What: Chakra Control Crash Course and Bright Lights
When: June 01- 02
Where: Around the Near Shore, Ixtab's temple
Warnings: None, but will update if something comes along.
✖✖ ( Open ) Near Shore, Afternoon, June 01
[It's somewhat past noon. He's found himself in the Near Shore, by some (relatively) quiet and unbusy... what? shopping center? It isn't as wretchedly hot as it would soon get but that didn't mean Neji was enjoying this humid summer heat just because it could be worse. That sort of mindset, if at least a tiny bit helpful, was something foreign to him. Now, he wears light clothes- he tends to always do- but even the long, loose material of his robe doesn't really help at keeping the small sting of the sun's rays off him.
Thankfully there's a fountain nearby and there are no loud, annoying children playing near it. Neji thinks, hey, that must be a better way to cool off than whatever damned idea the powers at play at the Far Shore had. With a sigh (gods, does he ever look anything less than bitchy?) he sits by it and leans over ever so slightly to dip a hand in. Yes. That's it. It's not all that exciting. Except his fingers feel and act like they touch a cool desk rather than sink into the water, and his palm suspiciously follows suit. Which is, admittedly, a little exciting and Neji gets to his feet with a start--] What--?! [Hope you weren't near that-- and just like that, nothing about this is normal, no.]
✖✖ ( Closed ) Far Shore, Ixtab's Temple, June 01
[Obviously he wasn't going to continue to make an ass out of himself in public.
Ixtab's temple was a welcome sight the way a set of new pencils was a welcome sight to a kid with an itch to learn to draw. He's far too... himself to be eager but damned if he wasn't curious and damned if his own temple (his goddess' own temple, their own temple) wasn't one of the better places to get this science experiment out of his system. For one, it's quiet, and that's always a blessing when one is trying very hard to learn something they don't know. For two, it's a desolate place. Yuri-sama might be company or she might not be-- she was often, if ever, the only other one. People don't really like to find themselves surrounded by nooses and that's their loss, Neji thinks as he kneels at the edge of the water. The temple's worth knowing. Anyway.
He concentrates first on his breathing- that's easy to do. It controls all of him and he controls his expectations and he's only here to test. He leans forward, shakes his hand dry when it comes back wet after he stroked the water under it. Okay. Fair. But not what had happened before.
Not five seconds later, he's at it again, like some big cat dipping a paw in the pond to fetch the fish. The surface of the water ripples this time just like before, but it's solid again. The water is, Neji thinks, because that's how it feels and how it's acting. His right hand lays straight over the surface and doesn't sink. He brings it back to rest on his lap, dry.
Then tries again.
And a minute later, the boy's got both hands on the water, not in it.
...Okay, but what if he puts some weight on them?]
✖✖ ( Open ) Near Shore, Evening, June 02
[Near where the Black Parade had happened, the living were still wary of continuing with their everyday life. It was understandable, and though Neji wished they'd quit with whispering dangers to one another that didn't exist anymore he knew there was little to do about that. He's standing at an intersection, maybe, wondering about remains or (despite himself) searching for some animated ones left to dispose when those curious lights first flicker playfully ahead of him.
His knee-jerk reaction is to cry 'Ayakashi'. But they're entirely the wrong-- structure. That didn't by any means make them 'cute' when they chased one another around like kittens pouncing on their own tails in boredom. That just... gave him more of a reason to stay away from the creatures? So Neji made a note of them but turned away. Because it made sense, y'know, to wary of the unknown and uh
Would somebody please explain to him why he hasn't been able to shake the trio of lights that's been on his heels ever since? Somebody?
You, in particular. Whoever the hell it happened to be-- congrats.] Are these yours? [Asks the guy on the phone lines above the street, like he's searching for a pet's misplaced owner.]
✖✖ ( Open ) Near Shore, Night, June 02
[The heat of the day isn't unbearable. Nights are simply more comfortable.
For the second night, there are fireworks adorning the sky overhead and Neji can't say he's bothered. Well, he is, but it's because he doesn't know the reason behind them (didn't the Near Shore just end a celebration?).
What kind of state did these people live in that their peace had to disrupted by noise just to make it a little more interesting?
He'll be browsing shops in these hours, wandering into electronics stores if he finds them open or else just looking into windows like this is the only way he'll get some semblance of mental stimulation for the day. So in regards to boredom-- Near Shore residents aren't the only ones suffering.]

Her fingers curl against her thighs, eyebrows raising in surprise at the sudden--to her--declaration. Her gaze slides to the water and then back to him, skeptical]
What makes you think that? [She's fairly sure there's no way she actually could, and she's not particularly keen on toppling headfirst into her pool for this doomed experiment.] Just because it's not a shinki-specific ability doesn't mean everyone can do it. [And then, because she can already feel a looming disappointment or disapproval already, Yuri resigns herself a little with a:] But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try...

and it kind of makes him suffer that Yuri can't see something so plain. She's not believing any of this, and he's practically convinced of it. The defeat in her tone spurs him to move. He stands, sighs, and waits for a count to four before he takes a step forward.
Onto the water. The chakra does the job of keeping him from sinking, the confidence keeps him steady through the ripples he'd caused under him. Well-- so this is a Thing now. He about-turns to face Yuri once more.] You only have to concentrate on it.
["Only", he says, and isn't sure he's doing so anymore. It's easy, now. He extends a hand--] Try it with me. [An offer, not an order, but Yuri was at least curious. He knew so. So it's a stepping stone, his focus shifting from himself (he's got the hang of the basics, thanks) to her. The chakra bleeds forward, but what the hell does he know, he thinks it's just to brace himself from the incoming disturbance that is another body on the water.]

She leans back a little, startled when he stands, and she opens her mouth to instinctively protest as he walks right out on the water. And, you know, stays on the surface. She had been half-joking when she'd suggested walking on water before, she hadn't expected him to take it to heart or anything.
It's a little unfair, in a way, that he could read her well enough to know she'd be too curious not to. Then again, Yuri's fatal flaw of curiosity wasn't really a secret. So she stands and because she trusts Neji, there's no hesitation to grabbing his hand. Her gaze goes skeptically to the water again, though she's not sure where her concentration should be. Should she try to pretend to be light? Or for the water tension to be great enough to hold her? She tries to think of the water as being like glass, like it had appeared to her watching Neji.
The first step has her wincing, but, shockingly, she doesn't fall through, the water seeming solid beneath her. Well, the rippling aside that has her balance wavering slightly.
Her warning that it wasn't her doing it should've been that her surprise and her break in concentration hadn't caused the water to go back to its natural state, but she's too pleasantly surprised to worry about that. Yuri looks from the water to Neji, eyes wide as her hand squeezes lightly at his. Though Yuri isn't naturally inclined to showing a lot of emotion, the expression on her face is on of barely-concealed wonder. 'Am I really doing that?' She seems to be asking. Does she even dare to hope??
(I mean, she shouldn't, but hey. She'll learn.)]

It's why he doesn't admonish her break in concentration. She's a goddess, and if such an ability is as simple as Neji's assumed it is, then it's no wonder she shouldn't put in as much initial effort. It's fair. For all her bumbling about, she did have her grace.
He can't help the way his head is slightly lowered and the way his gaze keeps returning to their feet under them-- it's not worry (what's the worse that can happen?), but it is enough attention to detail that means Yuri gets to enjoy this a moment longer. She felt heavy. Neji had no idea how to process the information. He's not carrying her, after all--]
Focus, Ixtab-sama.
[A gentle enough reminder, nothing more. It can't hurt, not if he's slowly lowering her hands, letting them go, stepping back, and--]

So she gazes at him a moment in a sort of quiet wonder; was this what other, normal shinki/god partnerships were like? But then he's moving away to leave her standing on her own and she panics a little. It doesn't show on her face beyond a widening of the eyes and an attempt to grasp at the retreating hands. The water beneath he already begins to give as he moves back, and though Yuri closes her eyes tightly and tries to concentrate on the water being solid, but-
Nope, down she goes. Being semi-prepared for it helps a little, but she's still choking a little when she resurfaces, wiping at her eyes and coughing violently to clear the water from her lungs.
Good job, go team. An attempt was made?]
no subject
[...no, you know, it's not worth it.
What the hell had he just said? Anyway--]
Are you alright?
no subject
Fine.
[Her voice is rough though, more embarrassed than anything. She pushes herself backwards until she reaches the shallower area to stand up, attempting to wring out her hair some.] I don't think this is an ability I have. I haven't heard of other gods who could do it either.
[So it's not just her okay let her live]
no subject
He steps over, reaching the pool's edge and walking into the temple's proper floor.] No, but you hardly if ever hear the new gods speak of how they can move now in ways the living can't.
[If she ever wades closer to the edge (she should??) he'll debate on offering his hand to help her up back into civilization. Just that, though. Debate.
Yuri's got a genuinely confused shinki on her hands.]
no subject
It might be an innate ability of yours'. Maybe something from-- Before. [You know, when you were alive and all.] You probably just didn't hit the requirements to activate it before, or something.
[But Yuri regards him carefully, concerned] Does it bother you?
