Summary: There are too many teachers sick and the Far Shore residents need to help fill in!



For some reason or another, many teachers have gotten sick just as the new school year is starting! In a panic, the school is seeking out every substitute teacher they can find, which is still not enough, and so the gods have to step in as reinforcements. And the Heavens are insisting on Far Shore residents helping strictly because this sickness seems so darn suspicious.

So anyone who looks old enough is being asked to step in as a substitute teacher and anyone who looks young enough is being asked to blend in as a new student, all to help the school and find out what exactly is causing this mysterious illness plaguing only the teachers of this school. There are many subjects open to teach and all Far Shore residents are expected to act as if they properly belong in this school while conducting their investigation. That means you'll have to teach properly or attend classes, depending on which role you've taken on.

Some gods might even find it useful to try and get information out of students by possessing one of their own, therefore guaranteeing the trust of the others around them. It's all up to you how you choose to investigate!

Newcomers will find the following note in their pockets as they are transferred to the school:

I am sure you have many questions and concerns, but you have appeared at a very inconvenient time. Please attempt to help us, if you can, and we will reward you to the best of our abilities.

If you have any questions, you can seek out the counselor. Too many students underestimate what a good counselling session can do towards helping to alleviate their fears and uncertainties.

Classes

Being a big school, there are dozens of different subjects available. As teachers, you can practically teach anything you would like to, and as students you are facing a constant stream of completely different kinds of information. Maybe the school needs to tone it down a bit on how many different subjects they offer...

Hallways

The hallways are always a great place to mingle and get to know the other students in the school. You'll see all sorts in the hallways, ranging from the beautiful girls being followed by their fanboys all the way to the delinquents who are promptly making their way away from the classrooms for the rest of the day. Hopefully somebody around here will be able to give you a heads up as to what's going on.

Lunch

Lunchtime is the easiest time to gather gossip and information. Whether you are staying in the classroom with a bento or heading to the cafeteria to wrestle for some bread or spending your lunch in the faculty room with the rest of the not-sick teachers, you will find that both the students and the faculty are more prone to chatting during lunch. And a lot of them talk about a curse laid on the school because of the late principal...

Counselling

Surprisingly enough, there is a white-robed shinki in the counselling office of the school, and the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu can be found on her tunic as well as on the door to her small personal office. Oddly, all of the other students and faculty keep passing the door by, but the counselling shinki simply continues to smile gently all the same.

FINAL BOSS

Turns out there is something causing the illness in the teachers, and it's an exceedingly large ayakashi, one so large that no single god could possibly take it down. You'll have to all work together to weaken it enough for the rending to work on it.

The battle for the FINAL BOSS will be posted on the OOC date of July 17, all threads involving destroying him should go there when it is posted. All other events leading up to the FINAL BOSS battle should slowly build to figuring out that an ayakashi is at work.

[Yuuki's totally starstruck.

Classes were spent listening intently to the lessons and taking down notes, not at all concentrating on the task she was assigned. By the time she's in the hallways, she's got her books hugged to her chest, looking absolutely delighted.]

Aah, Elsa's school is great, but being in classes like this... It's so much fun!

[Nostalgic, even, although she can't really put her finger on why.

It might be a good time to remind her what she's here for.]

[Lunch]

[SO I GUESS THEY'RE ACTUALLY HERE TO INVESTIGATE OR SOMETHING, which is why Yuuki heads right over to the cafeteria, buys some bread, and hunkers down to nibble on it while she listens to a nearby group of girls chattering away. If she overhears something good, she's confident she can slip into the conversation herself, but until she's sure it's worth doing, she'll content herself with... well, lunch.

If you talk like that, you're going to be obvious. [What kid likes going to school? Most don't. Even though Nageki likes it, it's hard to find anyone that enthusiastic.]

Huh? Why would they? They keep ignoring me unless I talk to them.

[It's a little easier to catch their attention now, sure, but not that much.]

Did you find anything out?

Not really--nothing about the illness anyway. [He shrugs?] Have you?

[Ahaha, well.]

I haven't heard anything yet... But the lesson was interesting?

[She means that sincerely. She's incredibly athletic, yes, but she's always been interested in studying, even if there weren't a whole lot of opportunities for it as a... well. Shinki.

She's doing just super at this job.]

Ayumu's class I DO WHAT I WANT

[Ayumu's class is one he's actually somewhat competent at! Go figure, he's not entirely hopeless at this school thing.

But the class is difficult to concentrate on when his fellow students-- the real students-- are more interested in muttering to each other than doing any of the work. He's done his best to blend in like they asked, and considering his general lack of restraint in anything ever, he makes it an impressively long time before he starts any trouble.

But he's in the middle of discussing a particular kanji with Yuuki when the students behind them start to discuss, in no uncertain terms and without even bothering to whisper, all the inappropriate things they'd like to do to their substitute teacher. And that's the last straw.]

Yuuki-kun, would you hold this for a minute? [Handing her the brush, he stands up, like he's getting ready to go grab some more ink for them. --And then he spins around, socking one of the boys behind them right in the nose.]

You should be more polite. [He doesn't even bother walking around the desk. He just grabs the kid by his collar, yanking him out of his seat and drawing his fist back again.] That sort of talk is pretty despicable, you know?

[Oops, there he goes.

Well, not that Yuuki can really argue with him on it. She'd heard it only too well, herself, and had been rapidly running out of patience for the boys as well. So in a way, this just gives her an excuse to jump in too.]

Yaaamaaaato!

[Her voice is cheery and playful as she says his name, slowly getting to her feet with a smile.]

We can't just cause trouble for Miss Ayumu in her class! We'll get thrown out in the halls if we pick a fight now!

[The hallways sound good, actually. Because it is less trouble for Ayumu and more freedom to deal with these guys without an entire class watching.]

I GOTTA BE IC

[THERE HE GOES... and as hilarious as it would be if they could just beat people up while invisible, that is unfortunately not one of Yamato's powers. If nothing else, the boy's startled yell of pain has effectively attracted everyone's attention.

Not that Yamato cares about starting a scene (obviously), but Yuuki's right--he doesn't want to cause Ayumu any trouble. So he lowers his fist, looking thoughtfully at the kid's bloody face. (Is his nose broken? It might be broken.)]

Are you going to apologize to your teacher? [He asks, because it's only fair. All he gets in response is some panicked babbling and a "fuck you, crazy bastard!" So with a look at Yuuki, he hoists the kid out of his seat and unceremoniously tosses him over his shoulder. He probably could've done it even without cheating shinki/tsukumogami powers, since the boy isn't very big or heavy. Still, Yamato turns like it's no effort at all, and smiles at Yuuki.]

Yuuki-kun, could you get the door, please?

[...Sheeeeee should probably go chaperone this, huh.]

Yeah, sure!

[And she will hurry over to do so, giving an apologetic wave Ayumu's way as they make their exit.]

I know he's really gross, but take it easy on him, okay? He's not sturdy like we are. Besides, I think his nose is already broken.

[It doesn't even occur to Yamato, how arrogant it is to waltz right out of class with the blatant intention of beating someone up. He simply makes a face that can only be described as a pout, in response to her cautioning.]

What, already? My blood's not even boiling yet. [Yams, please.

But if he can't go all out, then he'll just have to think of something else. So he does the next best thing, which in this case happens to be... dumping the kid unceremoniously on the floor and stepping on his chest. Stay put, jerkface.]

If he apologizes, then it's fine, right? But I don't think he will unless we convince him.

[Yukine, trying very hard to keep a low profile (because he doesn't look near old enough to be in High School, fml) is actually kinda sulky over this fact.
So he's a little jealous when Yuuki comes out of class happily talking about it.]

Quit looking so happy. What student thinks school is fun?

[Waving hello!]

There's got to be some! I know I do. [Obviously.]

Are you attending classes, too?

[He scowls a little more. So jealous though.]

Geez- do I look like a High School student?!

[He'd be on the small side for even a Middle School second year (which is where he would be normally).
And realizing that he'd raised his voice a bit more than he'd meant to, he takes it down a notch. The point is for him to not draw attention this time, right. After glancing around at the students passively moving around them he asks,]

Have you found out anything yet?

[sleepingknight]

[She just stares at him blankly for a minute before pulling back her purple hair and exposing her pointed ears.]

Yukine... You think I look like a high school student?

[She's still kind of a fairy. But right, actual mission stuff:]

I haven't found anything out yet... Nobody really talks in class. I was going to the cafeteria to see if I could overhear anything there!

[Yukine looks at her ears with his mouth open for a moment, then scowls off to the side.]

... At least you can hide it. I can't hide how short I am.

[Shaking his head, he turns his attention back to her.]

Heh, yah, I suppose at least people shouldn't be talking in class. I'm sure you'll have better luck over lunch. I'll probably check in with you again later then, okay?

[Lunch]

[ Maybe it's a good thing people barely notice shinki, because Genos would have terrible time blending around otherwise. What with black-sclera eyes, and metal arms - which are very visible, because he had to cut the uniform sleeves off.

Then he notices a girl with... ] Elf-ears?

[ He blinks and decides to hunkers down next to her, figuring she's probably another Far Shore resident. Or a cosplayer. If it's the latter, she will simply not even register him talking to her. ] Making any progress on the investigation?

[sleepingknight]

[Looking up and--

Wow. This guy's gotta be from the far shore.

Don't mind her as she finishes chewing her bite of bread. It's only polite to do so before she speaks up:]

Fairy ears! And these girls [she jerks her head towards the group next to her] are talking about some students who just dropped on the spot?

Aren't elves types of fairies anyway? [ Might sound nitpicky, but it's just curiosity. He looks at the girls. ] Fainted just like that? I haven't heard that one yet.

But it probably should surprise me more, than it does. [ some of the readings from his scanners were weird. ]

Are they?

[She just kind of guessed because of the wings.]

Anyway, I haven't heard much else... What about you?

[ Neither elves nor fairies are his forte, but he's been reading mythologies and folk tales as part of his duty recently. ]

Some of the students looks.. weird. [ Well most of the students around are pretty lively and chatty, so he corrects himself. ] Not literally.

It's their heat signatures that look weird.

lunch

[ He's not very hungry, but the cafeteria seems like a good place to go to overhear any conversations relevant to Nagi's investigation. He takes one onigiri and a can of hot tea so he doesn't look completely out of place and sits down at a strategically placed table. If he actually went to school in his previous lifetime, he might know that what he's got is not much of a school lunch at all. (But it's food + drink, right? Lunch is served).

He opens the can and takes a sip. And then stops so he can listen to the conversations going on around him. This being in a crowd thing feels very odd, but at least no one can see him. For the most part. ]

[The one person who does look over when he sits down probably isn't much of a surprise. Her hair is long, the kind of length that would normally cover one's ears entirely, but yet there's two unmistakably pointed ears sticking out between the locks.

She won't talk just yet, though. Not while the students are chattering away...]

"Did you hear? Saki-chan isn't at school today, either..."

"Yeah! I heard she collapsed yesterday. It's sooo weird... they said it was like she just stopped caring about anything!"

"So, w-wait... does that mean that rumor about the ghost is real...?"

[cyberfly]

[ Ghost? Nagi's ears perk up at that. He doesn't believe in ghosts, of course. Even though he is undead and might be considered a ghost by some standards, but anyway... He does believe in ayakashi. And those are invisible to human eyes, easily mistakable for ghost activity. He leans in a little to listen better.

He glances at the girl across the table, staring for a moment. She's probably not a regular student, given that she has pointy ears. He doesn't remark on it yet though, too busy listening in to see if there's anything else. ]

"Are they really getting possessed...?"

"No way! Ghosts aren't real. They have to be sick!"

"Aaaaah, scary, scary!"

[The conversation tapers off to speculation of who would be next, and then teachers they wouldn't mind getting sick. Pursing her lips, Yuuki glances over to Nagi and nods away from the table, getting up out of her seat in the same motion.

They're hardly noticeable, but that doesn't mean they can't still be spotted or overheard. If they're going to talk, they should do it elsewhere.]

[ The reports sound pretty similar to the stuff he found at the infirmary. Listless, depressive states that affected a bunch of people at the same time. The diagnosis of 'ghost' is obviously pretty ridiculous. But the kids need something to blame, maybe.

He glances at the girl and she motions for him to follow. He gets up, taking the can of tea and onigiri with him. ]

I guess they sent you, too.

[ He says, when they get out of earshot. ]
