19 | Peaceful Departure

What: Celebrating Obon
When: Evening August 10
Where: The Near Shore
Summary: Mortals may be partying, but there's lots of work for the denizens of the Far Shore to do.

It's the final day of Obon and spirits are being sent back to their homes -- both the ancestral spirits that have been welcomed home for the duration of the festival and the mischievous spirits that have been plaguing the Heavens. But some of them might not go easy, so Amaterasu has requested that gods and shinki old and new alike help ensure the spirits' peaceful departure.

Mukae-bi

Fires have been lit on hillsides and near cemeteries to lead the spirits back to their resting places and to protect them on their way, but angry ghosts and ayakashi are trying to quench the fires so they can attack weaker spirits. Keep the firewood stocked and the fires blazing high while you fight off the attacks.

Guarding the Gates

Hidden pathways into the underworld in caves throughout Japan are open from sunset to moonset on this night to allow the spirits who have temporarily left to return. Gods and shinki must watch over these pathways and ensure that no dangerous ayakashi take the opportunity to escape from the underworld before the moon sets.

After-party

After the moon sets, the denizens of the Heavens can finally kick back. Everyone is invited to a private hot spring on the Far Shore, where a midnight banquet spread is waiting in thanks for their hard work. Wash off any blight in the hot springs and enjoy the banquet before heading back home for a good night's sleep.

Uh, gods and shinki can disappear. It has happened a lot and no one really knows why.

[He frowns as he says it, eyes softening. You really don't know who will be there the next day or not. After his previous two gods, he really doesn't want to lose Aymeric or any of his friends]

Hey Emi, how long have you been here? Are you new?

[Considering last he heard, other worlds were involved less than a year ago. Going through three different gods like that is insane.]

[On the other hand, if he's missing things back home, the thought that this could be just a temporary thing isn't so bad.]

Sorta. It's been about two weeks now I think?

If you got questions or need help with anything you can ask me! I donno too much about god stuff but I'll do my best. I've been here a couple months so I know a lot. At least, I think so!

[Mostly on the shinki side of things. Goten is pretty modest but he does want to be helpful]

[Honestly, the only other shinki Emizel kind of knows is Botan and his own. He'll definitely make note of that if he needs help. Right now he should be focusing on the god side of things.]

Well, Aymeric's a god and you know him. What is he like?

[Goten blinks a bit at that. He could go on all day about how great he thinks Aymeric is]

Aymeric? Uh, he's really nice and he's strong too! I think he's one of the best gods around 'cause he cares a lot about his friends and the people that look up to him. He's also super modest...? I don't think he likes everyone knowing his a god, it's kinda weird.

[Huh... Where has he heard that one before? It may seem Emizel's intuition may have been right.]

...That does almost sound like someone I know.

You should come by sometime and meet him then. He makes really good breakfast's too, Emi!

[Emizel softens. ~~Did you srsly call him Emi though?~~]

[Goten lights up at the answer, he grins up at Emizel.]

Yeah! Whenever you want, me and Aymeric aren't going anywhere! I bet he'd like you over too. Maybe Maddragonra too. You gotta show me your place to. I wanna see!

[New god friends are exciting cause not only are they cool but they usually have interesting temples too!]

[Emizel's temple is a sight to behold. ...If you really like old ruins, flowers, and insects. But he really wouldn't mind more coming to visit! It gets a bit lonely just him and Viktor sometimes.]

You should come over! It ain't too bad...when you get used to it.

[Goten even tries to gesture roughly Mandragora's size.]

[He's so ready for this. Who cares about baths when there's cool temples to see!]

Oh. Uh, whenever you want to I guess. [Time is overrated!!]

[Well in that case, Goten perks practically standing on his tippy toes before he steps forward and tries to grab onto Emizel's hand or sleeve]

[...Goten, it's(if not almost) midnight.]

[Then again, his temple does has some kickass night skies. Emizel was a bit taken back.]

...I-if that's what you want.

'kay, let's go!

[He's so ready and eager!]

You know how to teleport right? Or you can tell me how to get there if you want.

I haven't tried teleporting with more than one person before... But I can tell you where it is.

It's easy to teleport....at least it looks like it!

[He really has no idea but he lets go of Emizel's hand so he can run around him to grab the back of his shirt/hoodie]

[Goten is already floating off the ground and gently tugging him up]

Ready...? [For what..? Not even aware that he did confirm for it, whatever it is.]

[Goten just laughs]

You said you haven't tried teleporting before so you gotta tell me where it is. I'll take us there, Emi!

[With that and no further warning, Goten is attempting to pick Emizel off the ground by the back of his shirt and high into the air]

[He could teleport himself! He's not sure how to bring Goten along with him.]

[However before long Emizel was pulled into the air without much trouble at all, besides the demon being startled anyway. The kid knew how to fly?!?!]

[....Although, if it's a fast travel Goten wanted, it gave Emizel an idea. He probably had enough energy to make it there.]

...P-put me down over there for a minute. I got somethin'. [Points to one of the higher, quieter points of the temple. Away from most of the party area, just in case.]

[He's already making his way in a random direction because someone is suppose to point him where to go but he slows after a moment, blinking as Emizel speaks up. Izumo did tell him it was rude to just grab people but he did ask this time.

But he listens to the request and floats over to the roof of the nearby temple. He sets Emizel down gently but keeps floating himself. Maybe he was scared of heights?]

What's up? I thought we were going to your place...

We are, but I thought of something that might make it easier.

[Also being held by his hood might've not been the most comfortable way to fly. But hey he's back on ground again...sorta. Now just making sure how well the roof is structured, he does not want to pay for damages later...]

Alright, this should work out. [What is Emizel up to exactly? It may have something to with that magical intricate circle underneath him. Afterwards he was covered in an almost tar-like substance as he changed shape into something well.... big]

There! [He crouched to hopped off the roof, miraculously staying afloat despite nothing there to support him. Now Emizel can lead the way!]

[Goten's mouth hangs agape as he stares up at him wide eyes in awe. He's speechless for a handful of seconds before he finally snaps out of it. Kicking off the rooftop, he zooms up to Emizel, nearly crashing into him in excitement]

Emi! Emi! You look.....SO COOL! What are you? How'd you do that? Can you show me? Wow!

[Goten does loops around him, taking in his appearance---was that a bone tail???]

[It's a bone tail!! He can't quite manifest wings like his dad, yet. Probably would need to unlock some other form to get those. Not that it really matters, Emizel could still fly without them.]

Hm, not sure if I can... [He had only found enough strength and potential to get this far. It's not so simple just to explain either. Also, pretty sure Goten is not a demon.] I can't use it for that longer either. It gets tiresome pretty quickly...

[Even time to make it to his temple though. If anything he's more concerned about being mistaken for an ayakashi, otherwise he would flying a bit lower. Juuust in case.]

[Can he touch it? He's going to touch it. Don't mind the poking and gentle tug on said tail because....just wow!!!

Grinning, Goten circles around him again, kicking his feet]

Then let's go! Let's go! Let's go! I don't want to wear you out, Emi! C'mon! I'll race you!
