Summary: Mortals may be partying, but there's lots of work for the denizens of the Far Shore to do.



It's the final day of Obon and spirits are being sent back to their homes -- both the ancestral spirits that have been welcomed home for the duration of the festival and the mischievous spirits that have been plaguing the Heavens. But some of them might not go easy, so Amaterasu has requested that gods and shinki old and new alike help ensure the spirits' peaceful departure.



Mukae-bi

Fires have been lit on hillsides and near cemeteries to lead the spirits back to their resting places and to protect them on their way, but angry ghosts and ayakashi are trying to quench the fires so they can attack weaker spirits. Keep the firewood stocked and the fires blazing high while you fight off the attacks.

Heavenly Exorcisms

It's time to bring any possessed household items to the Near Shore to ensure that the spirits are sent safely on their way. Some might go peacefully, while others might have to be purified by fire in order to set the spirits free. Hope you weren't too attached to that chair.

(Careful... spirits that manage to hide from the housecleaning can become permanent guests!)

Guarding the Gates

Hidden pathways into the underworld in caves throughout Japan are open from sunset to moonset on this night to allow the spirits who have temporarily left to return. Gods and shinki must watch over these pathways and ensure that no dangerous ayakashi take the opportunity to escape from the underworld before the moon sets.

After-party

After the moon sets, the denizens of the Heavens can finally kick back. Everyone is invited to a private hot spring on the Far Shore, where a midnight banquet spread is waiting in thanks for their hard work. Wash off any blight in the hot springs and enjoy the banquet before heading back home for a good night's sleep.

[Stare at the water as long as you want, Emizel. Sitting that close to the water is an invitation to get splashed!

Literally dropping out of the sky with a loud excited shout, clothes and all, Goten practically canon balls into the hot spring close to Emizel. Despite the demi-saiyan's tiny size, he is able to create quite a large wave to splash the area around him. But hey, if anyone was close to the hotsprings they were probably going to get in on their own anyway.

A moment later and the young shinki's head pops out of the water, a bit flushed from the temperature but laughing still as the water slowly settles down.]

[Oh geez-- that tidal wave!] --!!

[Instinctively he scurried further away from the pool's edge to avoid making contact with the splash. It only helped so much though, some of the water got in Emizel's hair and arms. Feeling the drops he immediately winced, expecting it to hurt.]

[Which...nothing seemed to happened. Or was that because it was only a few drops? He didn't want to find out.]

[The sudden movement of Emizel's scurrying does manage to catch Goten's attention. He blinks over at him, looking a bit confused by the distressed looking blond. If his height is anything to go by, Emizel just looks like a older kid which is a plus to Goten. The only other kid he knows in the Far Shore is Nanako.]

Are you okay?

I'm fine, everything's fine. [He was in the middle of wiping off the water. Can't be sure of the effects if it sinks in. He will at last be safer this way.]

I-in fact I already finished up. I better go back to the temple.

[...But he didn't even step inside.]

But you dont even look wet...

[Unless you count what bit Goten managed to get on him]

What's your temple? Are you a god or a shinki?

[New face means its time to overload on questions.]

[He's dry because he out of the water earlier. Obviously!!!]

Huh? Oh, I own Thanatos' for the time being. [The butterfly swarm and all. At least he's not threatening them with pesticides anymore.]

[Emizel inches closer back though. And here he thought he was the smallest one here.] Wait...you're not a god yourself are you?

Thanatoast? I've never heard of that god before.

[Well since Emizel doesn't want to join in the bathe, he climbs out onto the rocks. His clothes are weighed down by the water but he doesn't seem to mind too much. Congrats Emizel you got a good half foot on the demi-saiyan.]

Not-uh. I'm a shinki. Aymeric is my god. Uh, Forestseti...I think that's his god name.

[Goten shrugs before attempting to shake off the water similar to that of a dog.]

Aymeric?

[Why does that name sound familiar] --Oh, I think I met him earlier.

[Not that Emizel had much time to say anything else. He was cautiously dodging water again.]

[It didn't dry him off as much as he thought. Shaking his head once more, he looks over to Emizel.]

Aymeric is great! You should be friends with him. [Aymeric could always use more friends! Goten smiles.]

I'm Goten. Nice to meet you, Tanatoast!

[Geez kid how much water do you got??? Emizel knows that he's gotten pelleted by some droplets by now. Obviously he was going to die soon.]

You can just call me Emizel. [Perhaps that would be easier to remember. He's not used to going strictly by his god name yet.]

He seems like a pretty strong god. You must feel lucky. At least...that is what shinki look forward to right?

[He's got a shinki of his own, a laid back one at that. He should know.]

Emizel...Okay, got it! That's way eaiser to say then that other name! You shoulda just said that.

[And he's wandering closer, looking up at the blond god.]

He is! He's the best god I've ever had and I've had three so far. I bet you'll be a good god too.

I thought maybe my god name would be a bit more recognizable. [It's been here longer than he has.] But I guess not.

[But more importantly.]

--Three? How did you end up with three?!

[sonofson]

Not a lot of people use god names. I donno why but I think regular names are easier too.

[He blinks a bit the question. Is it that weird?]

'Cause they dissappeared.... I woke up and the temple was gone and so were they. Aymeric is the only one that has stayed with me for so long.

[He he hopes it stays that way]

Shinki gotta find a new god when their other one disappears or else they get put with a random god.

There had to be another Thanatos here before me. All I did was inherit his temple after all. [Well it's more than just that. But even still.]

...Oh. That must mean gods disappear quite often huh? [That's worrisome.]

Maybe. I don't remember another Thanatoast.

[Then again Goten doesn't know everybody.]

Uh, gods and shinki can disappear. It has happened a lot and no one really knows why.

[He frowns as he says it, eyes softening. You really don't know who will be there the next day or not. After his previous two gods, he really doesn't want to lose Aymeric or any of his friends]

Hey Emi, how long have you been here? Are you new?

[Considering last he heard, other worlds were involved less than a year ago. Going through three different gods like that is insane.]

[On the other hand, if he's missing things back home, the thought that this could be just a temporary thing isn't so bad.]

Sorta. It's been about two weeks now I think?

If you got questions or need help with anything you can ask me! I donno too much about god stuff but I'll do my best. I've been here a couple months so I know a lot. At least, I think so!

[Mostly on the shinki side of things. Goten is pretty modest but he does want to be helpful]

[Honestly, the only other shinki Emizel kind of knows is Botan and his own. He'll definitely make note of that if he needs help. Right now he should be focusing on the god side of things.]

Well, Aymeric's a god and you know him. What is he like?

[Goten blinks a bit at that. He could go on all day about how great he thinks Aymeric is]

Aymeric? Uh, he's really nice and he's strong too! I think he's one of the best gods around 'cause he cares a lot about his friends and the people that look up to him. He's also super modest...? I don't think he likes everyone knowing his a god, it's kinda weird.

[Huh... Where has he heard that one before? It may seem Emizel's intuition may have been right.]

...That does almost sound like someone I know.

You should come by sometime and meet him then. He makes really good breakfast's too, Emi!

That does sound kinda like fun. I wanna go.

[Goten lights up at the answer, he grins up at Emizel.]

Yeah! Whenever you want, me and Aymeric aren't going anywhere! I bet he'd like you over too. Maybe Maddragonra too. You gotta show me your place to. I wanna see!

[New god friends are exciting cause not only are they cool but they usually have interesting temples too!]

[Emizel's temple is a sight to behold. ...If you really like old ruins, flowers, and insects. But he really wouldn't mind more coming to visit! It gets a bit lonely just him and Viktor sometimes.]

You should come over! It ain't too bad...when you get used to it.

Yep! That's his name. He's a big white cat!

[Goten even tries to gesture roughly Mandragora's size.]

Okay! I will! When?

[He's so ready for this. Who cares about baths when there's cool temples to see!]
