can you hear my call ( CLOSED )
Who: Pippa and Axel
When: April 14
Where: The Near Shore
What: Prayer #11
Warnings: None for now, will update if necessary
[ Well, if that wasn't a strange prayer. Pippa understands frustration, but how difficult can finding a job be? (Clearly, someone's never had trouble finding a job.) It seems an easy enough prayer, which is why she and Axel are out in the Near Shore, helping some poor sod try to find work. ]
Well! Where shall we start?

Well! Where shall we start?

-- You know, figure out their skills, what they're looking for. I mean, unless they just want anything that pays. I found a couple convenience store openings when I was looking.
no subject
I assume they won't be terribly picky, if they're so desperate!
no subject
[Maybe, maybe not. It could be that anything would do but they're just bad at looking, he guesses; and if that's the case this is going to be pretty easy. He smirks.]
So! You got the prayer, Pippa. Lead the way.
no subject
[ ... She might be a little annoyed. Pip, please chill. ]
Very well! [ ONWARD TO... finding their person. They're not too hard to find; it's a dour-looking sort of young man, who's clutching a bundle of job applications. ]
It's no use... I'll never find a job. I'm going to die out on the streets all alone...
... My, we've found an optimistic one, haven't we.
no subject
[Axel casually leans over, tugging the top application in the stack out of the guy's hands to look it over. Cashier at a bookstore?]
... Hey, I don't think we're gonna have to worry about getting a specialty job for this guy.
Come on, pay attention! Hello!
[He waves a hand vigorously under the man's nose.]
Job assistance right in front of you, snap out of it.
no subject
U-uhh...
You know, it is terribly rude to ignore help when it is staring you in the face.
[ ... The guy doesn't answer because he's so bewildered. Job assistance? What? ]
no subject
Well, she's a god, and we overheard the prayer.
[The guy still looks bewildered (to be fair, maybe it's a little weird to hear something like that.) Axel sighs.]
Job help. What job do you want? Convenience store clerk work for you?
[Maybe that's simple enough for him to understand....]
no subject
[ She's really pretty, is what he's thinking, but he can't help but be tongue-tied around her. An actual goddess. ]
Pick up your jaw from the floor, sir. [ ... He does, at least! ] Please answer the question. [ Complete with eyelash batting. ]
Oh-- uhhh. I'd kind of like to... write? Or? Something.
no subject
He props one hand on a hip, surveying the guy.]
So. Writing. Got any on you?
[He waves the top paper at him.] I want to see if you're any good before we try to go out and find you a job doing it.
[This is reasonable, right? Axel doesn't actually know what makes good writing, but he figures he can spot really shitty writing, and if that's the problem they can get this guy into anything with a paycheck and tell him to work on his skills first.]
no subject
Uh. Here?
Let's take a look, shall we!
[ Pippa leans closer to Axel, flipping the notebook open. He's actually not half-bad! ]
no subject
[Axel's got to admit, he's impressed. His own writing ability's nothing to brag about (basically it starts and ends with "can actually write words"), so this? This is cool.
Maybe it won't be so bad getting this guy the job he wants.]
So, how do you get paid for writing, anyway? Send it in to somebody who'll publish it?
no subject
You are quite welcome, sir.
[ There's that, at least. ]
Do you suppose he could secure a job as a news writer? He does seem the observant sort, if his writings are anything to go by.
no subject
[Axel promptly pulls his phone out of his pocket and starts googling for want ads. He glances over the top of it at the guy as it loads.]
Think you could do something like that? I mean, there's got to be a million news outlets in a big city like this one. Somebody does the legwork.
no subject
That's, uh. That's okay! I think you guys have helped enough--
no subject
[Axel props a hand on his hip, looking the job-seeker up and down. He doesn't look all that much more confident. Worried, mostly. Maybe he doesn't think Axel and Pippa would be too good at sitting in on an interview for him? Nah, what could make him think that?
Axel smirks.]
Hey, I just got a job myself.
[Mostly through blind luck and a new shop that desperately needed employees, but it was something.]
How about you toss another prayer our way if you need extra help then?
