[Back from the Forest of Doom, which she'd wandered into with Sora, she's starting to both get more confident in what she can do as a shinki and more aware of the danger that the world around her poses. This hasn't diminished the light in her heart, but tempered it into a willingness to become the kind of person that neither Roxas nor Sora worries about if she wants to go wherever she pleases.]

[Semi-Open to everyone else, if you'd find her at Artemis' Temple just by chance]
[Kairi is mostly available to wave at anyone she doesn't know and chat up casually, just from walking around the grounds with the two ghost dogs. She'll be practicing Borderlines on her own as well as some very simple swordsmanship positions that Sora's shown her.]

[Kairi has become an avid texter and phone converser, so if you're someone she's had previous contact with, you can handwave a brief conversation that she initiated and concluded with directions to the temple to find her.]

[As soon as he's done with Sora, a still panicked Roxas goes to look for Kairi. When he finds her, there's an audible sigh of relief. He rushes over and grabs her by the shoulder to look her over.]

You're okay. You're okay... You're really okay.

[Of course she is. Wouldn't he have felt it when she wasn't?]

At the temple!

[Senri spends most of his time outside on the grounds of the temple. When he sees Kairi he makes a beeline straight for her. It's obviously that he has some very important business with her today.

Except of course he doesn't. No, he's excited because he's finished making her a little something. As usual, he says nothing as he steps up to her. Instead, he takes the small star shaped hair clip that he carved for her and gently clips it to her hair. Satisfied, he finally speaks.]

[Ah... she apparently owed Sora an apology. Turns out Roxas was worried after all. She has the decency to look sheepish about it, though, even as she reaches up with one hand to touch where he's got her shoulder.]

Roxas, you said it was okay to go off on my own... I didn't mean to worry you.

[She squeezes his hand a bit more.]

Why was this different?

I know... but Sora...

[It's with hesitancy that he lets go of her shoulders. He's still so worn out from panicking with Sora earlier, so this might not be as explosive as it should be.]

I didn't hear anything from you guys... and then Sora came home with wet hair and clothes, and the forest.... a forest. Magical forest.

[Oh. Obviously it's because of Sora, she thinks. She can't blame him for that and now she feels really, really bad.]

... It's because he's your boyfriend, right? You worry about him more. I'm sorry, Roxas.

[She looks down at the floor. The explosiveness might have made it clearer to start, but now she's focusing on the wrong parts of his fragmented sentences.]

[Is Kairi feeling jealous in some way, because why.]

Well, yeah... but I was worried about you, too. You'd let me know if you weren't coming here, right...?

[Deep breath.]

Please... don't ever go into the forest again. Promise me.

Oh, Senri, hi--

[And there he is, in her personal space again. She's glad he's so gentle because it's still awkward for her right now, but it's getting better. If it's Senri, he won't hurt her; she believes that. So if he gets that close, it's for a good reason.

Then she realizes he clipped something to her hair. She reaches up to touch it, noticing it's a star.]

Oh wow, it's beautiful.

[She can't see it but that doesn't matter. It's beautiful to her and she's going to wear it every day now, she decides.]

[Nope, not jealous. Just misunderstanding. She'd gotten the impression she was free to wander, and from his fractured explanation that her wandering wasn't the reason he was so upset now. That it was because Sora came back disheveled, that if she'd been wandering alone it wouldn't have been so bad, but she got Sora in a tight spot too.

Then he starts to clear that up a bit.]

Oh... But I thought... That I could go where I wanted...?

[Nope, still not clear.]

Yes, sir. I promise not to go into the forest and to let you know if I'm not coming straight back to the temple.

[She's getting grounded, right? This is a punishment she thinks, for stretching what freedom he'd given her.]

You can... but that place... you could have died in there, with or without Sora! Why don't you get that? You could have died! And... I don't know if you would come back, ever... you might go to a different god, or come back as a god, and just... I wouldn't know until you came back, if you even would come back!

[Sorry, Roxas is talking in circles. Slowly the panicking is coming back.]

I don't want someone important dying again!

[Well that explains things loud and clear. She hadn't felt like it was dangerous, though. She reaches out to hold his hand, near tears with how far off base she'd been when she told Sora it would be fine.]

Roxas!

[That's all she can say at first, overwhelmed by the fears he's giving voice to.]

I'm so sorry... I just... In the back of my mind, I knew where you were. I knew how to get back. Even in a dark forest that deep, I could feel which direction I needed to go to get home - to get back to where you were! That's why I wasn't afraid...

[But he was, and she knows that now.]

I felt for sure I'd come back... but that's not enough. I'm so sorry.

[That gets him to stop for a moment. He'd told Sora he'd been too distracted to feel either of them, and now he just feels awful. She hadn't been distracted...]

Kairi, I... Those kinds of forests... I lived by a forest like that. They're never safe. Never.

[He's more mad at himself now than anything. She doesn't know.]

I'm Artemis, goddess of places like that, but that place would be dangerous even for me. What if it was tricking you into thinking you knew where I was?

[She winces at his words, then again at 'Never.']

It might've been a trick, you're right.

[She doesn't want to say 'but', so instead she squeezes his hand tighter.]

I need to be more vigilant for something like that, and I wasn't. I just want you to know... I did lead us out of there by following you. This time. I promise not to pretend like that can always happen.

[He bites his lip, his fear a little abated. This time he'll be the one to initiate a hug.]

I don't know what I'd do if you died...

[Yes, you may be dead already, but dying again? You're too important, not just to him.]

[She's surprised naturally, but welcomes it and hugs him back tightly. She's not one to joke about already being dead, even if it would bring some levity. No, instead she has to try to reassure him just that little bit more.]

I don't want you to know either. I'll keep practicing to get stronger, but I'll stay in touch more too.

[Kairi backs off the hug just enough to smile faintly back at him.]

Best god a girl could hope for, you know. No wonder he fell for you.

[It's a compliment. Then she looks a bit rueful.]

Speaking of Sora, I owe him an apology too.

[It's the feeling of sudden revulsion to physical contact that makes him glad she lets go when she does. He had pushed Sora away earlier during his panic because he couldn't handle it. Roxas takes a deep and shaky breath as a blush crept onto his cheeks.]

N-No way. There's way better gods... and I'm glad he did.

[No, no gushing about how wonderful Sora is. Roxas looks away.]

He's on the couch with Wan.

[Well, at least he's less upset now than when he'd found her. Seems to be to her, anyway.]

Well, you're still great, and we agree about that much.

[She pats his hand and holds the same one with hers so that it's as close to hugging his hand - instead of his whole body - as she dare right now.]

[ Nanako is out exploring because Souji had said it was okay and everything here was strange and new. Each temple and shrine she came across was different and interesting and Nanako's been spending a lot of her time since arriving seeing and learning as much as she could.

Today is no exception, and a familiar figure she spots outside one of the structures she passes has her diverting her path to come in a little closer. She'll wait until she's noticed before lifting a hand in a wave and offering a happy smile. ]

Hello! Is this where you live?

[He blinks.]

... you and Sora agree on that? He's a way better god than me.

[He doesn't pull his hand back even though he wants to. Kairi wants to comfort him, so he'll let her.]

Right... I'm sorry for yelling. It's just... you're precious to me.

[ He easily waves back as he comes across Artemis’s temple while out on a convenience-store run. It’s always jarring to come across shinki your age or even younger around here; and even if he doesn’t outright show it, it does bug him a little. But hey, most of the people around here are pretty friendly! ]

Nice place you live in! [ It’s hard not to notice Artemis’s temple, if temple it is indeed, given how different it is from the ostentatious golden sun shrine his own god lives in. ]

[Kairi blushes at his words, glad that she knows Roxas already has Sora so she doesn't misinterpret what he means. She's his shinki, also his friend, but that's all.]

Roxas...

[She squeezes his hand again gently.]

Well, uhm, about Sora - I didn't say it was a competition. I think you're both great.

And... I accept your apology, but I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to worry my friends.

[Nor make him even more upset than Sora was.]

My friends are precious to me too, including you Roxas.

[.... he'd go for the blond you anyways, to be honest. Naminé is to him as Kairi is to Sora.]

I-I know. I just think he's a way better god. I didn't even want to use my shinki when I first got Raichi.

[That gets her a smile from him. Then he blinks.]

Riku! Did... you run into him?

[She's all smiles and sentiment until he abruptly changes the subject, so far as she knows.]

Hm? Well, yeah I did, but why are you asking about him?

[She's met him all of once and knows way more about his connection to Brandon than about Riku himself.]

Was he rude to you? Or weird?

[Because oh boy he doubts Riku will ever come to his temple due to that fight.]

[ Kairi leaves the area around the forest and lake to head up the path that runs back to the giant rustic manorhouse. ]

Yep, this is Artemis's temple! Super-outdoorsy, isn't it? A real fun camp-out kind of place.

[ And she gestures to a temple that's practically right on top of the manorhouse compared to how spread out all of the other temples are. ]

But I spend a lot of time at Baldr's temple too - he's got a whole beach around the other side!

[ Kairi looks up from playing with the ghost dogs to look at the stranger before confirming she doesn't actually know him. That won't stop her from waving and jogging up the path, but it means she doesn't have a name to call on the way over. ]
