Getting Yurick to agree to some training was surprisingly easy. Great news because now he could sign up for some serious training with Lightning. But first thing’s first is seeing a little bit of what Yurick can do.

He’s never fought against a mage in this sense before. It should be pretty interesting and fun.

As for the temple when Yurick arrives he’ll find the temple is a large beach house sitting on the shore. It’s littered with herbs and flowers such as lavender, chamomile and of course a ton of baldr’s brow.

Sora will be somewhere in the back if Yurick wanders around long enough to find him there.

Something about the temple puts Yurick at ease, the sound of the waves and the scent of salt water calming his soul. He takes his time exploring since they didn't set an exact time for meeting, sniffing some of the herbs, trying to see if anything seems familiar.

When he makes his way around the back, he spots that familiar head of impossibly spiky hair. "Ah... Sora? I'm sorry to keep you waiting, I was curious about your herbs."

Sora looks over his shoulder to see Yurick and gives him a grin. He doesn't mind the dropping in, Sora had just being playing with his dream eater for most of the afternoon anyway. The pudgy animal boofs happily and scampers across the shoreline.

"Hey! Not a problem. I know they're kind of all over the place. I'm still learning what each one is."

Yurick stares at the dream eater as it frolics. He's never seen such an odd, colorful animal before. It looks more like a child's stuffed toy than a living creature.

"Sora, what is that? Is that the bear you warned me about? It seems harmless, just... bizarre."

"Huh?" Sora looks over to where Yurick is referring to before he bursts out laughing.

Bear? Cat? Dog? Who knows. A weird mash up of all three is probably the most accurate desciption.

"No he's not the bear I was talking about. That's Wan, my dream eater. He is totally harmless. He's from my home worlds."

Sora lets out a small whistle and the animal comes running back up to him and Sora scoops him up in his arms.

"A... dream eater?" But how can a creature eat dreams? At least Satan eats much more mundane food. "He looks friendly, I suppose."

Yurick keeps his distance, tentatively offering a small wave to the creature. "Ah... hello, Wan."

Sora gives Yurick a warm grin and waves him to come closer. In his arms Wan is wiggling about and his tail is wagging like mad. Sora then gives him an affectionate squeeze and the pet relaxes into mellow jello.

"You can pet him if you want this doofus likes everybody."

Which is true. He hasn't found a person or thing Wanwan hasn't warmed up to immediately yet.

Hesitantly, Yurick moves closer, reaching out his hand until his fingers slide over Wan's head. The dream eater is softer than he expected and warm. Thankfully Wan's not trying to eat him, so the mage supposes it's okay to give the creature a gentle scratch between his ears.

"He does resemble a stuffed doll that a child would hug at bedtime."

"A teddy bear?" Sora corrects happily.

In response to the petting Wan wiggles in glee and lets out a bark that might also sound like a cat meow.

"I guess he does look like that. A lot of my other dream eaters look 'cooler' I guess."

But Wan is his favorite. He then puts the dream eater back on the ground and Wan scampers around Yurick's feet happily.

"You need to do any warming up before we get started?"

"What is it with you and bears...," Yurick mutters, shaking his head. He leans down to pet Wan some more, scratching the back of the Meow Wow's neck and all the way along his spine to just above his tail. Cats seem to enjoy that, so maybe Wan will like it too? "And you have others that look different from this one? I'd like to see them sometime."

He's not in any hurry to start training, mainly because he's worried he'll embarrass himself. "Um, I... I suppose walking over here helped, but I'm not sure what else I can do to warm up."

Sora laughs at the bears comment and gestures to a pathway down the beach.

"My temple is connected to Artemis' temple. It's just over there. Sometimes his animals wander out here. The bears mostly. Sometimes deer. That's why I mention the bears."

He then shrugs a little. "A bunch of others. But only Wan showed up here with me. Maybe someday the other ones will show up.

Sora then folds his arms behind his head and nods. "And that's fine then! We can start whenever."

"Maybe Wan should go inside, then. My magic won't hurt my allies, but I don't want him to be afraid when I start casting fire spells." He gives the dream eater one last gentle scratch before straightening.

Sora really is slight and small, he's noticing, even more so than Yurick himself. Still, Yurick gets the feeling he'll be outmatched in physical combat by the tiny god.

Nodding Sora whistles again and when the dream eater prances over to him he toes the pet with his foot. "Go inside or go see Roxas, we'll play later."

And with that the pet scampers off in the direction of Artemis' temple instead of this own temple. Probably off to find Roxas' dogs.

He then shoots a grin at Yurick and summons his keyblade. The weapon blinks into his grip with a flash and chime.

"No actual sparring until you've got your own weapons but I use my keyblade to aim most of my offensive spells. But let's try those fire ones first!"

And with that Sora casts Aeroga on himself to create a protective barrier.

The appearance of the odd weapon makes Yurick jump. It's a giant key... is this the representation of Sora's godly powers? He'll have to ask later, he needs to start channeling mana for a spell. How secure is that barrier around Sora? Better to start with a Flare spell rather than going full force with Prominence or Meteor.

Yurick begins to pull mana and focus it, his power making him float a foot or so off the ground. Wisps of warm-colored energy drift around him. After about ten seconds, he lifts his hands over his head, the mana gathering into a fireball that he flings at Sora. The spell bursts against the Aeroga but spreads into a broad burning circle centered on him.

Sora gets that a lot. The strange looks and the startled expressions when he summons his weapon. It's a perfectly normal powerful weapon to him so he's not sure why everyone always looks at him funny...

But he's got no time to fret about that as Yurick begins to cast. With a grin he moves into his natural battle stance. He's pretty impressed when Yurick starts floating and can feel the energy coming off him.

He braces and as the spell hits Sora brings an arm up to his eyes. He takes a bit of damage through the barrier but most of it is deflected.

"Great! Do it again! As hard as you can!"

Any power that's deflected dissipates harmlessly against Yurick, the mana recognizing him as its caster and not a target. He can tell he's hurt Sora a bit and hesitates, knowing that a stronger spell will cause far more harm even with the barrier.

"I can't! My stronger spells are meant to break defense, even magical barriers!"

But there's something he can do instead. As he gathers power for another spell, he commands the mana to recognize Sora as an ally. The fireball he unleashes is much larger, but it doesn't inflict more than a surge of warmth and a momentary shimmering over the Aeroga spell. The magic circle at Sora's feet is also much bigger, but more surprising might be the flames that outline the keyblade, imbuing it with the properties of fire.

Yurick's magic definitely is strong and pretty unique. Sora hasn't seen anything like it before. He must have been a very powerful mage when he was alive. Donald would love to chat with him, Sora bets.

He wants to tell Yurick that he can take a pretty bad beating and that he's not afraid but Sora then notices Yurick's next magic. He's suddenly warm and surrounded by hot fire magic and Sora yelps when he looks down at his blade.

"Whoa! Yurick...!" He lifts the blade and gently swings it as if testing a new weapon. "What did you do?"

Though he's limited to the single element, no one could match Yurick's sheer power when it came to fire. It's a shame he doesn't recall the extent of his prowess, though forgetting how he acquired it might be something of a mercy for him.

He almost smiles at Sora's surprise, watching the young god swing the blazing keyblade. "My spells won't harm my allies, but rather imbue the power of fire to their weapons. As long as you stand in the circle or for a minute or so after you leave it, you carry some of my flames on your blade."

"That's so awesome!" Sora says ecstatically as he practically beams back at Yurick.

He swings his weapon again in a way to mimic actual combat. The dancing flames swing and and swish with his motions.

Sora's impressed, really impressed. "Next time me and my shinki go ayakashi hunting, you better tag along!"

What there is of Yurick's smile fades at that. Arikado is so determined to protect him from harm, Yurick feels useless. He only wants to fulfill the purpose of a shinki, but as long as Arikado refuses to wield him he's limited to a few spells that can't kill ayakashi.

"... you'd have to ask Arikado-sama. Without him, there's only so much I can do."

Sora's eyes widen slightly and he looks a bit surprised.

"Ohh, well you did just buff my weapon just now, so I was thinking you could tag along and do just that! I mean... If you could buff my shinki too that would be really, really cool. You're really strong, Yurick."

Because indeed his shinki is a sword. Add Yurick's fire mage buffs? Too cool! He thinks they'd all make a great team.
