[OPEN] Blue Dragon goes to town
Who: Shin-ah and you!
What: Shin-ah exploring the Near Shore and experiencing massive technology shock
Where: The streets and a subway at The Near Shore.
When: May 11th
Warnings: Nothing right now.
[Shin-ah has done an awful lot of sticking close to his god ever since he arrived, and maybe because of that, he hasn't explored much. This seems like a problem, because there are all kinds of curious places and things that don't resemble anything he thinks he knows.
So today, he ventures out to The Near Shore to learn more about all of these new curiosities. As a tall guy in a skull mask, it's perhaps a good thing that most residents don't even really notice him.]
A) Smile: you're on camera!
[The residents aren't noticing him much, but the security cameras are. And as he walks into the view of one with a live display mounted to the wall, Shin-ah freezes and looks warily at the monitor.
Why is he on the wall.
He turns to walk closer—and the figure on the wall moves too! This is legitimately the most disturbing thing he's ever seen, and with his eyes, he's seen a lot, he's quite sure. Like a perfect reflection. Shin-ah squints at the wall, and suddenly shoots his left arm up. Up it goes too. Right leg out. Same with the wall. Shin-ah frowns deeply and shakes his head at the Shin-ah on the wall frowning deeply and shaking his head right back.
Right, this is war.
Shin-ah draws his sword, intent to put an end to this wicked sorcery...]
B) Subway Stowaway
[The ground had a cavernous hole in the middle of the paving. Shin-ah follows the steps down to a row of short shiny walls with three thick shiny prongs poking into each one. Beyond that is a massive chamber with people and columns and it's loud. And there's something coming, it's gigantic and going so fast and there's a single light shining from the front of it. It's full of people.
It slows and stops, and many people get off. Many different people then get on. Then it leaves again. What...just happened? It takes some fighting, but Shin-ah manages to get past the pronged monsters and joins the throngs of people at the platform, wanting a closer look at what's going on as another one approaches and stops at the station like the last one.
He didn't mean to get eaten by it.
But the crowd was tight, and Shin-ah found himself swept along with them as though trapped in a river current. The door shuts, and he panics a little—this is scary! It's loud, it's packed, he doesn't know what it is or where it's going. He looks around the crowd with an expression of clear distress.
Help?]

B
He's so quick, even through the crowds, that Shin-ah might not notice his presence until it's so close that it almost disappears. He's good at navigating crowds, and he's seen this underground bus before! So, here, he steps up from behind his dragon brother and places a comforting hand on his back.]
I didn't expect to see you here, Shin-ah. [Nevermind that he tracked him down on purpose. He holds out his free hand for Shin-ah to take, so that when this subway starts up he doesn't startle and fall over.] Is everything alright?
no subject
It's just as well that he isn't one for many words, because there probably really aren't any for the kind of relief it is to hear that voice, and then realize that indeed, Green felt very close.
Never mind that hand. Shin-ah goes for a full-body hug around Jae-ha's middle and just. Clings.
Save him.]
no subject
Ah, Shin-ah, hello. [So close.] You wandered on here by accident?
no subject
And the fact that Jae-Ha doesn't seem alarmed is calming him rather quickly. He trusts Jae-Ha's sense of danger, and so after another few seconds, comes out of that two-armed bear hug.]
What is this?
no subject
[Hmmm. Well, good enough. Even with Shin-ah releasing him from his bear hug, Jae-Ha keeps one hand on him at all times to make sure he's steady as they move.] As it so happens, this is going in the perfect direction. Are you free to come with me and meet someone, Shin-ah?
no subject
It feels like a stupid question; this is clearly something he should know, right? Maybe he can find out on his own somehow. In the meantime, he nods to Jae-Ha's question. He'd only been exploring, and had no clear schedule or goals other than to learn more about the area. He can go meet someone important.]
no subject
As of now, Jae-Ha can only assume Shin-ah has already discovered the wonder of buses. Pulling his phone out, he sends a message to Hazel (he types very slowly) that says "Have the snacks ready."]
Great. It won't be a long journey, but the few stops in between here and there can get a little busy, so stay close to me and don't let the crowds sweep you away. [But, with that aside...]
How have you been, Shin-ah? You know, it's been so long since we've met, and it feels like even longer since we've known each other. Can you believe I haven't even seen your face...? [He's reaching for that mask, come here.]
no subject
Shin-ah latches on to that last bit of Jae-Ha's dialogue and the reach for his mask. A quick shake of the head, and Shin-ah covers his still masked face with his hands, holding it firmly on his face.
No lookie.]
no subject
[Jae-Ha tries to coax him out of his mask like this, thankfully not trying to yank him out of it or anything, but desperately hovering his hands in front of it like he might change his mind. Fortunately for Shin-ah, the train comes to a stop just before he can nudge himself closer, and the small jolt of the stop is enough to remind him that they're headed somewhere.
Ahh... he'll try later. For now, he takes Shin-ah's shoulders and leads him off with the crowd.]
Well, you're shy, I can understand that. Come on, now, we're heading this way. It won't be far until the temple I stay at, okay?
no subject
Fortunately, he seems to relent and instead focus back on the task of heading towards the person Jae-Ha wants him to meet. He nods once in understanding and moves along to Jae-Ha's direction.]
Who are we meeting?
[Shin-ah's guess is Jae-Ha's god, based on identifying the destination as the temple where he stays. He can't assume that, though. It might be another shinki that lives there, or a guest that's staying over.]
no subject
[He could explain it in greater detail, but somehow, unlike with literally everyone else, he feels shy explaining this to the other dragons. Maybe it's their bond... Well. It's fine just like this, with how much they have to deal with. Shin-ah just needs to know he's his god. So, he leads him over to one of the shrines, helping him to cross traffic in a safe way.]
His name is Hazel. I've told him a bit about you! As much as I know, that is...
no subject
Hazel.
[A simplistic repetition, but Shin-ah has found this a good way to both confirm a name and commit it to memory.]
no subject
[Shin-ah is so cute... Ahh, he really wants to try for his mask again. But definitely not in the middle of the street, and probably not as they arrive at the shrine, either. He guides him closer to the small thing, one of his hands tapping at his chin as he thinks.]
He's been taking very good care of me. I assume Zeno has been doing the same for you?
no subject
Shin-ah follows after Jae-Ha like a puppy. It's good to be off the underground bus. It's good to be near someone he knows and can trust. He nods once to the question.]
Zeno is a good god...
[And Shin-ah can't voice it, but he's glad to hear that Jae-Ha feels the same way about Hazel. He might have gotten a bit fussy with the god had he heard otherwise. Taking care of Jae-Ha is important.]
no subject
[To remember everything while they're like this. He helps Shin-ah when they teleport to the far shore, and then gestures at the grand western building once it's in front of them. There's also a cute little garden to the side with some dragon decorations, like a dragon statue.] This is our temple.
no subject
He travels with Jae-Ha to what he can only presume is Hazel's temple. Randomly, he marvels at how different all of these temples can look. He pays particular attention to the dragon decorations off to the side in the garden. Does Hazel like dragons, then? That's good.
With so much to take in, and already being such a quiet person, no verbal reply is forthcoming, but he's very much present and alert. Both to the surroundings and to Jae-Ha's cues.]
no subject
[Shin-ah is certainly welcome to be as quiet as usual. Jae-Ha leads him up the porch and to the doorway, stepping inside and urging his dragon bro along as he calls out.]
Hazel! Shin-ah is here. [He's sure he's near the kitchen, after that text from earlier, so he'll shut the front door and glance over there. But first—]
Shin-ah, surely there's no reason to wear that mask inside. Would you like me to hang it somewhere for you? Come here... [Hover hands by his mask COME HERE SHIN-AH LET HIM SEE THOSE EYES.]
no subject
Again!!!
Shin-ah skitters quickly away to the opposite side of the entrance, where he crouches facing the wall with his hands up at the edges of the mask to hold it protectively in place.
No lookie.]
no subject
Hazel is indeed in the kitchen, doing whatever he's doing to get the snacks ready, but he puts that aside to come out and see... this? Well then.
Things he expected about this Shin-ah kid, from Jae-Ha's descriptions:
1. an actual child
2. not that big mask-fuzz combo
3. not Jae-Ha scaring him into a corner
so this is all very strange to walk into, even in his own house. Um...]
Uh... welcome to the house? Jae-Ha, what're ya doin' to the boy?
no subject
[Ah, but Hazel enters, and Shin-ah is once again spared. Jae-Ha blinks, standing up straight again and turning to face Hazel with a wide smile. Haha... He can explain.]
I was trying to get him to take off his mask, but it seems he's too shy. Shin-ah, this is Hazel! Come say hello. [He gestures at Shin-ah now, come on, he'll behave, he's behaving... Go greet Hazel!!]
no subject
He feels a bit awkward from having been caught cowering in the corner, but he rises back to his feet and calmly approaches to a conversational distance and lowers his head respectfully.]
Shin-ah... it's nice to meet you, Hazel.
no subject
The pleasure's mine, kid. You're taller than I thought you'd be. [sigh, he's so small,] I got us some snacks if you're hungry.
no subject
He expects Shin-ah to be hungry, though, so he looks over to him at the suggestion.]
no subject
Shin-ah decides then and there that he likes Hazel. He nods quickly to the suggestion, though he's also paying attention to Jae-Ha's reactions. Jae-Ha is the one who knows Hazel, so watching his nonverbals will make it a little easier to gauge any uncertain situations, like whether it really is okay to accept an offer for snacks. This is unfamiliar territory, after all.
But it seems all is well, so he's just waiting to see where Hazel leads them.]
no subject
Jae-Ha said you'd be lookin' for somethin' to munch on, so I went 'round to the store and got a couple of those platter things with the cheese and crackers. You're welcome to however much ya want, we've got plenty besides—and I reckon we can take it to the other room and have a seat. Don't wander off anywhere, it's a big house.
[Or: they are doing this, and since Hazel is Small and they are Not, everyone gets to help him carry cheese platters. Jae-Ha does, at least; Hazel is already handing him the bigger plate. Take this, thank you.]
