he's not super into doing... really anything at all, he's been lured by the promise of free food. As usual.

While he's stacking up food onto a plate that's balanced on a book (it's his, don't worry), he slowly glances around at the whole... spectacle of what's around.

"...People actually brought books..."

Question the amount of food he's getting? The fact that he's balancing his plate on a book of his own? The thing he just said? Chikusa is moving at the rate of molasses so it's not like he's going anywhere.

A - Arrival

With all the things that happen around, a cute party is just the thing Wendy needs, honestly. She's not hugely a reader, admittedly... With her god as she is, mostly she's been watching movies and television so that she has a better idea of how to act in movies or dance alongside Hibiki. Still, she does know some stories, and she's managed to dress up in a frilly lolita dress that is sort of like a princess dress that matches the crown she has nestled in the buns of her hair. There are a lot of princess stories, and so she could be anyone, really... Maybe someone should ask.

After all, Wendy sure is bouncing around, looking over all the other guests. "Mm, I hope I wasn't the only one who dressed up, or else this will be embarrassing..."

B - Activities

She has to admit, even with the offer of being able to dress up, Wendy has to admit that she thought a book party would be kind of boring. The second that she had seen the tables with all their crafts on them, however, she'd immediately made a beeline for it.

Now, she's more than happily at work, carefully recutting her bookmark. "Hey, are you doing anything with that glitter?"

C - Food

"Oh boy..." Despite the words, there's a certain kind of fondness in Wendy's exasperation as she looks over the various food that's been placed out. It's obvious that a lot of work has been put into everything here, but... "What a mess, huh? I can imagine what the kitchen looks like."

A - Arrival

Anyone who thinks Garry could refuse an invitation from a small child for a party has no idea what kind of person he is at heart, which is: a huge softy. He's even invited his god along for the ride, since it seems like a quiet enough affair. The dress up aspect is something he'd definitely been interested in, although he had to work on a slight budget: a loose short sleeved white shirt, black ballerina leggings beneath, and flats to match. It seems to match what shows of the cover of the book he has tucked into his arm, and he smiles at anyone who shows interest.

"With how... exciting everything has been lately, I've been sticking to quieter stories in the down time. At least then the stress and excitement is of a different sort, right?"

B - Activities

Garry wants to just relax and have a good time. He swears. Yet he just can't make himself comfortable, even as he tries to just idly make a bookmark or two. At first, he doesn't realize what's up... But other people might pick up on why he's so anxious first, as he keeps glancing back at the puppet stage.

It's silly, he knows. Sure, he got anxious last summer, with all those haunted houses and horror movie ads around, but that was different. These are just harmless puppets and the like, so... No need to worry, right? And yet he just can't stop feeling anxious...

He might get up to leave soon, even if it's just the room.

Ebisu and the two shinki he has accompanying him- Aomi and Kiwami- don't really have a lot of time to spare... but it's only right to respond to an invitation, isn't it? So he come trotting in, beaming brightly while Kiwami goes over to place a very expensive melon over near the rest of the food.

Honestly, Ebisu doesn't have a lot of favorite books... Not yet, beyond what he knows get on bestseller lists. He'll easily admit that this is perhaps not the best party for him to be at. That's not stopping him from trying his best, however, and he quickly makes his way over to where the crafts are.

Five minutes later, and he's spilled a bunch of glitter glue over both his bookmark and the table. He's left frowning down at it. "So much harder than I expected..."

With most of the books she reads in digital format or as visual novels, and the few physical books she owns mostly reference books, Ginia goes the route of dressing up. She can't stay too long as there's always work to catch up on, but how could she turn down Romeo's invitation?

Arriving separately from her god and coworkers, she arrives with a box (there's a cake inside) and a bag overflowing with assorted bread fresh from the bakery. Her attire of choice is a dashing black coat over her black slacks and button-down shirt, a leather swordbelt and plastic rapier on her hip. Her hair is braided back, a dark blue ribbon tied at the end.

"Glad to be here!" she signs, offering the bag of bread to Romeo. Can't come to a party empty-handed after all. More snacks for the snack table!

Don't worry, Wendy is far from the only one dressed up. Seated at the craft table, Ginia has the sleeves of her black coat rolled up. There's already a bit of glitter on the sleeve of the coat, but as long as it's not on her work clothes, it's fine.

(By the time she leaves, she'll probably have glitter on her work clothes.)

She's trimming a bookmark with her combat knife, a few jars of glitter next to her. At Wendy's question, she nods, moving the jars closer before reaching for her phone. Remarkably, it's glitter free.

"I'll need some of the blue and silver later, but help yourself."

The joy of a book party is seeing what everyone else is reading, but the dress-up aspect is a nice bonus. Ginia isn't carrying a book, but she's definitely dressed up. A black coat layered over her white button-down shirt and black slacks, carefully braided hair with a blue ribbon on the end, and a leather sword belt and a plastic rapier on her hip add a bit of a fantastic flair.

"A quieter story sounds great at this time." Ginia agrees through the played message on her phone, a friendly smile accompanying her words. "What's the story about?"

[A small fox flopped on the beanbag next to her, Romeo was having a few moments rest between running around making sure everything was going alright and no one had ran out of anything!

This was such a good party! He was glad that they had managed to do something really fun for all their friends!]

Are you having fun, Elfnein?

[Because it was important she was enjoying herself too! Romeo hoped Elfnein was having lots of fun with all her friends. She was such a good friend and Romeo had wanted to make sure this party was a success!]

Romeo was really glad to see Chikusa! He hasn't seen him in a little while and he's glad he's come to the party today!

"Of course they brought books! Did you bring one?"

Romeo has been bouncing around the food table, making sure nothing ran out! There is more of some things in the kitchen. He had worried earlier that day that they had made too much food but now seeing Chikusa's pile he thinks it will be alright! Everything will get eaten!

"It's so messy." Romeo is at her elbow. He had tried his best to make all the food out here look good, so it's a little sad that someone thought it was a mess. But the kitchen... He doesn't want to think about the kitchen! He's probably going to have to stay awake all night again to clean it all up! Who would have thought cooking could be so messy!

"I like your costume, Wendy!" Romeo is dressed as a fox and he's glad other people were dressed up too!

Romeo has been trying to say hello to everyone who had come to the party! As well as making sure that there's enough food and enough glitter for everybody! He hadn't been over to see Garry yet, he was glad to see him!

But he could tell something was a little wrong with how he kept looking at the puppet theatre and looking worried. Soon he has a tiny fox child at his side.

"Are you alright, mister Garry?"

"Glitter is tricky!" Romeo is glad to see Ebisu! He knew that his friend was a really really busy god so it was really nice of him to come to Romeo and Elfnein's book party! He's glad to see Aomi and Kiwami as well and smiles at them both.

"Do you want me to get you more card?"

"Thank you for coming here!" Romeo signs, and says, a little clumsy as he tries to sign and take the bag all at the same time. But he manages it! More food for the food table! He's glad that no one will go hungry at this party!

"Thank you! It looks really yummy! Your costume is so nice miss Ginia! What book are you from?"

Ginia approaches her temple with some degree of sheepishness, a roll of paper towels in hand. She's not skipping work! Not much! She's just using her break to visit a friend's party because if there's one thing she's not going to do it's hurt the feelings of a child. That it's also an excuse for her to dress up like a dashing fencer from one of her favorite visual novels is a bonus.

At least she comes bringing paper towels. Ginia quickly wipes up the glittery mess before it can spread too far. There's no saving the bookmark, but there are plenty of blanks to work with. She throws the wad of paper towels away and trades it for her phone.

"Glitter glue is tricky." With everyone using the glue, it's a few nozzles have clogged; even she's accidentally squirted out more glue than she intended.

Ginia is seconds away from suggesting he use a glue stick and dust glitter on top before remembering exactly who she's talking to. With his clumsiness, he will definitely spill the glitter. With his luck, he'd probably avoid getting any on himself while covering everyone else. Okay, new plan.

"I'll see if I can unclog the nozzle on the glue bottles, that might help."

Arrival

[Yaone's out for a walk when she spots the sign. A book party sounds delightful. She doesn't enter the temple immediately, instead returning to the temple to find a book and something wear first. Yaone's own wardrobe is somewhat meager, given that she has two shinki to provide for now, so she winds up going through her predecessor's belongings to find something worthy of a special occasion.

Yaone returns soon enough, however, dressed in fancy, purple traditional costume and carrying an old volume of Chinese fairy tales taken from her temple library that she's been reading. After following the arrows to the library, the elfin-looking woman pokes her head in the door, a somewhat cautious but friendly smile on her face. She's a stranger to the residents of the temple, after all, but the only she's going to meet new people is to go out and meet them, isn't it?]

Hello. I saw the sign outside and decided that a book party sounded lovely. I hope you do not mind a new visitor.

[Her tone is soft but very polite and a tad bit uncertain. Yaone's not exactly shy but she is a little bit self-conscious in an unfamiliar temple.]

Activities

[Despite Yaone's elegant dress and prim demeanor, she dives into the crafts with surprising enthusiasm. It's not long before she's carefully tweaking a set of card strips into animal-shapes and eagerly coloring them in with the available pens. Curiously, Yaone's color choices tend to be off-beat and quirky and don't really follow any sort of natural scheme though the animals are clearly identifiable as themselves.

Then she discovers the glitter and starts making them sparkly. Yaone's making herself plenty sparkly, too, as she gets the glitter all over her costume, face, and hands. She doesn't appear to care in the least though and she's all smiles as she sets aside her latest finished product to dry. Well, almost finished. She still has to decide on a ribbon of which she is holding up several as she turns to the person nearby.]

Excuse me but what to do you think of these colors? I cannot decide which one to pick.

[Given the rather technicolor nature of her bookmark, it's very possible she might try to use all of them if left to her own devices.]

Food

[Even though Yaone isn't the slightest bit put off by the misshapen nature of some of the treats available, she is somewhat a picky and health-conscious eater. Her plate is stocked with chopped fruits and vegetables along with small pieces of bread and cheese, all of which she is contentedly nibbling on while reclining on one of the reading cushions, the fairytale book she brought with her open.

Feel free to strike up a conversation with her. If someone asks nicely, Yaone might be persuaded into reading a story to someone.]

[Yaone isn't the only adult dressed elegantly but also diving enthustically into the crafts. Ginia is seated on the other side of the table, an elegant black coat over a white button-down shirt, her braided hair hanging over her shoulder with a dark blue ribbon on the end. She's folding a flower out of a piece of paper to later glue onto her bookmark.

She's glanced at Yaone's work, charmed by the colorful menagerie of animals forming. How creative! When the other woman addresses her, Ginia considers the selection of ribbon, picking out a pale pink and a rich purple.

There's a pause as she pulls her cellphone out of her pocket (miraculously free of glitter), swiftly typing away before playing message for Yaone to hear.]

The pink matches the color nicely, but the purple provides a nice contrast.
