[Teasing isn't too hard for Davesprite to recognise in that response - it's even easier when something in him can't believe anyone would say anything like that to him for any other reason - and he gives a dry little laugh and a shrug.]

I mean, sure, if you're desperate to head up that bridge anything except by yourself I can offer my fine feathery ass to that end.

[More like if she's desperate enough to head up that bridge with him personally, because as far as he's concerned, she'd have to be to consider him an option.]

Wh-what, really? You don't mind?

[Blushing intensifies. Okay, she's pretty sure this is just a pity date. But hey, she'll take it.]

[...Davesprite had been pretty sure this was the equivalent of a pity date too, but seeing her look so awkward makes him shuffle his tail a little uncomfortably.]

I mean, if you really don't want to walk the bridge alone and you're actually gonna ask the half a bird dude lurking around watching everyone else get their romantic on, then sure, I don't mind. [Even if something of him is screaming that this is a really bad idea, and it's nothing to do with Hiyoko and everything to do with him.]

Um, I don't mind if you don't mind.

[She reaches up to nervously toy with a lock of her hair and lets out a nervous giggle.]

Er, I mean yeah. I'd like that.

I mean, I'm pretty sure we already established that we both don't mind. [Aaaaand he's rambling even more than usual. Something about this still feels very wrong to him, but it's not uncommon for that to happen, so he tamps down on it for now.

After a kind of awkward few moments, Davesprite belatedly offers her a taloned hand.]

Right, uh, do you want to. You know. Do the hands thing.

Huh? Oh, yeah... Sure.

[As she very gently slides her hand into his it occurs to her that she can't even remember the last time she held hands with a boy. Which does nothing to lessen the color in her cheeks.

As they step onto the bridge she casts about in her mind for some topic of conversation. Why is this suddenly so hard? Usually she never runs out of things to say!]

So, um, nice sturdy bridge they made this year.

[Nice sturdy bridge?? Asking about the weather would've been better than that! Ugh. If the bridge could collapse now and drag into the watery depths that would be great.]

[Davesprite's hand is about what one would expect from a hand that's visibly part-bird, part-human - the texture of the skin is a little rough like a talon would be, but not overly so. He closes his hand gingerly, as if concerned he's going to prick her with his talons otherwise, and finally lowers his ghostly behind to the ground properly so he can at least look like he's walking next to her.

This is awkward as hell for him too, and he's just mentally fishing around for something to try and break the mortifying silence when Hiyoko makes that remark and he jumps on it.]

Yeah, if you want a bridge made well then apparently call the fucking heavenly bird brigade, they'll get that shit done in the finest quality birdseed and well-wishes can buy.

[It's a surprise when he picks up her awkward conversational thread and runs with it. But it does make her feel a little less mortified.]

I know, right? They could make a killing in the construction business.

[With the tension a little lighter, she tries again at a conversation topic. Maybe one less silly this time.]

So, um, are you enjoying the festival?

[They can feel less mortified together, because right now Davesprite will take just about anything that makes him feel like that's the case here.]

Damn straight. Seems a shame to waste skill like that on business that only booms once a year for the ones that have passionate birdlike dreams in building the next big thing.

[But enough rambling, he can probably handle a less silly conversation topic, probably.]

I can say without a doubt that it has definitely been a festival. [So that's helpful.]

Well... yeah. But that doesn't tell me if you're enjoying it.

[It does sort of highlight something she's been thinking about for a while though.]

Although... I kind of know what you mean. There's so many festivals and parties around here it's getting hard to tell them all apart. It's fun but I'm starting to think maybe they should try to spice them up a little. Or spend more time on the actual problems facing the heavens.

[Either or.]

It's pretty fun, don't get me wrong, but I don't feel like I'm in enough on the tradition behind it to actually appreciate the whole thing properly instead of just doing normal festival shit. I mean, not getting attacked by the undead is cool, but yeah, other than that they're kind of starting to blur into one.

[Admittedly, he probably could've done more to research the festival beforehand, but even that seems like it would've done very little to alleviate how he feels about it now. It's not going to stop him enjoying it, but there is that niggling feeling that he's just not getting out of it what some others here might be.]

[She lets out a surprised little giggle.]

You know that's a good point. The grass may not be greener here but it sure has less zombies on it.

[She appreciates anybirdie who can find unexpected bright sides. Taking a little chance, she inches a little closer.]

And nothing else has gone wrong either. This might just be the best festival we've had yet.

I'll take having less zombies over greener anyway, when the grass gets too green that's reason to start raising some eyebrows anyway.

[The logic of "too good to be true" and that sort of thing. A party actually going off without getting attacked by anything doesn't quite cross that line.

Davesprite doesn't seem to notice the shift closer, though the wing closer to her tucks itself in a bit as if in a subconscious recognition to avoid bumping her.]

I mean, we haven't had that many in the time I've been here, so the competition isn't real stiff, but yeah, we can give it the "good job on not fucking up" crown for now.
