013 | How To Save A Life

Who: Everyone!
What: Investigating suicides
When: Afternoon June 16
Where: The Near Shore (Tokyo)
Summary: Investigation and reporting
Warnings: Talk of suicide/suicide ideation.

There has been a very sudden, very disturbing increase in the number of suicides committed in Tokyo recently. While this sometimes happens for naturally occurring reasons, the Heavens have a suspicion that something is wrong here. So they are enlisting the help of any gods and shinki that are willing to give their time, including newly arrived gods and shinki who will be informed of their situation before being directed anywhere.

It's up to you whether you are interested in helping the Heavens out, they only want those who are willing to lend a hand. Though if your god/shinki forces you along with them, that should be fine too.

Briefing

The briefing of the situation will be happening at the Meeting Hall of the gods, orders coming directly from Suijin herself. After the explanation is given, gods and shinki will be given supplies to help them, including books on how to help people in bad situations, water bottles, and some light snacks to take with them. This could go all night, so make sure you stock up on what you need before you take off.

The Streets

Streets that are usually bustling and loud are somber and awkward now. Many of the people seem to be down in the dumps and those who aren't are so put off by the situation that they are keeping mostly quiet. When approached, the ones who are obviously depressed will talk only of how life isn't worth it and how they wish it was all over. Others will comment on how confusing this all is coming from the people that are depressed. NPC interaction with mods will be available, but you are welcome to control your own NPCs as well.

Ayakashi

Perhaps unsurprisingly, those who spend enough time talking to the people in Tokyo will suddenly realize that there are a number of ayakashi attaching themselves to each of the affected people. That's right, multiple ayakashi connected to each person. They will have to be destroyed to free the person from their depressing thoughts, but there sure are a lot of them around. And, to make matters worse, a very aggressive, noisy kind of ayakashi will show up randomly to interfere with everything. They require teamwork to defeat and are hell-bent on attacking gods and shinki rather than humans.

Reporting In

Reports about what you have seen and who you have saved and what you have destroyed can be taken back to the Meeting Hall where Suijin will be waiting to be briefed. Those who bring her information are likely to be rewarded, though they might not realize just what kinds of rewards they are receiving.

In Summary:
  • Get informed
  • Go do some fieldwork
  • Find and defeat some ayakashi
  • Save some lives
  • Report back in to Suijin
  • Have fun~

Don't mention it

...Maybe a black tea, with honey and lemon.

[Because she had to specify, just in case some well-meaning soul tried to put some milk into her preferred tea. Felicia sighed and offered Neji one of her bags of sweets along with a wan smile as she approached, too emotionally drained to bother questioning how the young man had known she was there in the first place. Working alongside her lady Athena had taught her a great deal about how perceptive some people could be, and she had come to simply accept the strangeness without question.

And, after spending the last few nights trying to talk people down from the edge, a little break might be nice.]

I hear this place sells good snacks. I'll buy you one, if you want.

[He raises a brow to start off-- what, did he look like he was taking orders?-- but it's mostly mute, subdued amusement. Even without a bathing suit and sun's glow, there are few people he's encountered with Felicia's brand of radiance (please don't read too much into it) and he places her immediately.

What exactly she was doing with the bag in hands, though-- oh, was he supposed to--]
Let's get something to drink first. [Look, he'll go so far as to hold the door open for the lady and-] Thank you.

[Snacks, though, hadn't exactly been on his mind. It reminds him that, yes, he is starved.

And maybe he ought to get something for Ixtab.]
Tired yet? [It's not a malicious question; it's even somewhat gentle.]

[She didn't read much into Neji's observations at all. In her eyes, he was a hard working young man who was perhaps a touch too grave...and they were working so hard to keep people out of graves that Felicia found herself worrying after him from time to time. There was something in his carriage that seemed off somehow.

And, naturally, Felicia wanted to see if there was any way she could help.

Stepping through the opened door, Felicia cast him a small smile in her thanks.]

...Maybe a little, [she admitted, shrugging in a way that was meant to brush off any of his concerns.] It's not so bad, though. My Lady Athena is working hard, but there are some who are working even harder than she is.

Don't worry about it, okay?

[She made a beeline for the nearest empty table so she could set her bag down-- both to relieve herself and claim a spot for them in the cafe.]

How about you? Are you resting enough?

[Oh. She served Athena. Neji is, for some reason, surprised and maybe it shows on his face for a moment before he wipes it. In the end it's a calm sort of heaviness that sets into him and Neji can only call it a comfort; look, Felicia was in good hands. He thinks. And Athena-sama would be cared for (he thinks) and if Yuri cares for her then. Yeah. That was something good.

He takes Felicia's word to not fret over her. Nods and... sighs? and kind of feels bad for having not offered to help her with the bags if they were that heavy.]
I'm fine. [Which answers both questions, right? So he's good, right? --no there's no way that's enough to ward off any sort of worry that may be directed towards him (gods forbid).] As you said-

[well not really but it's the principle of the thing-] Ixtab-sama is working herself to the bone. We've tried to get her to rest a little. In those times, I suppose we've rested enough as well. ["We". He can't speak for the other shinki, though. Oh well- too late. He manages to shrug, noncommittal as well.] Don't worry about it. This will be over soon.

Now then- our drinks?

[Lara was indeed in good hands, for she had somehow found herself with a Shinki who found the act of betraying her god utterly unthinkable. A life of service felt normal to Felicia-- it was why she hadn't questioned anything since becoming acquainted with the denizens of The Far Shore, and why she gave her all in every task that came her way.]

It will be, [She agreed, a small smile warming her face. While she did have her worries, being near a like-minded person was enough for her to put them aside. They needed to be strong if they were to succeed.

They needed to stand together.]

Let's be sure to take care of ourselves, or we won't be able to help anyone. A cup of tea sounds like a good place to start, doesn't it?
