All New Gods Conclave

Who: All new gods. Every single one, including new arrivals. Attendance is mandatory.*
What: An all new-god's meeting, featuring one important announcement.
When: May 17th, 11 a.m.
Where: The Meeting Hall on the Far Shore.

[*OOC: You do not have to tag in to show your attendance. However all the gods are brought to the meeting. This is to make sure that the information is IC-ly shared fairly with all the god characters.]

---Invitation--
Today, every single new god finds one of Amaterasu's messengers at their front door in the morning. No matter your condition from the banquet the night before, the messenger insists on handing their message to the god personally and directly. Gods not at home will find themselves found anyway, although it's now a bit later in the morning. The new shinki are absolutely forbidden to take the message for the god.

The message, written simply in black ink, reads:

"You are invited to attend a conclave of the gods, May 17th at 11 a.m. at the Meeting Hall.
The agenda comprises of one item: to give a meaningful and informational announcement in regards to your shinki. As this information has literal life-and-death consequences for the shinki, we expect your attendance.
You will be brought to the Meeting Hall promptly at 11."

At the bottom is an official-looking stamp of Amaterasu's name in red ink, and beside that a stamp of Suijin's name.

The messenger will make sure that the god understands the message, and if they don't they should ask one of the other new gods, because they aren't allowed to look at the message either. Sorry, they can't answer any questions.

--Conclave--
Promptly at 11, you are teleported to the Meeting Hall, to the inner room where the gods meet. It is dark, but when you blink your perspective shifts, and you find yourself in the midst of bars of light, in a bar of light yourself.*

A voice speaks, but you cannot quite tell if it is even male or female, let alone any other distinguishing feature about it.

"We will bring this meeting to order.
You will at once notice that you are completely anonymous here. Unless you say something to give yourself away, no one will be able to discern who you are. However, I request that you remain silent, as what you are here for is an announcement. To show that this is all done in good will, I shall reveal myself."

The golden light around the person speaking diffuses, and the speaker is revealed. In an ornate kimono she stands with her hands folded in front of her, a wide-brimmed veiled hat upon her head obscuring her face. Despite the veil you can see that her face is painted as white as her hands. Her face seems to have a completely neutral expression as her bright red lips part to speak again:

"I am the Mizu no Kami, Suijin, and today I speak for heaven.
"It has come to our attention that, as you new gods were almost all formerly human, you have some unique challenges upon you in this situation you have been thrust into. One of these challenges has to do with the God's Greatest Secret.

"The instinct that you should be following to not divulge anything of a shinki's past to them seems to be weakened in the face of human curiosity and the fact that some of you knew your shinki in life. Therefore we come before you today in order to announce to you in no uncertain terms: the way of this world is that if you reveal even the slightest piece of your shinki's past to them, they will fall.

"As most of you have already realized, the new shinki are quite different in many regards, including their name. However, the ability for them to fall is the same. A shinki's past becomes negative karma that devours them and immediately turns them into an ayakashi. There is no saving the shinki from it- no reversal, no recovery. The formerly-shinki ayakashi must be killed. Recently there was an incident of a new shinki falling, and the details of that incident are on your BBS, posted the morning of May 8th.

"In regards to the memories that some shinki have reported recovering on their own, they are still an anomaly. However, as was unfortunately proven, it remains certain that speaking to a shinki of their past will still cause them to fall.

"Telling a human to 'not think of something' will at once make them think of it, and therefore a desire to wonder about the past is very contagious among shinki. It will be up to you to curb your shinki's curiosity away from the danger. We implore you to be cautious, and for gods alone to keep the God's Greatest Secret.

"This concludes my announcement in regards to the God's Greatest Secret."

For a moment she pauses, dark eyes looking to the side for a moment.

"Although it was not on the agenda, I do have one further announcement. The heavens have been conducting our own investigation into how you all have come to be here. We would share this piece of information we have found with you: Whomever is doing this is not in Japan.

"This concludes the meeting of the gods. You are dismissed."

--Afterwards--
With the meeting concluded, you exit the dark room and return to the Meeting Hall.

[OOC: Feel free to use this post for discussion and mingling!]

[Schuldig nods first.]

Exactly my point.

[As both a European before coming here and a supposed Norse god after, he can't believe that had to be said.]

It explains why all of these people scrambling for answers didn't find anything, though, if they've been concentrating their efforts in Japan alone.

[On one hand, Shun can at least see the logic in wanting to get their home turf out of the way. On the other, if they did it at the cost of not checking anywhere else yet, it's really not any kind of advantage for them.

Giving a dismissive hiss through his teeth, Shun glances back towards the door of the room they gathered in.]

They should be using what resources they have, anyway. All of us here want answers just as much as they do, and yet they're not bothering to tap into that extra search power. If they'd done that much, they could've covered more than just Japan in this time. But with all the incompetence shown here, that's to be expected. [He respects some of the individual older gods well enough, but as a group they're still incompetent even if they do have to deal with a lot.]

Well, the way I see it... no one's stopping you from starting up your own search party, right?

[Completely outside of the elder gods' knowledge or permission, in fact.]

You're right - there's a lot of extra bodies doing not much of anything. You could always lead the cause yourself.

[Anything to get more Gods & Shinki to stop answering as many prayers and distract them with busy work.]

[While Shun couldn't really give a damn about any kind of authority, he still takes no more than a moment to shake his head at that suggestion. It's a fanciful, ideal solution, but he knows more than many that it would be a waste of time.]

Whoever's doing this leaves no trace and nothing but a sign that might be intended to throw us off the real scent anyway. I want answers as much as anyone, but they have to start here, because a search party under me right now would have no idea what they were looking for or where to start, except for a mask only left where they want them to be left.

[In other words, before splinter search parties can start they need more information on what the old gods are using to rule out certain places.]

You don't think they're just brunt forcing their way through a literal canvassing of the country? It looks like amateur hour to me and that's how amateurs start.

[Why else would they start in their own backyard? It's a theory, sure, that sometimes the culprits are right under the nose of the pursuers, but it's still not common. These people could have an Alcatraz Island hideout in the middle of a bay somewhere and may not get found.]

So. I threw out an idea. You say you want to support their efforts, but they don't want your support. Plan B?
revolutionfalcon: (declaration of intent)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2016-12-05 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
So you call it amateur hour and then expect me to do the same thing? They might be doing that, but if there's a technique they're using otherwise then assuming it's only brute force means we'll just be wasting our time.

[Shun doesn't sound particularly impressed with the proposal or the way it's put, largely because his own rash assumptions have almost always turned out to be wrong and he's not going to base organising something that prominent on another one.]

Plan B is continue gathering information before making a move. Some of the old gods are willing to share information, so we use that and make sure we know what the hell we're doing before we try adding our own force to the mission.

[He shrugs.]

Amateur hour by starting in their backyard and not drawing on the local talent. That's all.

[He casts a wide glance at all of the other gods.]

Who knows what kinds of powers the many assembled here have, let alone when combined with their shinki. Imagine getting all of them focusing on the same target.

[But hey if he wants to go with Plan B, then that's fine too.]

Plan B sounds like it'll take a supremely long amount of time to pry their jaws open for any more information at the rate they're going. But hey, maybe I'll get proven wrong.

[He doesn't sound like it's ever happened to him yet.]

[At that, Shun gives an outright derisive hiss.]

"Imagine" is right. We're all from different worlds with completely different interests and in different situations with our gods and shinki. The only thing that even has a chance of uniting us all is a common enemy out in the open, and even then there's people who'll put their own interests above anyone else's because they couldn't give a damn about anyone not themselves.

[The sharp, bitter note in his tone as he finishes up makes it abundantly clear how he feels about those kinds of people, but even if he considers unity and alliance important, he's also realistic about it. It would be a literal miracle to get everyone here focused on one target.

That tone Schuldig takes on the remark about getting proven wrong serves as a definite pointer to Shun that this isn't the kind of person he'd particularly want to be working with regardless, and with a sharp, irritated breath out, he starts scanning the room for the next person to ask about events.]

Better that than go in a pack of half-informed idiots and make things worse. But if it's such a good plan to you, I suggest you do it yourself.

[personal profile] volksdaemon 2016-12-11 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[One nice thing about being a telepath who's still trying - occasionally - to keep himself on the down low is that he can sense when a conversation is at its end. For one thing, he knows that with a fair bit of effort, he could try to seriously direct people's attention by force. For another, he imagines that taunting a few gods who would love to get their hands around his neck might be plenty incentive to track him down and end up exploring the areas anyway, flushing out the target in time.]

I didn't say it was a perfect plan - it could certainly use some work like you've pointed out.

[But he gestures over his shoulder anyway.]

I'll go see if any more half-informed idiots are interested.

[He laughs good-naturedly at that, since he knows he's not making fun of either of them but rather a bunch of other gods he doesn't care a whiff about. He still turns to walk away.]

Later~
revolutionfalcon: (you have five seconds)

[personal profile] revolutionfalcon 2016-12-12 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[The only answer he gets to the remark on the plan is a brief "tch" sort of sound - "some work" is an understatement, but he'd rather not continue the conversation in this case. And unsurprisingly, given how serious Shun has been this entire exchange, however lighthearted that second remark was, it doesn't get a laugh or even so much as a change of expression. It does, however, get a half-nod of acknowledgement as Shun continues scanning the room at large when he's not focusing his attention on the other.

At least this guy can take a hint, and Shun eyes him as he turns away, since it's force of habit not to let anyone he doesn't know well out of his sight until they're a good few metres away. Especially since while Shun doesn't see himself seeking out this guy in any way in future, it doesn't appear he's been particularly put off by Shun's attitude, either, which would've made things much easier on that front.]
