Who: Hakkai and Hibari
What: Hakkai feels the need to confront a certain violent shinki about his actions....

Hibari wasn't happy when he left the sakura party, and he certainly wasn't happy later when he'd stashed himself far from his god in Hakkai's new temple. It of course, had to be run by the same asshole who'd pushed him into a duck pond; but he was allowed to stay as long as he didn't actually punch Gojyo in the face.

Or the creepy shinki who kept wandering around, that Hibari had gotten into a tussle a couple times with before he realized how little fight there was to be had and ignored him.

Still creepy.

The best part about staying over though, was the little dragon. Jeep seemed to be getting along with Kishi just fine, and Hibari was more than content to complain about his situation to the creature while petting him and feeding him fish.

He knew he was going to have to deal with the problem of Ren having another shinki eventually, but for right now, without a school to patrol and focus attention on, he was at a loss right here on Hakkai's couch.

"Hibari?" Hakkai paused at the door of the side room. The younger shinki was sprawled out across the couch, only a shock of dark hair and one shoulder visible around the edge of the arm. He wouldn't have bothered to warn the boy in advance, except, of course, startling him tended to result in the annoying need to beat him up.

Hakkai was much better with his claws than he had been, but he still didn't trust himself to be able to go all-out without killing. That was a fine line.

"We should talk," he said, and crossed his arms.

Well the good thing was that Hibari was fully healed and slightly less moody, so he only had regular amounts of annoyance in his tone when Hakkai finally spoke up.

"What do you want?" The shinki didn't even move, since Jeep was curled up on him and Kishi was perched at his feet.

"Oh -- a few things," Hakkai said lightly, stepping into the room and letting his arms fall back to his sides. He crossed to the window, glancing outside, and then turned his gaze on Hibari. Ah. Jeep had found a spot at about mid-ribcage. Hakkai smiled slightly.

"First, how long do you plan to stay here?"

Kishi at least meowed and jumped off the couch, stalking over to Hakkai just in case the older man had some treats hidden on him somewhere. His owner, however, remained stationary, occasionally stroking the little dragons neck.

"You never complained when Elsa was around. I'll tell you what I told you then-I don't like being crowded around his temple," Hibari said simply.

This time was different though. First it had been his god, but now it was the unwanted extra.

"I might have objected more if you'd gotten into fights with her," Hakkai commented. He leaned down, offering a hand to the kitten, and murmured, "Sorry, it's not dinnertime yet."

This time was different, of course. Not because of Gojyo -- who could take care of himself in most situations -- as much as Gojyo's soulless shinki; and, of course, Ren's new one.

He had to admit to himself that he didn't know who would take Hibari if Ren finally lost his patience. There weren't many gods who would accept that much of a headache.

"And besides," he said, scratching Kishi's ears, "you and Ren do still have to work together, you know."

"What, so worried about Gojyo's safety? I'm pretty sure even if I actually tried fighting him, that cockroach would still somehow survive." His hair gave away his true cockroach nature to be honest; and along with his persistant annoyance towards the young shinki.

"Or do you mean that creeping rat who's always prowling around? He's not even worth bothering with." A few 'skirmishes' made him realize that quite quickly. It was no fun fighting prey that didn't actually fight back.

But at the mention of Ren, Hibari's body language and expression quickly soured and he didn't answer. Clearly it wasn't something he wanted to talk about, so Hibari just decided to ignore it and stare at Jeep instead.

Kishi himself wasn't going to be denied food or affection, as now he was clawing his way up Hakkai's leg.

"I mean both of them." Kishi was going to put holes in his trousers at this rate. Hakkai leaned down to detach the kitten from the cloth and lift him into his arms, murmuring under his breath. "Settle down now. -- Hibari, it's not that Gojyo can't fight you perfectly well, it's that I don't respond well to someone attacking my friends. As you should know."

After all, Hibari'd seen Hakkai threaten to fight for him before. That didn't mean he was allowed to attack Gojyo with impunity. Or, of course, Asshole, who was helpless in a way more profound than even a normal shinki who couldn't fight.

The kitten was now happy with being held in Hakkai's arms, settling for mewing lightly before kneading at the man's shirt. Hibari on the other hand, looked as though he was going to get up, had Jeep not centered himself where he was.

"Really? I've never seen you do that before. I couldn't care less if Gojyo was somehow your secret admirer, I will fight him if he disturbs me."

For him the soulless shinki wasn't worth a mention; the idiot's presence didn't even register on Hibari's radar anymore.

Hakkai was an observant man and somehow Hibari knew that he'd be able to sense the shinki was much more combative than usual, but he was too tired of life to care.

Hakkai managed to turn his startled cough into a throat-clearing. It was a good thing that Hibari wasn't a particularly keen observer of the softer emotions.

Secret admirer, indeed. It wasn't even as secret as Gojyo'd prefer, which was not very.

"Let's see," he murmured, "I've backed you up a time or two," and raised his eyebrows at Hibari.

That actually got a startled look from Hibari-it was clear that while he did know Hakkai was a very volatile person when it came to things he wanted to protect, having him say that he stood up for Hibari implied one thing that made his stomach twist in surprise and disgust.

"I apologize, Jeep, but I have to move now." Despite a protest squeak, Hibari gently picked up the dragon and set him off onto the couch where he wouldn't get disturbed.

The next movement was to pull out his tonfas with a jerk of his wrists and hold them in front of him. "What do you think you're implying with that."

He really didn't know why the idea of it made his skin crawl so much; he didn't need protecting? Something like a friend was useless? People were not to be trusted? It could've been all of them at once.

Hakkai gave Hibari a flat stare as Jeep shook himself off and took to the air, circling around the room to land on Hakkai's shoulder and cheep in annoyance at both of them.

"I consider you a friend. It's not a threat, I promise."

Although, he supposed, he had seen more than one friend vanish so far. Maybe it should be thought of as threatening.

At least he could take comfort in the certainty that he couldn't make more trouble for Hibari than Hibari was capable of making for himself.

"Kishi, get down from there." Apparently the kitten heard his name and thought he might get treats, as he started wiggling out of Hakkai's arms to try and reach the ground. Whatever worked, because at the man's next statement Hibari was swinging a tonfa forward at the opposite shoulder that Jeep was on.

More of a warning blow than anything else, but he wasn't stopping after that.

Hakkai dropped the kitten, trusting Kishi to find his feet like a cat should as he slashed one hand out -- towards the tonfa, not Hibari's wrist, a move that risked breaking his own fingers but avoided the danger of sinking his long new claws into flesh.

Control was something that came with familiarity, and this body wasn't yet familiar to him. It was stronger, faster, and naturally much more well-armed, and if Hibari wanted to go too far with his violent insecurities right now, Hakkai might just accidentally kill him.

He dug his claws hard into the tonfa, trying to make his grip too solid for Hibari to shake, and twisted the weapon hard against Hibari's fingers.

Both small animals had already fled to somewhere out of reach, and that allowed Hibari to go full out with the next blow to the same arm, only to have the other tonfa twisted in his grip. The shinki's eyes widened as the tug on his weapon was far stronger than Hakkai had been previously-apparently the youkai's new appearance wasn't just for show.

That tonfa dropped to the ground, but Hibari drew back before he could be disarmed further, spikes appearing on the other one to stop the man from gripping it. He couldn't afford to hold anything back anymore.

"Roll," Hibari called softly, the little purple hedgehog emerging from his ring, "Your help, please."

The little hedgehog fused with the tonfa he had left to form a pair of spiked handcuffs, dangling off of Hibari's outstretched finger. It looked harmless for the moment, but Hibari then jumped backwards and all of a sudden he was holding two of them, both of the chains flying forward to wrap around Hakkai's arms.

Jeep took flight, his cries piercing and unhappy.

Hakkai let the chains hit his arms, and wrapped his hands around them in turn. The vine patterns on his hands moved like snakes, wrapping around the metal and racing back towards Hibari with lightning speed to wrap around him and bind him in place in turn.

"Stop it," he snapped. "Sit down."

The first few moments the vines took ahold of Hibari, he couldn't figure out what Hakkai had just DONE. However, as the shinki kept struggling, he realized that his strength wasn't working. Hibari didn't even hear the commands Hakkai snapped at him; he wanted to get free, because he hated being tied down-

He couldnt release Roll as he was, but he could still replicate the hedgehog into a bunch of tiny spiked balls that were expanding from all the cloud flames emanating from his ring. "Let. Me. Go."

One of the spiked balls tore past Hakkai's cheek, opening a bloody gash, and his lips thinned with annoyance as he glanced at Hibari's face. He wasn't going to stop fighting as long as he was restrained, was he?

The vines whipped free of Hibari's skin and back along the chains, coiling back into their places on Hakkai's arms, and he stepped back, deliberately lowering his hands to his sides.

"Calm down."

That was when Hibari released a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding as the vines retracted, and almost as quickly withdrew his handcuffs as well. Roll returned to his needle ball form, and the younger shinki held up the tonfa still in his grasp as the rest of his spiked balls floated around in the air.

"Do you really think I'll forget and forgive that easily?" This wasn't the school; the only reason Hibari wasn't going full out was because Kishi and Jeep were in the area, and another strange feeling in his heart he'd rather not admit to.

The balls for the most part, vanished, as Hibari's tonfa burst into flame and he leapt forward again, swinging at Hakkai's head.

Hakkai dodged with youkai speed, blurring as he flung himself into a roll and came up behind the couch with his limiters in one clawed hand. He slipped them on, fast, his breath catching at the way the world closed down and went flat around him. This frailer, slower form wouldn't do any permanent damage. This body's reflexes were still the ones that matched his subconscious expectations.

Maybe someday he'd remember why he'd never had his limiters off for long before, he thought as he rolled smoothly to his feet. It was a little darker in the room than he'd thought, but the glow of Hibari's burning weapons gave plenty of light for even a human to see by.

Whether Hakkai was wearing his limiters now or not didn't matter to Hibari; he barely acknowledged the change in appearance before walking forward to scoop up his other weapon, lunging at the older man.

The Cloud flames weren't hot to the touch at all, they just kept up an eerie purple light as Hibari strove to drive both metal tips into Hakkai's rib cage.

"I'm in no mood to fight," Hakkai snapped at him. The flames weren't hot; his shirt and flesh didn't singe as he twisted to let the tonfa slide along his ribs instead of slamming home with full force. That made it easier. He reached over the nearest weapon, closing his hand hard over Hibari's upper arm, and pulled, shifting his weight as he tried to use the momentum of that lunge to throw Hibari over his shoulder and down hard to the ground.

Kishi had vanished (under furniture or sensibly out of the room, probably) and Jeep was half-crouched, half-coiled on a lampshade in the corner screeching with what sounded very much like outrage at both of them. Wonderful. Not only was he going to have to re-injure Hibari because he'd made the mistake of discussing positive emotions, he'd have to spend the rest of the day apologizing to a dragon.

Hibari didn't care if Hakkai was in the mood to fight or not-frankly, he wasn't either. It was less a drive to fight and more a drive to cause pain, any pain in the man who suggested that he needed something as terrible as a friend.

Kishi had indeed fled the room, and Hibari was grabbed by the older shinki and thrown on the floor. Luckily for him, he had a cats reflexes and managed to roll before getting up, tonfa in front of his body in case Hakkai wanted to kick him while he was down.

When it was apparent he wasn't going to, Hibari then brought up his right tonfa, suddenly releasing the spiked chain from the end, shooting it like a cannon at Hakkai's torso. The cloud flames allowed it to grow longer than normal and even pierce the opposite wall if it got that far.

This was really starting to annoy him, Hakkai reflected, ducking under the chain and lunging forward to hit Hibari in the torso with an outstretched palm. If he didn't dodge, the blow should bear him down to the ground, and then maybe Hakkai would have a chance to disarm him before Jeep, Kishi, or any major structural elements of Gojyo's temple were the next casualty.

Hibari didn't have time enough to think of a more elegant solution-he stepped backwards from Hakkai, dragging the chain out of the wall so the spiked end recoiled hopefully back into his opponent, and blocked the rest of Hakkai's attack with Roll's spiked balls quickly blooming out of nowhere.

There had to be a better way then having his own spikes digging into his shoulders, pressing against the older shinki, but if it let him reduce the damage, then he really didn't care.

Hakkai's breath hissed through his teeth as the spikes hit his palm and shoulders, and he met Hibari's eyes coldly.

At this rate, they really would destroy something, he thought, and deliberately relaxed, pulling his hand away from Hibari's chest and letting it fall to his side as he took a step back. Hibari wasn't going to stop fighting for less than serious injury, that was clear enough, and trying to restrain him sent him into a panic.

Besides, what better way to express his disapproval than to refuse to fight?
